EDIT: I saw a video of Ronaldinho repetitively shooting the ball at the post, then receiving it outside the box. Then doing it again and again.
that didn't actually happen.

Ronaldino isn't a striker guys...... so I don't know why everyone expects him to score everytime he touches the ball.

well nobody expects his to score every match. like i said earlier, the reason why i thought he was so disappointing is because he set his bar so high, and he wasn't close to meeting it. as a matter of fact, there were many matches were he didn't even show up.

i know he played in a different position and in a different system under parreira (who i don't think is a good manager for big, star-studded teams), but the great players find a way to adapt.

but, this was supposed to be his stage to show the world that he is the greatest player in the world now. unfortunately, it didn't work out, but hopefully he'll do better in the next world cup. for the past 2-3 years, he's shown he can deliver on the biggest stages, and we all expected him to do the same in germany.

as for ronaldo, he was horrible in the first two games, but he still finished with 3 goals and improved with each game. i think of all the brazilian players that under-performed, he actually played well, relatively.

and whoever said shevchenko was disappointing, please explain.

I think people could have seen Lampard's poor world cup coming.

His form was awful from february on IMO
Yep, spot on, and from a Lampard hater even. If this world cup was last summer, he might have challenged for the golden boot

Flat out awful

Worst, for me:
Ronaldinho, of course: showed one or two flashes of inventiveness, but was completely outshone on Brazil. After all that hype, his reputation has taken a major hit

Lampard: absolutely worthless. Drifted until the odd timed run to the edge of the box, where he skies the ball over

Owen: pains me to say because of the injury, but he just lurked and never looked like scoring. The fact that he is now out half a year is just a slap in the face.

Roberto Carlos: for his inability to mark set pieces alone

Good, but couldve been alot better

Ballack: again, he was occasionally very inventive, but mostly mute. But I noticed virtually all of Germany's build ups went through him

Podolski: After being hyped as the underrated Rooney, he was pretty average

Rooney: not fair cause he wasnt fit, but pretty pants

Deco: mostly anonymous

Terry: The best centreback in England was not as good as he couldve been

Gerrard: aside from the odd goal, he was useless

Luca Toni: clearly club form doesnt count for much

Ronaldo: the fact that he poached for three goals while loafing makes you wonder what he couldve done working hard for 90 minutes

Adriano: like Lampard, he's been sh*t this season, so I wasnt expecting much

Joaquin: very forgettable, as was most of Spain

Tevez: I was expecting alot more from him

Shevchenko: only the greatest of strikers can carry a team, but he is great and though Ukraine did good, he only netted twice

im sure im forgetting alot of people

I'd like to add Postiga to the club, and if just for that ridiculous dive he pulled against France, which must have been one of the most blatant cheat attempts in World Cup history.

Ronaldinho first, though, by a country mile. "Overplayed, long and hard season" my a$$... more like "overhyped" and "long and exhausting commercial shootings"...

Ronaldo poached 3 gols? well thats the dumbest thing I've read today....

I'll say that Dinho's lack of performance was due to the coach. Making him play defensively. With that said, against France he was playing upfront, and then he REALLY disappointed...

I knew Lampard was out of sorts before this started so his under par performances were not a surprise at all. TBH the tactics and formations and players used by Eriksson, were the main reason why England as a whole failed to impress. Every game saw a different lineup and formation. We must have been the only team at the world cup who didn't have a settled system. Dont dismiss the entire team though. Joe Cole played well and so did John Terry, those 2 seem to be overlooked just because the rest were dissapointing crap, although i expected more from them as well.

Anyway my list of players I expected more from. Remember this is about players who were overhyped.

Tevez.....tough little bloke, runs a lot, did fu<k all

Ronaldinho.......believes all the hype about himself more than anyone else does, too lightweight, plus every team on the planet knows how to nullify him by now

Requelme....overated before the world cup so I guess he didn't surprise me really. Still dissapointed though.

Henry.....1 goal. The rest was total s.h.i.t.

Torres....Rubbish.

The list is endless.......

I think it would be easier to remember who has impressed. This World Cup has been overall very dissapointing as a spectator, and I dont think I've seen one player who amazed me at all. The odd goal here and there was good but a very forgetable tournament compared to many past ones.

For the team that gave me the most laughs though, has to be Portugal. The game against Holland was hilarious as well as sickening. The game against France was the funniest example of synchronised team diving that I have ever witnessed in my life. If England had to go out against anyone, I'm glad it was Portugal otherwise I would never had been able to piss myself laughing at their performance against France. Sorry Portugeezers but your team are the shame of the World Cup 2006. Bye :ewan:

Yeah and yours is the laughing stock as usual :ewan:

Now now Vinnie. Put your hands up and be honest here. The Portugal team were very embarrassing at times were they not? Didn't you think the diving was over the top and much too frequent.

Your defensive comebacks are childish mate. I expected more from you.....but then again........

What defensive comebacks? I was just stating a fact. "Believe" crap and always ending up shooting yourselves in the foot (Beckham, Rooney etc etc). Comparison btw england´s roster and Brazil´s. Oh how right you guys were in that comparison you ended up going back home in the same round
Mentally weak as always, now piss off and go make some kits.

Vinnie....your countries National Team are a disgrace to football. They have the worst disciplinary record for this tournament. They have also demonstrated time and time again what a bunch of slimy cheating divers they are. This is a team ethic mate. this is not about one guy diving in one game. This is a tactic that Portugal rely on to win (or draw if they cant beat a team in 90 minutes). England might have played like s.h.i.t but Portugal NT behave like s.h.i.t.

You dont like that....then fu<k off yourself you pussy :ewan:

awaits the Portuguese mafia defending their brave wonderful boys......

HAHAHA you talking about disciplinary records when you had a hooligan in the pitch who stamp someone in the groin area? That´s worst than any red card offense from any portuguese player in this Wc. Let´s see Deco got wrongfully sent off because of time wasting and Costinha because of a handball. Shrek boy got sent off because of reckless play. Yep i guess that tell us who are the savages. The tactic Portugal uses to beat England is quite simple we are technically and mentally better than your weak players. Btw talking about diving Gerrard´s dive against Poland was way worse than any other dive from any portuguese player, but i guess we can forget about that, he is english.
Why am i even trying to discuss anything with you. Your reputation preceeds you in this forum. Now now old man don´t get frustrated and go destroy something because we know that it´s typical english behaviour. Relax and drink some water.

no mate I'm in a good mood but I'll answer any dipstick that wants to post at me. I posted my views and got the usual suspects coming back at me.

I've read much negativity said about England in this thread but has anyone been childish enough to come out fighting over it? nope. Just the Portuguese.

Vinnie... Pede is just a bitter sad c*nt. The type that reads The Sun and blames Ronaldo for England's exit from the World Cup.

I honestly don't know why you or anyone wastes their time with him.

What matters was what happened on the field and Portugal won over England AGAIN.
