The most difficult task for Schuster will be to bench Raul. If he can do that, you will virtually have an extra player on the team. I doubt he'll do it, though. Not even Capello benched Raul, and this is the guy who drove Ronaldo out of the club and benched the biggest shirt seller.
Schuster just doesn't seem like someone who would have the balls to do it.
btw Robben is a quality signing. Not worth €36M, but definitely a quality player who will do a lot for you if he can stay fit.

Del Piero is benched by the juve coach and he doesnt mindOrgulloVikingo;2385979 said:I think the club feels bad and so won't bench him. I think they are waiting for him to give it up. Anyways, looking forward to the derby. Perfect way to start the season. I have a feeling that our squad will show up tomorrow and command the game and come away w/ the 3 points. I predict: 3-1 Goals by Robinho, Ramos, Ruud and Forlan for them.
We should sign a petition and send it to the front office, asking for Schuster to STFU!!KingPaulV;2385984 said:we should sign a petition and send it to the front office, asking for Raul to be benched...hehe

What the player feels is never important. Managers don't give a sh*t about that, especially not Capello. Just remember how Ronaldo was kicked out, or Beckham. The difference was, none of them had Raul's status. What's important is the opinion of the fans. In Raul's case, he never gets booed in the Bernabeu. No matter how he plays. The club leaders know this and they want to please the fans, so the coach is forced to play him at all times.
I'm 100% sure Raul wouldn't mind being on the bench. He'd fight for his place like every other player. But, again, his feelings, Schuster's tactical plans and all that don't mean anything. The Bernabeu adores this player and it seems like that will never change. I can't remember the last good game he played and they still worship him. It's different with Madrid citizens and other Madridistas from around the world. I see a lot of people on the Internet (95% of Madridistas) wanting Raul on the bench, some even want him sold, but it's different with the people in the stadium. Madrid presidents don't want to mess with the fans, so every coach chooses a team of 10 players + Raul by default.
He's untouchable, unfortunately for your club.
Socrates;2386154 said:Not really, after the Sevilla match the big topic was if Raul should start or not and some people that called in from Spain ( Madrid be it ) said he should be benched. I know some other Socio's ( either in Madrid or who have grown up in Madrid and now live elsewhere ) who would not mind it if he was benched so that's not really true. I think that if Saviola was to replace him for a couple games and perfrom than we would not really mind it, Raul has done a lot and a been a legend but even the fans in the staduim know that he is not performing like he use to.
Vedran-10;2386167 said:I know that not EVERYONE in Madrid wants him to start, but a big majority of the fans there do. If it was otherwise, he would have been benched.
The only reason that player keeps starting for your club are the fans. Nothing else.
And the discussion about whether he should start or not are irrelevant. There have been such discussions online for years now. I was reading on another forum the other day a discussion about whether Schuster would have the balls to bench Raul, and a Madridista said that every summer they have these discussions and get their hopes up, and nothing happens. His status in the team has been questioned many times, it isn't since the Supercopa, but still it remains the same.
I'd be very surprised if he got the bench. The Bernabeu crowd wouldn't tolerate it, IMO. They haven't so far, and I don't see what could change. He's been ruining your chances for years now and they don't seem to care. They didn't hesitate to boo Ronaldo for his "game", but Raul is a different story, despite the fact that they were equally sh*t, perhaps Raul was even worse than Ronaldo, and yet the latter was forced out, and Raul is still your starter.

I don't think he means he's the reason you didn't win trophies those years you didn't, but that he has ruined some chances, adn you could've had better players on the field instead of him. He definitely wasn't stabbing you....
