Good post ZKA.
I did emphasise that it always an idiot minority that ruins everything for all of us. The true English fans have probably suffered more than any other fan in the world thanks to our idiot minority.
We had ALL English clubs banned from Europe for years due to a few idiot Liverpool "fans". The rest of us will never forgive that, or the disgrace that they brought to true English fans.
Regarding the violence against the England fans by Croatian police. Two members of the UK Government, attending the game as observers and assessors, were migling with the fans in question. They have issued a Diplomatic statement stating that, it was due to the fact that the English fans didn't understand what the Croatian police were saying, due to none of the fans being able to speak Croatian. None of the police in question could speak English either. The police, not being able to make their intentions clear, lost patience and attacked the fans with batons. One of the UK observers was one of the first hit, and he claims that he spoke to the cop in Croatian. The cop told him "alledgedly", that he didn't care and that the English are s.h.i.t. The cop then hit the observer again and again.
England has hosted many many football matches over many decades, all the way through the times when hooliganism was at its peak, to games today where to spectate is generally regarded as a family event.
I do not recall the police in England EVER being accused of violence against visiting fans. On the contrary, the police in this country have always ensured the safety of visiting fans even if it means targeting English fans who may be intent on causing trouble.
The job of any police force should be to protect. Not to attack. If this incident concerned one cop then it could be excusable, but this involved an entire squad of police.
If anyone in an English stadium is seen to make a "facist" salute, they are ejected pure and simple. It is not impossible to deal with. It just depends if the authorities are WILLING to deal with it. Croatia's various authorities do not seem willing to deal with it, otherwise it would be simple to go into the crowd and remove idiots like that.
You will not see flag burning in English stadiums because doing that would see you ejected from the stadium and possibly charged with inciting racial violence. It is not impossible to deal with issues like this if the desire to deal with it is there.
