that was painful to watch. We lack that cutting edge when teams park the bus. Blew the opportunity to go level on points with chelsea. Rooney again makes poor decisions. He was playing well for the 1st 15 mins and totally became frustrating to watch after that. Villa defended for their lives though and we couldnt break them down. So props to villa.

Its alright, three points behind is still better than five. I just wish that our players were getting motivated by rivals dropping points, rather than more relaxed.

Awful performance, especially the first half. Villa attacked our weaknesses and it worked. Evra, Rooney and Valencia were the only ones whom were fighting to get something out of the game.... it is a pity that we didn't capitulate on Chelsea's draw, but no worries, it is a long season and Chelsea hasn't been playing well lately, there will be more chances for us to catch up on them.....

It always does right after the game, the fact that we could have went level with Chelsea on points doesn't help. But the season is long, there will be plenty of chances to catch up. Chelsea been struggling lately for a reason and that reason is Essien, who isn't coming back till mid-January.

The gap is from 2 to 3. Could've been worse. We couldn't take advantage of this opportunity but at least we are still close to Chelsea. I have faith in Fergie. He can turn everything around as he has proved numerous times before. He has gone on winning the league after being 10 points behind during this time of the season... Ferguson's experience might pay off.

Ah but in the past he has had the players to do it matey. I wouldn't put too much faith in the past when it comes down to the here and now.

Compared to past United squads, this lot are nowhere near the quality that Fergie has had in times gone by.

Then again winning the League is about what other teams do as much as what your own team does.

You have never had to be the best team in the country to win it. As long as you end up with more points than the team in second place then it's yours.

All past winners have needed the opposition to drop points along the way and as you saw today, we are all capable of dropping points. Even United.

I agree that we do not have the same quality in the team as last season following the departure of Ronaldo. But its still a team which has won the league for the past 3 seasons. The only difference is 1 or 2 players.

And also, as you said "You have never had to be the best team in the country to win it". So I believe we still have a good chance this time as well. We have been performing consistently so far and so has Chelsea. Lets see what happens next. And I think you guys might find it difficult without Essien and Drogba in January. These guys are key players in your team. Is Ancelotti not loaning anyone?

Those 1 or 2 players ARE the difference mate. Ronaldo was a HUGE part of United's success for 3 years, and with him and Tevez gone, that leaves a massive hole that has not as yet been filled. That is the difference this year, but as you say anything can happen so we'll have to wait and see won't we?

I know I'll miss Drog but I don't think the team will over that short period. Carlo says he isn't buying anyone and we are not loaning anyone. If anything we'll bring back our own loan players, but I don't think that will be neccersary.

I agree, but football is not a one-man team man. If we did won titles, credit has to go to the team as a whole, not just one player.

True Ronaldo played a HUGE part in our previous seasons... His departure had a massive impact on our game. But however, some players have managed to make up for the goals so far. The goals have been distributed amongst players rather than a single player getting all the goals. We've seen Rooney stepping up and scoring more goals than he usually does for instance, and goals coming from the likes of Gibson and Valencia, Fletcher etc.

Overall we've been doing quite well I think. We just need to keep it up and be consistent.

Yes you have been doing remarkably well considering the difficulties, and THAT was actually the point I wanted to make to Mikey. I did not mean for anyone to get upset or mad at what I said. I was actually telling him the reasons that I thought were relevant.

I had no intention of dissing the club either, only to point out that inexperienced players in such numbers would never have been given the chance at United in the past, so there must be a good reason for Fergie doing that, and it's certainly not because he believes in them. It's because he has little choice. I said that too.

Lets chill huh, because I think we all took each others posts in the way that they were NOT intended. Peace (Y)

To be fair, the only young players being used in the EPL this season are: Welbeck (2 games), Gibson (3 games) and Obertan (3 games) of which most are substitute appearance... Macheda, De Laet have all played 0 games. I don't think Ferguson is using them because he has no choice.

