This lineup surprises me :|

Neville, Scholes and Giggs once again. Hope it works.

Yeah, me too - The real suprise is O'Shea in for Patrice though. I'm glad Kiko's getting a chance though.

77 minutes still 0-0. I don't thing it will change.

EDIT: WTF. Berbatov straight at the keeper. Really pathetic. I've lost my patience over him.

Help?

We are so uninspiring. There is just no heart when Rooney is not there. This is exactly why its smarter to play half fit Rooney than fit Berbatov, the guy is like in the highest level of depression state. Players just don't have much interest in this anymore. Let's hope that we can finish 2nd at least and don't have to qualify for CL next season.

I think really pathetic sums United up as a whole. I didn't want to believe we're a one man team, but our form without Rooney would suggest so.

I think we'll be lucky to finish second, I feared this would happen - it reminds me of 03-4 when we eventually finished third. And I think we'll have to qualify for the Champions League as well next season.

With City and Chelsea set to splash cash, Liverpool to rebuild and Arsenal to tweak their squads this summer, United are facing a downward spiral unless we overhaul the squad.

Giggs was ineffectual, Scholes was invisible and Berbatov is suffering a distinct lack of confidence. United are playing like a side that needs a bit of flair, or magic.

Help?

We need creativity in the middle and an inspirational forward, not the one that sulks around complaining to everybody and every little touch. Rather than complaining about not getting a perfect ball, he should be working to get the team going. Spurs players warned United of this when Berbatov left, but I didn't think it would be that bad. As much as we all hate to admit it, United are a one-man team right now and we can only hope that Ferguson realizes that sooner rather than later.

Welcome to the end of season Man Utd party. Held early due to this team being sh*t without Wayne.

This for me looks worse because I watched Barcelona last night, and that's the level we need to be at and frankly we're so far short of that - it's almost laughable. Pace, power and potency - That's United's MO. Or at least it used to be.

I've been defending Dimitar, but even I'm starting to think he'd be better off elsewhere. Class though he is, he's not suited to United's way of playing.

Well..what can I say. If fergie thinks our team is good enough to compete again next season..just have to look at what happened the past 2 weeks. Threw away everythin we had. Need quality midfielder and striker.

There's a 0.5% of hope left in me still though for this season.

So its a Carling cup year this time after 3 years of glory. We can't always win titles can we? I can't see Chelsea losing any more points, so for me, the title is almost Chelsea's now. I don't mind us not winning anything this season, this happens once in a while. I have faith in Fergie and I hope he invests on rebuilding the team as he has done numerous times during his 24 years in charge. I'm sure he will. What we need to do is sell Berbatov, replace him with a younger faster striker (Dzeko or Suarez), buy a creative midfielder (Gourcuff would be a dream). Thats all we need for now IMO.

Considering that he played Rooney against Bayern and has already bought a (young) striker, I think Fergie knows what he has to do. In the striker department, at least, I think he has more faith in Anderson and Carrick than is required to start fishing for a high-end replacement, especially when he's still got the experience of Scholes and Giggs and Gibson doesn't look too shabby. And make no mistake, if he's gonna bring in a midfielder, only high-end will do. There's no point in bringing in a young gun, or someone who still needs to prove himself right now.

If I were Fergie I'd look into getting Modric off Spurs, or (and I know this will sound ridiculous but) Benayoun from Liverpool. Not sure he (or Luka, actually) would be keen on a move, but he's experienced and not that old, and he's a good playmaker. Not exactly top stuff, any of them, but if you're strapped for cash, the rivlary with Pool could be offset by their financial woes, and he'd be cheaper than Modric, or any wordclass playmaker.

Cheers for the result today, btw.

Even that's gone for me. I know we've been spoiled for the past 20 or so years, but we need to overhaul the team in the summer, I just hope we have the money to get the players we need.

Owen Hargreaves being fit will be a boost, a defensive midfielder screening the back four. I think we need a Right Back, an Attacking Midfielder in the mould of a Gerrard or old school Scholes and TWO strikers. Hernandez won't be ready to rely upon to carry the load and Berbatov as I've said before doesn't suit United. I would like to see Karim Benzema, as I think the English game would suit him, and the young lad Suarez at Ajax, Dutch strikers seem to do well over here.

Also I think the hunger and the drive has gone.

We were like that against Bayern... And I was truly impressed. I think the team works way better with Fletcher rather than Giggs or Scholes in the middle. He's such a workhorse and brings a lot of dynamism in the centre. Thats what we lacked today. If we could flay Fletcher and a creative attacking midfielder in the center, that would be perfect. Our season is officially over to me... unless a miracle. Can't wait for next season.

Update: Watching the post mortem on MUTV: First thing Fergie said "it was the pitch"

No wonder people hate us because of him, I know he doesn't like critiscising his players - but when they play as badly as we have recently I'd rather he'd lay into them occasionally.

No, he's brilliant IMO. But he doesn't fit United. As simple as that. The same way that Veron didn't fit United.

not the style is the problem but the mentality . He can't perform for clubs at such a high level as United.

MikeyM;2851092 said:
I don't think that's constructive. Berbatov is a fantastic player but he doesn't suit the way United play.

he's a good player but I'd not say fantastic because he's too dependent by his form, fantastic players play well everytime.

That was a good move IMO but he is a developing player and won't have an instant impact. He's 21 something so I'd expect that it'd take a few years before we get the most of him. He's also playing in a foreign league and language barrier will be an issue at first. I'd love it if we got a young but experienced striker (Dzeko, Suarez) and sell Berbatov.

Yes, agreed. We have enough of potential players in Anderson and Gibson. We need a proven player who'll have an instant impact. Not someone who will make an impact in 3-4 years.

I'm not a fan of Benayoun because he can't last the full 90 minutes. He's a great sub though but not worth investing in him + he plays for Liverpool lol. Luka Modric would be excellent. We need a player like him. But I'm sure Tottenham would be asking a ****load amount of money for him just like they did for Berbatov (30 millions when he was worth 14 at most) and Carrick (20 millions when he was worth 10 maybe).

Benzema? NO please :( I wanted us to buy him last season but seeing his performances for Real Madrid, I think he's hugely overrated. And btw, his goalscoring rate is similar to Berbatov. 7 goals in 21 games or something like that. I don't think he'll be the answer to our problems. But he's 21 as well so he might become good. I've got mixed feelings about him. Paying 30+ millions for him would be a huge gamble.

Since our season is almost over, the only thing I would cheer now is seeing Liverpool get out of the Europa cup. lol

Good man! Could not have said it any better myself. In no way is Berbatov fantastic right now or has ever been for Manchester United!! He needs to go to a slower league to be fantastic. He would do well over there, clubs like Fiorentina,Milan,Valencia and Roma come to mind.

I have a feeling that Ferguson will stick to him. He said last week I think that he has faith in him. Anyway, which team will want to buy Berbatov? Can't see any TBH. I have a feeling he'll be stuck with us for a long time.

EDIT: Help said the same thing lol

If we manage to sell him, how much can we get out of him? He's 29. I don't think we'll get more than 10 millions with him. What a waste of money. 30 millions wasted and his wages are very high (90 000 pounds a week)
