Question of the Week: New Stars

I am assuming some become complacent because they get huge salaries and feel like they are on top of the world.

I am not wrong. There are not fewer young stars now than 10 years or 50 years ago, in fact there are more as more nations start producing top players and more clubs emerge as European powers. Some players flame out, some players rise to the occasion, but that's just statistics. Footballers have been rich for decades, and been famous in a way they could take advantage of for decades before that.

17 or 18 year old completely unproven players like Pogba or Januzaj would never have been given huge salaries that early in the past.

That's because there weren't as many young good players and there wasn't as much money, not because some kind of principle has changed.

I don't dispute that players get a lot more money at much younger ages, I'm just saying that their development (ON AGGREGATE) does not stall because of it.

Pogba, incidentally, was worth every penny of his salary from the first time he stepped on a training pitch at Juventus. He was clearly worth the money that United would not pay him. If United wants to low ball players on their fair market value for the sole reason that they are "too young", they can live with the consequences of that decision.

Okocha is still the most charismatic nigga ever played in the islands.

Yes though he did face a brief challenge from Lomana LuaLua.

The relevance to this thread is that Babayaro was not that great really, and the likes of him and Yobo and Kanu were the best we had and even they were rareities, now the Premier League is absolutely awash with talented niggas who were found in the jungle at a young young age