Maybe you're talking about the league cup and champions league then? They've been given a run in these 2 competitions for obvious reasons. We had qualified in the CL already and Ferguson doesn't really care about the League cup.

Regarding your last line, thumbs up. Lets just chill and let the football make all the talking (Y) Peace dude.

Sorry but the Everton game was the first game without Essien and I would say that we have been struggling and conceding goals(albeit in unfortunate circumstances) since the victory at Arsenal.

But yes, Essien will be missed, but our problems comes from our failure of dealing with set-pieces. And I thought we coped well without Essien against Everton, in attack that is.

Btw, just noticed Berba had a new haircut. :p

Pathetic, abject, awful. And I've had it with Fergie blaming referees - this was squarely his fault. 4-5-1 does not, and will never work as well as 4-4-2.

I thought today could be a big blow in the title race - it was, Chelsea must believe their name is on this title. And I'm starting to lose faith in the team, and most of all Sir Alex.

I'm sick to death of him ranting and raving about injury time and I'm also sick to death of United being over bloody complacent and not working their a$$es off.

Pi$$ed off does not even begin to describe it.

Grow the hell up dude. We're not even done half the season. Yeah I think Sir Alex ****ed this one up but we're all human, mistakes happen. You sound like a Liverpool fan. Hell I don't even think they're as pissed off as you are.

Fair enough, I'm just a bit jaded with the media rabbiting on about Ronaldo every time United play. We don't have Cantona or George Best either - but you don't hear them mentioned. I actually scared Liz by yelling at the TV yesterday. So probably I took your point in the wrong context.

To be fair, the younger guys have done well such as Welbeck and Gibson and probably should be knocking on the door of the first team, but I do agree injuries have ravaged the squad and yes I do think we need a replacement for twinkle toes (or to give Nani a swift boot up the a$$) I think Obertan may be the long term successor. Valencia is a different type of winger, he tracks back and defends too - which has it's own advantages.

The 4-5-1 left Rooney isolated, and try as he might - he can't win the game on his own every time.

You may notice I'm a little calmer today, it takes a day or so to calm down!

2-0 up but could've been more. Rooney's finishing really needs to improve. He had 2 or 3 clear opportunities.

Otherwise we are playing quite well even though we still have 7 defenders out. I prefer De Laet on the right since he's a natural right back unlike Fletcher. Besides, Fletcher can return to his central midfield position as well while De Laet is playing right back.

Team today:

------------Kuszczak

De Laet - Carrick - Vidic - Evra

Valencia - Gibson - Scholes - Obertan

---------Rooney - Berbatov

3-0 Valencia's 6th goals in 23 games. 1 goal every 4 games. Not bad at all. Nice control and pass by Berbatov.

EDIT: final score 3-0. Not a convincing win though. I was disappointed with some players. Welbeck, Berbatov and Rooney have all been frustrating. Rooney got many clear cut opportunities but blew them all. Welbeck tried to go for goal when there were clearly players in better positions than him. And Berbatov didn't have a great game as well. But oh well we did the job: Sealed the 3 points and scored 3. Good result in the end.

I missed it, but I'm glad we won. I'll get the full 90 on MUTV at midnight though. I understand Wolves rested a load of players - that was silly and they were probably lucky to escape with shipping only 3.

Still, over to Chelsea tomorrow - should be a straight forward game for them though.

By the way the defensive crisis continues. Thats what Ferguson said after the match:

"Wes has a hamstring strain and it's going to keep him out for a couple of weeks," Sir Alex confirmed on MUTV.

"Vidic suffered a calf strain tonight and that's a worrry for us ahead of Saturday. We just have to get on with it.

"Young De Laet has shown some promise and he did very well when he moved to centre-back. He is a natural centre-half and he'll probably be there on Saturday."

Thats becoming worrying. But surprisingly we won all games in which we played with a makeshift defence with a relatively large margin. 4-0, 3-1 and today 3-0. When we had almost a full back four against Aston Villa (Fletcher - Brown - Vidic - Evra), we lost 1-0. Weird.
