NHL Players Lockout

That sounds cool ... should be good hockey to watch!

And the World Junior Championships are starting around Christmas time in North Dakota. :D It's always a big event here in Canada and all the games are televised on TSN. Canada hasn't won a gold medal since 1997 (I think) so we're due this year.;)

So there is still hockey going on in spite of the stupid lockout.

Well I went to go watch USA vs Russia and watch my friend play. USA won 5-3. 3 of the goals beind scored by two players from Buffalo which is an hour away from Rochester They scored an empty net goal from an impossible angle. They iced the puck out of there end, and the Russian defender wasn't skating that hard to the puck so the USA forward, Ryan Flynn, skated hard and beat him to the puck, he got the puck like a yard before the goal line shot it and scored.

Lockout is useful for European hockey. the attendence of matches of Russian Superleague is high but the NHL stars will help to increase very much. Ak Bars Kazan signed Khabibulin, Fred Bretwaith, Salei, Kasparaitis, Kovalchuk, Kovalev, Alexei Morozov, Vincent Lecavalier and Brad Richards, Lada Togliatti signed Markkanen, Maxim Kondratiev, Zubrus, Semin, Afanasenkov, Victor Kozlov, CKSA Moscow signed Zherdev, Spartak Moscow signed Konstantin Koltsov, Dynamo Moscow signed Andrei Markov, Pavel Rosa, Datsyuk, Avangard signed Jagr etc.

The AHl team in Rochester has made a huge turn around this year, they were the worst team in the league losing the first 6 games then then past 8 games they went 7-1, i haven't been to a game yet but will proably go to a game or two hopefully.

The minor league outfit here is getting 9 and 10 thousand to the games.

And this is the south.

So the lockout has been good for some here.

I think they should return the Stanley Cup to a challenge cup format until the NHL and NHLPA quit bitching.

They could run it like the English FA cup and invite teams from all over Canada in the US.

I think it would be great for fans and the players playing in the minor leagues and such.

that would be really cool but the chances of it happening are slim to none

the NHLPA just offered a deal that included a 24% payroll rollback, and can save the league $528M after the next 3 seasons

I honestly see no point in bringing the NHL back this season... just agree on a deal and return next season

The North American ice hockey season is in doubt after players rejected the latest bid to end a labour dispute.
League management turned down a proposal from the players' union to cut salaries by 24% - but their own financial offer was then rejected.

No new talks have been scheduled to end the dispute, which has resulted in management shutting down the league by enforcing a player lockout.

A row over a proposed salary cap has suspended play since September.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman praised the players' offer but said it could not work as it did not contain a link between revenue and player wages - which is what team owners are demanding.

The offer was a "big time significant and meaningful move" but "fatally flawed," Bettman said

"We formally responded to the union, we also made a counter proposal and it was rejected."

Bettman feels players would be able to recoup their reduced wages within a few years in the absence of a new economic agreement - to the detriment of the clubs.

He wants a salary cap system introduced but the National Hockey League Players Association are against Bettman's proposals.

There are now fears the dispute will not be resolved before January - the cut-off point for a meaningful season.
