Raul is still a good player but I think his time has come to move on. :rockman:

should raul captain spain in the world cup? i would agree with Seggie, his time has come to move on. not only from madrid, but also from captaining his national side.

i can think of many other players on that team (Puyol for starters) that could do a better job than he could. spain needs to start challenging for major honors, and to do that, they need a strong leader. i don't even think he should be in the starting lineup, much less captain.

it's important to note that i'm not saying all this because i'm a barca fan. i generally want spain to do well, and i feel that he's holding the team back.

thoughts?

Well I support Madrid and as much as I dont want to say it I dont think he should go to WC, he will be a wast of space. Before his injury he was doing good and I defended him but now I dont think he should go. Just my personal opinion.

Absolutely YES.

Raul has been always been a decisive factor in Spain success or failures. Something you can't say about some players that hide when the time comes to show the real material they're made of.

Besides he has never stopped scoring with the NT in this years of form slump in Madrid (which isn't his main function cause he's not the center forward), I can't find a player in the squad with his charisma and determination, not to mention his experience in the international stage (number of WC and European Cups, number of international cups with his club). I don't wanna imagine the team down 2-0 with the pussies of Reyes and Luis Garcia just wandering upfront without any faith. Those kind of players need a leader near.

Being I a starter? This is something debatable of course, but him captaining the team is a must, even his squad mates agree with this.

BTW the captain is usually the man with more years in the NT, that makes Cañizares or Casillas the most likely alternative captains :P

Raul must be there.

Interesting, people keep complaining about Raul, but they dont say anything about Morientes or Torres who have a worst goal rate.

Look at the guy who made this topic...LOL he is a Barca fan. And also saying that Puyol needs to be captain! :ewan:

Like Face said, Raul is the most important player for Spain. Who said that he isnt a leader?! He always scored for Spain. ALWAYS! He can play as ACM, so you can have Torres(who had a s*cky season also) and Villa upfront.

Well aprt from Villa no one has been great in terms of forwards. Look at it like this though, if you guys play 4-3-3 than where will Raul fit? Villa should start as the forward and Raul is so slow now a days that I cant seeing him being the only forward. I dont think he will play as a CM/AMC either and again he is too slow to play as a wing/forward. So heres how I stand, I dont think he should go in the first place but IF he does than yes he should be captian because he has great leadership skills.

Casillas as the other captian(Y)(H)

i think puyol should be captain.

but i still think raul should be in the squad. starting xi? that's iffy.

fyi: i'm not a big fan of puyol but have been an admirer of raul. it's sad to see how much he's fallen. there was an interesting article about ronaldo in 4-4-2 and it mentions raul's near-hatred to ronaldo. interesting stuff.

It's either that or the press from Madrid will kill them..

i think he should become captain, i think he has proven enough in his career to become captain for what could possibly be his last world cup. :ewan:

If he hates Ronaldo for the fact that hes lost his place, hes a nob

according to the article, the reason for it was they're so different. raul's all edgy and always serious and professional, while ronaldo's relaxed and likes to have fun and party.

raul works for the team and believes in running around, ronaldo doesn't run and wants to just score.

the raul was upset that pres. perez favored ronaldo so much and always made excuses for him.

it was funny...the article was saying, one teammate said to ronaldo during training: "run, you fat f*ck!"

then ronaldo says: "you run. i score goals."

haha...
