I dont think Boro would let go of Downing, all though he would be an awesome player to sign right now, since he is going to play for England in the next coming years if he keeps up his form :)

I hope if Downing does move that he please please please goes to United

United should buy van der Vaart. He will want to leave Ajax soon, and he would play well with Ruud.

Chelsea have Robben, Arsenal have van Persie, so United shoud get van der Vaart :p

Van der Vaart wants to go to Spain (Barcelona),

Maniche just had his 27th birthday and he's an all round midfielder not a defensive midfielder. Not the best option for a team that plays 4x4x2. He's great doing the linkup between the purely defensive midfielder and the playmaker, among other things.

United do need to strengthen in many positions but possibly not in January, but in the coming summer.

Most of the players mentioned will be cup-tied in Europe and I think for that, Ferguson will not buy them or spend big money - not that big money is available anyway.

Keane needs a long term replacement. Nicky Butt was going to be that but he was no spring chicken himself. Djemba-Djemba is plain crap and Darren Fletcher doesn't do quite the same job (although he can be a holding player).

United also need another winger, preferably one who can play both wings. He needs to be young and enthusiastic, willing to learn. He could well become the long term replacement for Giggs in a couple of years' time.

A long term replacement is also needed for Paul Scholes. A goal-scoring midfielder who gets forward all the time to augment the strikeforce. That is not a priority, but nonetheless important. Fletcher and Kleberson can fill his boots in the Carling Cup matches, but neither are long term solutions, in my opinion.

Defence-wise, I think United are well-covered. I think perhaps United shouldn't look at their goalkeeping either. Schwarzer and van der Sar are names that have been mentioned and I don't see either of them being head and shoulders above what United have got already in their disposal.

Gill back Giggs to stay

Manchester United chief executive David Gill has predicted Ryan Giggs will see out the remainder of his career at Old Trafford, even though the Welshman's contract dispute still rumbles on.

Gill is refusing to break club policy by offering Giggs, who recently passed 600 games for the Old Trafford outfit, the two-year contract he has asked for, insisting he will only give the winger a one-season extension to his current deal, which expires in 18 months' time.

The impasse has raised inevitable suggestions that Giggs will terminate his 13-year association with United at some stage before the start of next season, even though the 31-year-old player - and his agent - have insisted he is going nowhere.

And, though Gill confirmed there will have to be player sales if Sir Alex Ferguson wants to bring in new faces during either of the next two transfer windows, he does not believe Giggs will be among the potential departures.

"I am very confident Ryan will stay with Manchester United for the remainder of his career," Gill told MUTV.

"We know Ryan wants two years and we have only offered him one, which is what we feel is appropriate for a player in their 30s and it is what we have done in the past.

"But I am sure both parties can sort something out because Ryan doesn't want to leave and we don't want him to leave."

Gill also revealed goalkeeper Roy Carroll has yet to sign the new three-year deal he has been offered to extend his stay at United.

"We have offered Roy an improved contract, commencing this season and going on for a further three years," said Gill.

"He has rejected it, although hopefully we can work something out there as well."

Carroll is being too greedy, 3-year deal still not enough. :kader:

You miss 3 days at SG and you will miss everything. Just got back and bought my United magazine. Sad to say, KL sucked because all the Manchester United stores closed down. :f***: Missed the match also and I'm gonna watch the highlights.

Not condoning Rooney's reaction, but that ben haim guy fell as if he been shot. :nape:

The Bolton cheat definitely dives after saying something to Wayne. He was playing for Wayne to get red carded - no doubt. :kader:

It is, unfortunately, typical of today's football culture for a player to go down whenever there's any sort of physical confrontation off the ball.

It wasn't a heavy-handed, violent shove that Rooney gave him, and there's certainly no need for him to go down like a sack of sh!t.

However, the FA will see this as Rooney having raised his arm (and rightly so) and will give him a 3-match ban.

I remember Edu did the same thing at Anelka against Citeh last season at Highbury but still got away with it.
Edu got a yellow card for that i think, which prevents the FA from reviewing anything. Yellow card can't be changed.

The only reason why Rooney wasn't sent off is because the refs didn't see it, it's right behind the referee's back. But that guy fell really badly. I mean i know Rooney is strong, but he is no superman (although he could be). You can see Bolton player's leg tripping his own leg to fall and get Rooney sent off. And you people think Wayne will get 3 game suspension? I think it will be 150k pounds fine and 5+ games suspened. Don't forget this is Manchester United and the FA are very strongly influenced by a certain man from Arsenal.

It's an obvious red on Rooney's part. Even though that Bolton guy overdramatized getting hit, I must say he did a pretty good job in faking it. :p
