Yeah England were abysmal last night. Croatia are a good team, but not that good. People harp on about their good home record, which is all well and good but they have never played Holland, Spain, France, Germany in qualifiers at home and is slightly skewed by the fact they have beaten the likes of Sweden, Belgium, Bulgaria etc...

I would argue this has been their biggest test at home in a qualifier for about a decade.

Gotta give them credit though - the inexperience of Petric and Da Silva upfront caused an experienced and world class England defence too many problems and they allowed Krancjar (the playmaker) all the space and time in the world to pick out passes and do what the hell he liked. And if Croatia have built the team around him, you don't allow him that space.

These were just basic rudimentary errors by McClaren, and was compounded by the fact that he has 11 gutless wonders in his side, who don't really give a toss and play like its a holiday break.

You only have to look at Bilic and how he dropped Klasnic in favour of Da Silva, to see a coach who is relying on youth and players with guts and passion. Things that have been lacking in the England side since 1996 with Venables.

If it was up to me, I would drop the majority of the current squad, save a few who do geniuely try, install Venables as head coach, relegate McClaren back to where he belongs (assistant coach - a position he will only ever be able to hold down) and bring back some passion and drive back into this side.

The funny thing is that at least yesterday, soccernet's headline said "Comedy in Croatia" and this same pic, with Borat giving that nasty look at the scene. It was priceless.

Well Well. Israel were in the same qualifying group as my team, The Republic of Ireland, for the World Cup 06. Explain to me how Israel got cheated in that competition? They drew against the best 3 teams fair enough, but how did they get cheated? ******* nob. Call me an idiot?

Ireland -v- Israel at Lansdowne, the Israeli players wasted time every occasion possible in the second half, dived every time they were touched, and the goalkeeper Dudu Awat got Andy O'Brien sent off by claiming he was headbutted when in, according to video evidence, that was not the case.

I can't beleive how everyone just goes on about that funny goal. Only thing funny was england's performance: 4 shots and only one (a very poor one)on target, in the 91 minute. Croatia had 16 shots, and corners 9:1... an excellent performance. Come on, give some credit to our young and talented team... that after all, thrashed another big headed english illusion of being the world's best team!!!

i believe the "funny goal" summed up the day england had. it is why it's the focus of attention. Croatia played great though and i will not take that away from them.
