That was fucking brilliant, I can hardly think of another central defender who has such moves. He's so cool and calm of the ball, worth every penny of the 30 million we spent.:p

Oh, and Heinze is an absolute nutcase.(H)

Looks like I'm gonna have to download this one. Any chance you can include this Rio masterclass in as well?

:D

We should all be glad United is back on track! I'm glad we're playing this "rotating positions" formation.

Looking at our attacking players, they're all mature and smart enough to play in different positions and move and cover each other. That's class and other teams don't have the luxury to use such tactics. I'm glad we've devised something like that.

It's fucking confusing I tell you.:(

Rooney, Ronaldo, Giggs and Scholes were constantly switching positions, a headache for defenders and managers.

I don't know if it's Fergie or Queiroz who came up with it but, it's a brilliant tactic.

This seems to be a new school of some sort. In a way.

Mourinho in Chelsea is definitely doing it in some way. Apart from the back four, the midfielders have quite a lot of freedom to move around, though they do not switch as much as we do.

Dutch football?

One other thing that worries me is I wonder if the other second team players have the footballing brains to keep up with this kind of constant covering.

Chelsea don't really do it a much as we seem to be lately. They basically play a 4-3-3 with Duff and Robben playing just off their target man. They don't roam about as much as I've seen Scholes, Rooney, Ronaldo, Giggs and even Smith (he espically in the Lyon match) do.

Gaz--Rio--Mickey--Nutcase
------------Keane-----------
Ronaldo/Giggs----Giggs/Ronaldo
-----Scholes----Rooney----
------------Smith-------------

That's the formation we used today.

What a good win! Absolutely delighted :p ! Everything from keeper to forwards was great and the defense was like untouchable. IN the whole game Southampton did not manage a single shot on goal and had only a spell of 3 minutes where they took 3 way off-target shots. United players were like passing it around in their own half for like 10 minutes, making SOuthampton run for the ball. Should have scored in the first half, but oh well. Rio was superb, especially that time when he was the last man with a ball and two forwards like 1 yard away from him, he then did a 360 turn with the outside of his foot to the right to get away from Phillips and then just continued on to pass it away to Gary right infront of Blackstock. Campbell only dreams of making such calm moves, no more like he can't even dream it in his dreams. And overall, his every single touch was good, his passes were just perfect, even those when the ball was in the air and he would like one time it straight to Silvestre with a powerful valley, compelety had the whole half covered. Ronaldo was pretty good too, with 90% of his moves coming off, SOuthampton just couldn't find a place his him and Giggs of coarse was absolutely superb, running after every single possible ball, probably his best performance in a whole season. United dominated from minute 0 to minute 92, it was really a joy to watch. And the good thing is that the new players are finally starting to understand what Fergie means when he tells them free-formation. Rooney even dribbled past two forwards right on the edge of his own box, before setting Bellion free, from where United almost scored through Giggs. It worked really well in the past before the 2002 season when we switched to 4-4-1-1 and now with 4-4-2 it works again. And it was evident, because United had so much space everywhere. Anyways great win, sadly the top 3 won today, but that ok, can't wait for next week.

does ronaldo understand his teammates are trying to cheer him up?

hopefully the language barrier wouldn't cause problems. Perhaps it'd be hard for Keano to yell at him.

I don't think he is that stupid, not to understand that everyone is happy for him. It's not a langguage issue, to express happiness and delightfullness there is no need for words. It's just that he knows that it should have not been his first goal of this game and not his first of the whole EPL season so far, that's why he kind of shows that well, great, finally i scored, took me frigin a hell of a lot of time. He is just angered that he scored just now and not earlier in the game and the whole season.

The goal was going to come sooner or later. He shouldn't be so hard on himself. Keep trying and you'll eventually score.

I'm glad there are some senior players there to encourage him. Shows how important it is to have players of different ages and experience to be in a team. This is classic United players taking the young under their wing.

After this goal hopefully he'll continue to score. This would hopefully boost his confidence.

He's been so close for so many times. Ronaldo is a great scoring threat and he can give us loads of assists.
7-12 goals per season with 10 assists would be very satisfying =)
