The Berbs Rooney partnership has been the main debate here this year, in case you haven't noticed.

The debate hasn't been about their partnership, it has been about Berbs being crap.

Have you watched any United games this term? We have used a 4-3-3 that is really more like a 4-3-2-1, Rooney the lone high striker and usually Nani and Valencia playing as forward wingers.

Rooney and Berbs never play together as a striking duo like in a traditional 4-4-2.

I have, and you've stopped using the 442 that Fergie likes because Berbs and Rooney didn't compliment each other, and nor do Torres and Villa. They don't hinder each other, but they don't play off one another either.

1. Berbatov is not in the same class as Rooney, Villa and Torres. Not even close.

Currently, no. During his Tottenham and Leverkusen days, absolutely! He used to scare the sh*t out of me when he used to play against us. It's just that he didn't fit in our system as expected. As a result, his confidence plummeted and his form dropped.
I think if we sell him, he'll produce top class performances for the next team just like Forlan with Atletico Madrid.

Berbatov was actually doing quite well as a supporting attacking midfielder to Rooney when they played together this season. He would always be the guy to get the ball in the middle and put some nice through ball for Valencia or Nani to run on to and cross for Rooney.

Oh man, the York & Cole days were truly something. Not to mention we also had Teddy and Ole on the bench.

I could only wish we had 4 strikers of that quality today.

those were the day... cole and yorke were second to none. We can dream of such a strike partnership.

Those two were telepathic. If we'd have had a striker pool like 99 this year, we'd have been Champions at Christmas. We've been creating chances, but we've been far too wasteful (aside from Wayne)

The 1999 Man Utd team is one of those special, rare sides that only come along once or twice in a fan's lifetime. Five world class players coming from the youth ranks together, the world's greatest goalkeeper and telepathic strikers - it'll never happen again.

This weekend is not starting out too well. Both Spurs and City won and Everton can't finish ahead of Liverpool either now.

Liverpool is still mathematically in 4th place picture, I hope they play well tomorrow and grab something out of that match.

But Sunderland match is tough as well, we drew them at home this season.

tomorrow is the most important day of this season for both us and Chelsea. I hope we become champions at the end.

C'mon Red Devils, we believe on you.
C'mon Liverpool:).

Chelsea goal: Is that, ladies and gentlemen, the title race done and dusted? If so, it's sealed by Chelsea with a lovely move that ends with Nicolas Anelka - onside - crossing for Frank Lampard to slide home from close range. That's the midfielder's 21st league goal this season, but few will be as crucial as that I tell you.

2-0 Chelsea.

And that's the end of that.

I know we feel hard done by in the games against Chelsea, and that we could easily blame them for the failure of this season. However I think we need to look at ourselves and put our hands up and say that we simply were not good enough this season. We could say injuries have taken their toll too - but to do so would overlook the glaring mistakes we have made this season.

1: Failure to replace Ronaldo, and Tevez
2: Over reliance on Wayne Rooney.
3: Lack of focus on the "smaller" games.

It is imperative these issueas are addressed in the summer. There are players in this team who are not of the quality Manchester United requires (some may grow to be, like Gibson or Evans, Obertan etc) But we need an injection of quality in the midfield (Carrick's been like a little boy lost at times) and a spark (which aside from Rooney, we haven't got)

Berbatov has the talent, but he's weighing himself down with doubt.

Anyway, I like most United fans are probably feeling down, but here's a couple of things to cheer you all up for next season (hopefully to be joined by a couple of quality additions)

1: Owen Hargreaves will be fully fit and will be the anchoring midfielder we've sorely lacked.

2: Anderson will be back, and will add creativity to the midfield.

3: The Red Knights will launch a bid for the club.

4: Unlike City and Liverpool, we'll be in the Champions League.

5: We are, and will forever be... Manchester United.

So let's end this season with a bang, and show the world United will rise again ... Like the Champions we have been.

Damn, need to wait another 4 years now to clinch that record-breaking 4th successive league title.

I think it will be a long, long time before anyone goes four in a row, let alone United.

Seems to be a cycle with us, we win it three times, lose and then win the Double the following season (or the Treble) I'd be happy with that!!

I wonder if with the pressure off, United might relax agaist Sunderland and play our natural game.

Excellent post. I'd add another line to that:

6. Nani has proven his worth towards the end of the season... Next season could be his season. I can see it coming TBH...

Berbatov's state of form is starting to depress me,I feel so sorry for the man. Please score and relax yourself.

I don't think that it's because of lack of form that he hasn't managed to perform. In that case, he has been in bad form the entire season. I think that he simply can't show off his proper skills in the Premier League. He's more suited for a top club at a low-quality league like Rangers. Too bad that United hasn't managed this season, they're my favorite English team.

Here's what I think that United should change on during the transfer season: Main thing should be to replace Berbatov with a better attacker that can score more goals and lead play better. United has a overrated center midfield, they should improve there with players that can work both defensively and offensively. Maybe snatch Akinfeev? United could use a very good goalkeeper. I'm not saying that van der Sar is bad but he's way old and they'll probably need a good replacement for him soon enough.

how many blunders will Berbatov miss for us. 1 or 2 blunders are ok, but thats way too much. I don't know whether its luck or not... either way, very frustrating.

He showed some good form in October, becoming the United best player of the month. Sometimes he has some moments, but he's very inconsistent.

Overrated central midfield? Really? I have never seen anyone saying our centre midfield is great or whatsoever. Our centre midfield is underrated, but not good enough. We have enough deep lying mifielders (Fletcher, Carrick, Gibson, Hargreaves). We badly need a goalscoring attacking Midfielder. A replacement for Scholes.

EDIT

Tosic scored again! 5 goals in 12 games now. Impressive. That's in the Bundesliga 1 as well.
