No way with LvG not play van Persie.... I think he may field Mata and push Rooney deep, which has never worked very well in the past. You now have a lot of firepower but still look about as stable as Eastern Ukraine.

That's why I have included RvP in the formation that I said will be van Gaal's probably formation. Rooney is captain and will play and as you say, RvP will play under van Gaal. Falcao will have to start because otherwise, LvG wouldn't have gotten him in the first place.

RvP has looked rusted in the last few games and even in the last few Holland games. I think he should be rested for a good few weeks.

Second formation is a decent one. Blind can go back in defense if needed to convert back to van Gaal's 3-5-2 "philosophy".

If LVG wants to stick with 3-5-2, that second formation could be converted.

Last time, Rooney wanted to leave because Ferguson played him as a CMF for a few games.
