Valencia full back Fabio Aurelio is reportedly a transfer target for Manchester United.

The under-fire Red Devils are aiming to bounce back from a troubled week and have been linked with a move for the Brazilian defender.

With Gabriel Heinze out for the season due to injury, United have struggled to replace the Argentinian's tenacity at left back.

Neither John O'Shea nor Kieran Richardson have convinced in the role, while Mikael Silvestre played in the position against Lille in midweek.

That has prompted suggestions Sir Alex Ferguson will look to make up for this discrepancy when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

Aurelio is out of contract at Valencia at the end of the season and the Che are keen to retain the 26-year-old.

But Aurelio claims he also has an offer from United and is tempted by the prospect of heading to Old Trafford.

"My agent is taking the offer very seriously," Aurelio is quoted in the Daily Mirror.

"United are a great club and any player would want to join them."

The defender's availability for nothing at the end of the season could allow United to negotiate a cut-price deal with Valencia in January, if Ferguson follows through with his interest.

I do know that he is class at set-pieces. I reckon he is gonna be another Saha. First half-a-season wonder, a next season flop. Nothing can replace Gaby!!!

Bardsley signs up till 2009

Phil Bardsley has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2009.

The 20-year-old right-back has grasped his chance in the first-team this season, making eight appearances for the Reds.

Salford-born Bardsley told ManUtd.com: "I'm really pleased to extend my contract with United.

"It's been great having the opportunity to be involved with the first team this season and to be a part of Manchester United. I want that to continue."

Bardsley is another product of United's successful youth system. After signing professional forms with the club in July 2003 he made his debut in December later that year in the Carling Cup against West Brom.

But it wasn't until this season that he has become a regular member of Sir Alex Ferguson's squad.

Successful Youth System? Man Utd? is the editor still living in the 90s?
I mean, successful? Wow, look at the current O'shea (02/03 wonder boy and that's it) and Fergie's adopted son (yes, he is proven, proven bad!).
That's successful? Alright.

FYI, Richardson was adopted from West Ham, Pique was adopted from Barcelona, Rossi was adopted from Parma, therefore, dont put these 3 into the mix of United "succesful" youth system, they were adopted, they were not born in the United Academy.

If Bardsley is "another" successful product, well, after the 90s, yes.

Anyway, congrats to the lad, but I hope he does understand that getting the contract extended is not the final achievement, that's not it, he has so much to repay his club for everything United gave him, according to the captain.

wouldn't this midfield be great?

Beckham--Butt--Scholes--Ronaldo

SAF sold 2 quality midfielders and here we are now. :kader:

Beckham, Butt and Phil Neville leaving aren't the reason we suck. We suck because we didn't bring in quality replacements and that Fergie didn't retire three seasons ago. It would be foolish to blame on the three mentioned midfielders. And when you got a stubborn manager like Fergie who cares more for horses than he does for the club, just figure out the conclusion yourself.

How would all of you feel about Rooney getting the armband against Chelsea? I don't think any of the defenders deserve captaincy at the moment, besides maybe Silvestre, and the midfield is... well... piss poor. I think Rooney is a better candidate for captaincy than Ruud is, as he puts in the effort every time he's on the pitch. Ruud gets taken out of the game when he's isolated, whereas Rooney makes sure that he stays involved in the play.

It would be weird, but he has been the closest thing to a leader for us in the recent matches.

(Oh, and what about Van der Sar?)
