I worry about Harry's future: Liverpool first game, unable to replace Berbatov properly, is unable to attract Robben and the Ruud awakening to Spurs. At least you guys had a Ronaldo to replace, he only has a "Bentley".

Berbs is a very skilled player, don't get me wrong...he is great at holding onto the ball and keeping possession...but I don't think his style is suited to being a striker, he is just not explosive enough.

It just irks me that David Villa, one of the best strikers in the world, is within our grasp and we are probably going to pass on him because he is 27.

Think about it this way- in losing Ronaldo and Tevez, we are losing 41 goals combined from last season...who is going to replace those goals?

Is this "no players over 25" or whatever policy actually fact? It seems a bit silly to me especially when we need to find some sort of replacement for Ronaldo.

As far as Berbatov's style not being suited to being a striker, I disagree. He practically didn't play as a striker for us last season. Hopefully now since Ronaldo has left he'll get a more forward role where he can get his chances to score. He had a ratio of 1 goal every 2 games before he came here, hopefully he can return to that this coming season.

And don't worry, someone will replace the goals, we're obviously going to make a couple of big signings.

According to wiki, David Villa was born in December '81, which makes him 27, not 28.

And I don't care how old he is, he is in the form of his life right now, he scored 28 goals in La Liga this past season and has been playing extremely well and scoring goals for Spain lately. We would be insane to not want a player of his caliber in our team.

This is all moot anyway because Villa wants to play for Madrid, and I think it's only a matter of time before they get a deal done.

27-28 same thing. By winter he'll be the latter n 50-60M for him is much too much. Valencia are looking to pay off debts with 2 sales??!! Those players arent worth together 100M, what are they thinkin, I say leave Villa and Silva. Sign someone younger!!

They apparently don't want to leave spain anyway.

ESPN have just published an article saying that Valencia have decided that Villa is not for sale anymore. Interesting.

Help?

Fan Favourite
I think it was coming, he decided to leave long time ago and just wanted to get the fans and media on his side to make himself look like a hurt hero.

I think we have quite a lot of depth in the team right now... But we still need a few players to fill the void left by Ronaldo and Tevez. Maybe we should go for a striker like Benzema or Huntelaar but I fear that this could cause similar problems as when Tevez was with us. With 3 top strikers in the team, one is bound to stay on the bench.

Other than that, I'd like to see a young winger like Douglas Costa or Alexis Sanchez at Old Trafford. We've been linked to both of them and they seem to have a lot of potential from the videos. Even Valencia would do though.

With 2 signings (one striker and one winger) we should be fine IMO. We're covered in all the other positions. Also, I'm sure that we'll see more of the youngsters this coming season. We've got Welbeck, Gibson (If he's staying), Macheda, Rafael, Fabio, Possebon who showed us what they're capable of in the Carling cup. I hope Anderson and Nani step up as well. They've showed what they can do in their first season and I heard Tosic impressed in Serbia U21 games.

Even with Tevez and Ronaldo gone, I'm still optimistic for this season. We still have the potential of reaching the CL final again.

I could not disagree more. I think we are in dire need of defenders.

As I see it we have three solid defenders- Rio, Vidic and Evra. The rest are just so-so...and you KNOW that we are going to have at least two defenders miss time next season due to injury, it is inevitable. I literally cannot remember a season in which we did not have a key defender miss time. Also, if everything stands as is, the only thing that will have changed about our defense next season is that everyone will have gotten a year older...and while that isn't necessarily always a bad thing, it's definitely not a good thing either.

If I were the one running the show at United, I would have done the following:

1. Demand that Madrid include Sergio Ramos in the Ronaldo deal
2. Buy Maicon from Inter
3. Sell Berbs
4. Buy Aaron Lennon from Tottenham
5. Buy a striker (I would want Villa, but realistically, Aguero or Benzema)

Then set things up like this:

............................VDS................................
..................................................................
Sergio Ramos......Vidic......Ferdinand........Maicon
..................................................................
..........................Hargreves...........................
Lennon...................................................Nani
..........................Anderson............................
..................................................................
......................................Rooney...................
.........................Aguero................................

I think we would dominate with that squad. For starters, it would be the best defense in the world. Secondly, we would have two attacking-minded wide defenders in Ramos and Maicon who both love to go forward and can both send fantastic crosses in when necessary, or help move the game forward to Lennon and Nani, who are both capable of being fantastic wingers. You'd have Hargreves holding the midfield, who is a great defensive midfielder, and Anderson, who is a hard worker, to push the ball up to Rooney, who I want to see become more of a pure striker again...and then of course Aguero, who is a young, fantastic striker as it is.

And you'd still have guys like Evra, Carrick, Park, O'Shea, Giggs, Scholes, etc coming off the bench. It would be a better overall squad than we've had these past few years.

What do you guys think? Could it be done financially? I think it could...

After the madrid bids, aguero alone would cost you 50m+...
Aguero + Sergio Ramos + Lennon + Maicon = Too Much For Your Budget

Fine, I have a new idea then.

I would have done a player swap in the Ronaldo deal. Robben, Sneijder and Sergio Ramos for Ronaldo. Still sell Berbs, and sell Nani back to Sporting. Take the money from those two sales, plus the amount we offered up for Tevez, and buy Maicon and Lennon. Then buy Benzema with the cash we were going to be allocated all along. Then it would look like this:

............................VDS................... .............
.................................................. ................
Sergio Ramos......Vidic......Ferdinand........Maicon
.................................................. ................
..........................Hargreves............... ............
Lennon................................................Robben
..........................Sneijder................ ............
.................................................. ................
......................................Rooney...... .............
.........................Benzema................... ..........

Still a badass lineup...maybe even moreso now, because Robben and Sneijder would be better than Nani and Anderson.

What are you smoking? May I have some?

I'm just gonna comment on one aspect of that moronic idea, I'll let others do the rest. You want to have a starting line-up next year with 6 new players, who you expect to start performing immediately. This despite ManU winning the league, the LC (I think) and being the CL's runner-ups.

Oh, and Maicon plays on the right. That's why Madrid is interested, so they can move Ramos to the middle.

we wouldn't finish higher than 5th with cfdemarco's ideas... And as far as Berbatov, I understand your frustration but I'm convinced he'll do a lot better next season as long as he's allowed to play further up like he did at Spurs.
