He was the best player as South Korea went to the World Cup Semis.
he definitely impressed, along with Lee Eul Yong, Chong Song Guk, Seol Ki Hyeon, Lee Chun Soo, Hong Myung Bo, and Ahn Jung-Hwan ... being several years younger than the others who impressed, he had enough time to cash in on his breakthrough performance the most ... however, it must be noted that, in the knockout stages, Korea's best assets were Byron Moreno and Gamal Al-Ghandour ...

He was an integral part of the PSV team that went to the CL Semis.
you underestimate Hiddink's role ... Park was very good that season, Cocu was crucial, and Van Bommel's performances in Europe earned him his Barcelona move that year ... DeMarcus Beasley did his bit too for PSV in the Champions League ...

SAF seems to start him in situations where you wouldn't merely rest your first XI; many of Park's starts are in games against the top 4 and in Europe.
but somehow the 2008 Champions League final wasn't one of those occasions (not even the bench) ...

He'll get Carling Cup games or Wolves games to stay fresh through out the season, but he plays a lot of games that you wouldn't just insert a guy to give a better player a rest.
sure, he brings a LOT more quality to the table than a John O'Shea-type versatile player, and you can assign him specific attacking or defensive roles (as previously discussed) ... he's not going to be your go-to guy if you need to start or bring on someone to produce something from nothing, but he adds his own quality to the side, within the limitations of his specific duties on each occasion ...
what I'm trying to say is: when one talks about the most valuable players, one talks about players who coaches build their entire team around ... when one talks about most valuable squad players, Park is in contention ...
