[P+R] Croatia vs. England

Good post ZKA.

I did emphasise that it always an idiot minority that ruins everything for all of us. The true English fans have probably suffered more than any other fan in the world thanks to our idiot minority.

We had ALL English clubs banned from Europe for years due to a few idiot Liverpool "fans". The rest of us will never forgive that, or the disgrace that they brought to true English fans.

Regarding the violence against the England fans by Croatian police. Two members of the UK Government, attending the game as observers and assessors, were migling with the fans in question. They have issued a Diplomatic statement stating that, it was due to the fact that the English fans didn't understand what the Croatian police were saying, due to none of the fans being able to speak Croatian. None of the police in question could speak English either. The police, not being able to make their intentions clear, lost patience and attacked the fans with batons. One of the UK observers was one of the first hit, and he claims that he spoke to the cop in Croatian. The cop told him "alledgedly", that he didn't care and that the English are s.h.i.t. The cop then hit the observer again and again.

England has hosted many many football matches over many decades, all the way through the times when hooliganism was at its peak, to games today where to spectate is generally regarded as a family event.

I do not recall the police in England EVER being accused of violence against visiting fans. On the contrary, the police in this country have always ensured the safety of visiting fans even if it means targeting English fans who may be intent on causing trouble.

The job of any police force should be to protect. Not to attack. If this incident concerned one cop then it could be excusable, but this involved an entire squad of police.

If anyone in an English stadium is seen to make a "facist" salute, they are ejected pure and simple. It is not impossible to deal with. It just depends if the authorities are WILLING to deal with it. Croatia's various authorities do not seem willing to deal with it, otherwise it would be simple to go into the crowd and remove idiots like that.

You will not see flag burning in English stadiums because doing that would see you ejected from the stadium and possibly charged with inciting racial violence. It is not impossible to deal with issues like this if the desire to deal with it is there.

You're right, it can be helped, but maybe in the near future, not now. We're running for Euro 2012, and it wouldn't look very good if the association banned people from attending games. They can't do that now, and even if they could, it would be questionable if it would even work.
Two of Croatia's strongest clubs, Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk Split, have reached a truce in 1997. Well, not a truce, but a pact. They agreed that one group wouldn't attack the other. This lasted for almost ten years, because after the match against Andora, those two groups (Bad Blue Boys and Torcida) had a major fight on the main square (!!!), there was like two hundred of them. This was arranged as means to eliminate us from the race to host the European championship. I can't imagine why anyone would want to do that, but obviously there are people who don't want to see us host a competition. It didn't stop there. After the England game, BBB and Torcida again engaged each other at the main train station. Two fights in five days after over nine years of relative peace. This is obviously an attempt to destroy our chances for Euro, and the FA president Marković confirmed this. He said he knew there were people who wanted to do this.
So you see, if we removed the racists from the stadiums, we'd still be left with other problems. And this racism thing wasn't so highlighted in the past. But after we had announced our candidature for hosting, some people have started doing their best to cause trouble. We had problems with morons before, like every nation has. But those were just smaller fights and a few thrown torches. Now it's racism and it's much more serious. Some Hungarian idiots also protested against the candidature, which is a joint effort, when the UEFA inspection was there. Don't get me wrong, these problems aren't here because of the race. They are present everywhere just like here, but some people have decided it would be in their best interest if these problems surfaced. This is the reason why BBB and Torcida fought, this is the reason why there are more racists than before, this is the reason for every major problem in recent past, and it will be the reason for major problems until UEFA (finally) arrives at a decision. Again, it's not like we never had this, but not to this extent. I don't understand it.
If we are to solve this, we have to do our best to prevent idiots from creating incidents with other idiots of a different or same nationality, until UEFA decide who hosts the championship. After this, either eliminate Croatian teams from European competitions for a few years, or issue an order to have all fans banned from attending games where Croatia/Cro teams play. The latter is less probable because it would mean significant financial damage for both Croatian and other clubs. So the way I see it, we would have to be given a medicine like the one England got... maybe it would be too extreme, but I think it's the only way to erase the problem.
In reality, no one will eliminate us from Euro competitions because a major tragedy hasn't occured, and also I doubt we would have to take extreme measures after the host is announced. Everything will die down after that because the decision will be made and no one would be able to do anything about it anymore. Then these hooligans would lose some of their motivation and problems would decrease.

BTW, if the security thing is true, I think it's a disgrace that no one from the police force knew what the English were saying. I mean, everyone has a duty to understand at least a bit of English, with it being the leading language and all. I don't know how the affair happened, and I won't take any conclusions. I don't believe the English got beat up because the security couldn't understand them, but if it's true, then it's a real shame for our country. These people make you feel embarrassed because you have the same nationality, and the world draws conclusions based on insufficient information, thus identifying a large group of people with actions taken by a smaller group. That's why we are in danger of not playing the Euro 08. It sucks.

what really really puzzles me is that downing is nothing more than a poor mans beckham. he cant run fast, hes not smart with through balls, he cant tackle, he cant run at players and be able to go both ways (all he does is charge down his left). he is decent (at best!) at crossing, and he is decent (at best!) at free kicks. beckham is amazing at corners, free kicks, set pieces, and crosses. why the he.ll is beckham dropped and downing STARTING GAMES! gerrard should temporarily play on the left and beckham take the right.

mcclaren should be sacked asap. i cannot believe he got job. another thing that bothers me is that if everyone agrees that eriksson was not the solution for england, why the he.ll is mcclaren the enw manager when he was erikssons BIT.CH! its really retarded. ive never gone against england, ive always wantedthem to win no matter what, but with mcclaren as coach it is ruining a perfectly good opportunity to seriously test in competitions.
