lol because he's madrid boss and Marca sneak. I don't imagine him running over Giggs, Neville or Scholes.

Van Der Vaart's got talent but I'd rather we get Gourcuff or Modric :$ Main reason is the age issue. Gourcuff and Modric are 23-24 whereas VDV is 27. I wouldn't mind VDV though. I'm sure we can get him for cheap since he's not a key player at Madrid.

We should have gone for Sneijder as part of the Ronaldo deal, I can't believe we didn't at least try.

Gourcuff I don't know a lot about, so I can't comment. Modric would be good for us though, and so would Ashley Young (of course he's an out and out winger though)

City are offloading Ireland in the summer apparently, I've heard Sir Alex is an admirer of his play too. Would he come across though? And is he good enough?

I think if we do get Raul, he'll play a temporary role similar to Henrik Larsson during his short spell at United.

Marca is reporting that United are looking at Lassana Diarra for the summer (because he really set the Premiership on fire at Arsenal and Portsmouth before, didn't he?) With a fully fit Hargreaves next season, do United really need a defensive midfielder?
SkySports are saying we're after Mahamadou Diarra too. Don't know enough about him to compare. Lassana isn't bad, but not sure if we really need him - as long as Hargreaves comes back as good as ever.

I think Ronaldo's going to be the type of player that keeps moving on because he feels the grass is greener elsewhere. It certainly makes a mockery of his "lifelong dream" to play for Real.
It occurs to me that it could be a matter of reality not living up to the hype. Like that really hot girl you try to date for months only to actually succeed and find out isn't compatible with you at all, I think it's possible that Ronaldo got to Madrid and realized that it was just another football club - albeit one where half the egos in the locker room were as big as his, the fans turned on him faster than Usain Bolt sets world records, and the team hasn't been winning silverware as prolifically as he's become accustomed to.

Edit: It's also interesting to note, I read some article (don't remember where) that suggested that the reason Madrid appear to be targeting several members of the United squad are because Ronaldo's been asking the head office to try an sign them. I think it's a pretty powerful subtext that goes along with that - if that's true, he was clearly happier with his teammates, and thus his time, in Manchester.

Bad news. the Pool Vs Athletico gams is going to extra time... Thats at Anfield. They will be dead after 120 minutes of football. I can't see them earning any points against Chelsea... If they manage to reach the europa final, I'd expect them to fully focus on that and not bother about the EPL.

EDIT: Forlan just scored again! (H)

Dieeeeego, woooooah, Dieeeeego woooooaaaah He came from Uruguay, he made the scousers cry!

(H)

4 games 4 goals Vs Liverpool for United and Athletic combined.

EDIT 2: Liverpool are out. What a failure of a season for them...

Crap, as if having a Thursday game wasn't bad enough to get Liverpool tired. Surely, they are ****ed for Sunday now.

They have no excuse to play poorly this weekend just because they had a game today. They have 2 full days to recover...that should be more than enough for professional athletes that are paid vast sums of money to keep themselves in peak physical condition.

In other news...Chelsea are reportedly signing Aguero for only 40 million. That seems like a hell of a bargain considering he is basically the most promising young striker in the world.

He's the same style as Rooney but Rooney is better than him. I don't know if he'd work with Rooney. They'd tend to get in each other's way like Gerrard and Lampard for England. I'd prefer someone like Dzeko who plays a different style.

I don't think the body really cares about whether you are getting paid 100 pounds a week or 100k pounds a week. When its tired comparably relative to the other team, its tired.

Strikers with the same style can coexist together. Look at Torres and Villa for Spain, they are very similar players and when they play together for Spain they are nearly unstoppable and are probably the best striking partnership I've ever seen.

Speaking of which, according to ESPN Barca have reached a verbal agreement with Villa, 40 million Euro (approx. 35 million pounds) transfer plus a player or two...Valencia want Hleb and Bojan. I knew it was a pipedream of us ever signing Villa, but it's still disappointing.

Villa and Torres are completely diferent. And they didn't fit at all together in the NT, especially el niño.

Exactly. Their success was independent of each other's, they didn't bring anything good out of the other in the times I've seen them play.

Not to mention that other than being excellent, Spanish, and strikers, they're not similar.

I wonder what are the chances of getting Carlos Queiroz back after he's had his fun with the national team. He was good at finding Gems.

The very fact that they are both world-class strikers makes them compliment each other when they're both on the field. It's a situation where you may stop one of them, but you're probably not going to stop both of them.

As per wiki...

Torres 17 goals in 46 competitive matches for Spain
Villa 24 goals in 36 competitive matches for Spain

And obviously a lot of those goals came when both of them were on the field at the same time.

Since their striking partnership has produced quite a bit of goals for country, I'd say they're doing okay together...

Berbatov and Rooney are excellent players, so they should be an excellent partnership, right?

1. Berbatov is not in the same class as Rooney, Villa and Torres. Not even close.

2. How often do you see Berbs and Rooney playing alongside each other? In case you haven't noticed, SAF has completely abandoned the concept of a 4-4-2.

When we did use a 4-4-2 though, with either Rooney and Berbs or Rooney and Tevez, we won the league and CL.
