Because Cruise got paid more...

They do that with a lot of films, not just Collateral. A lot of actors who are supporting are in it a lot more than actors that lead. Unless it's like the Aviator, lol. But you know what I mean.

Sometimes that really baffles me, how Spacey was considered a supporting actor for Usual Suspects I dont know.

I just saw Sideways a couple of days ago, will post my opinion on it elsewhere, but I have to say I didnt think Virginia Madsen was anything special. Her role was quite small and didnt really stretch her in any way, why she is the favourite I dont know. On the other hand, I have changed my mind and am now 100% behind Thomas Haden Church for best supporting actor.

Clive Owen was just magnificent. Without him and Natalie Portman, Closer would have been crap.

Haven't seen Sideways yet though but Clive Owen is definitely a notch above Morgan Freeman in my book.

I havent seen Closer, but everytime I have ever seen Clive Owen I have thought he was poor, still, apparently this is his best work. I can however confirm that Thomas Hayden Church is absolutely magnificant in Sideways and will be tough competition for anyone to beat.

I thought Ethan Hawk was pretty ordinary in Training Day, Denzel Washington's performance was good, though only worth an oscar in a bad year in my book, but really I would class him as a supporting actor, if Spacey counted as supporting for Usual Suspects, surely Washington should have for this.

Saketsharan, James Newton Howard is the man who arranged the score to The Village.

I heard it was OK and not very good, Mike Hodges is the legend behind Get Carter though so I would be willing to give this a shot.

I had never even heard of Clive Owen before Closer. He was truly the best of Closer apart from Portman's cute butt

Agree with you guys. Clive Owen stole the show in Closer; Jude Law was pretty bad in that one. I saw Garden State just before Closer, so I don't think I can give an honest judgement of Natalie Portman.

Superman
nah, Jude Law was awesome too. Clive Owen stole the show because it wasnt expected from him. also, Jude Law was in bad shape because he made so many movies in so little time and they didnt make any money so people is kind of tired of him.
personally, Sky Captain, Alfie, Closer and I Heart Huckabees (his 4 big performances) made my top 30 so he did pretty great in my book (Y)

same for my Julia Roberts, nobody talks about her, because Natalie Portman gave a revealing performance but Julia was excellent too only that since she already had her tough dramatic performance (which won her the Oscar), then this time its not a surprise.

besides the Oscars, we have two other big awards shows this same weekend, The Independent Spirit Awards and the Razzies!

At the ISA Zach Braff lost for First Screenplay but the won First Feature so Im really happy for him and Garden State.
Mean Creek won a few awards too like a Special Mention to the young cast and then Maria Full of Grace won First Screenplay and Best Actress.
The big winner of the night was of course Sideways which won all the awards they could get. Sup actor, Sup actress, Actor, Screenplay, Director and Best Feature.
It was good show. I love when they put Robin Williams as a presenter and then they cant control him once he gets up there and starts talking. He was there for around 3 minutes and it looked like his stand up comedy hour. He must've made like 50 different jokes about everything. he's awesome :funny: :D

And then the Razzies were yesterday and of course nobody wants those cause are given to the worst movies of the year.
Not a surprise that Catwoman took the honors (or shame :p ) and won a lot of prizes like Worst Picture, Worst Actress, Worst Screenplay and Worst Director.
The cast of Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 won all the other acting awards like Worst Actor for Bush, Worst Sup Actor for Rumsfield and and the funniest is Worst Sup Actress for Britney Spears for that minute she was on the movie talking about politics and how she believed in Bush
Bush and Condoleeza Rice won for Worst Onscreen Couple :p

If the first two nominations are anything to go after it seems like The Aviator and Million Dollar Baby will be fighting for the top spot tonight.
