Dont you guys think its about time we had a league? Like a real league. (Not join the MLS......and im not saying its not a good league).

Canada is advancing slowly but is putting more effort than ever to move forward in the world of football. Without a league, im afraid itll be too hard to develope the players right (not just drafting them from high schools).

I went to see an Azurri practice (best team in Canada). While they were very good.....i realized. Wow......this is as good as it gets. The rest of the teams are either **** or slightly better than mediocre.

I dont know but whoever said that USA will take forever to advance in soccer is clearly a ******* retard. Did they forget that North America is getting filled up more and more with: Argentinians, Brazilians, Mexicans, Germans, Italians, Uruguayans, Portuguese....etc. All immigrants with huge love for football (that are having kids).

Im not saying Canadians suck either (alot of good players).

Canada (or atleast the multicultural parts of the East) is changing into a new mixed race as time goes on (eventually). Also football is growing more and more. Canada has the money too.

They just need that extra thing to get going. (im guessing winning mentality and to stop the fear that "EVERYTHING Is here to kill Hockey....AHH!!!!!!!!)

(Also It got me thinking......I think if the NT played in the Skydome (or just Toronto) it would get WAYYYYYYYYYYYY more packed than Vancouver or Manitoba (where they usually play).

What do you guys think?

WE NEED A LEAGUE!

even 3rd world countries have leagues

come on just put some money together and get it started... I would support it, and it would be very useful for the future if they wanna be even close to America in skill

you have the A-league which is now the USL Division 1 with teams from Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. Montreal:sb9: won the championship last year, even though they pulled a roy carrol blunder against us in the playoffs. You had teams in Edmonton (1 season) and Calgary (3 seasons) but they folded so maybe you don't need a whole league of your own.

no doubt that Canada needs a real league, though that part about immigrants...weeelll, i don't know.

dont think you know much about Canada (Well atleast Ontario/Quebec) if you think there are no other nationalities here.

70% of Toronto is from outside. Its actually rare to see a full canadian a few times.

jesus christ....even in Hockey Canada cant come up with a full pro league. In the NATIONAL SPORT. Canada has like 6 teams in the NHL (To, Montreal, Edmonton, Calgary, Vacouver, Ottawa)
....compared to like 30 from the US (who arnt as nearly fanatics there about hockey as here).

Canada's "A-League" is a sad amature league that will never lead to absolutely anything. Ever. Its almost a freaken house-league for adults. Its worthless.

They dont compete in club championships (they got that Concacaf cup thing that Mexico wins all the time).

Id support a league right away. Id even prob buy season tickets.

We need to have a league ASAP if were ever gonna compete worldwide.

First they gotta change the Canadian SC to "Football" like Australia did recently.

The CSA is actually doing a whole reconstruction right now but they've started completely on the wrong foot.

I think it would be good for football in Canada. You don't have to have teams from all over Canada....ala MLS.....look what is happening to the MLS as a result. Set up teams were there is a real passion for football. And above all don't do things like the MLS. Play the sport as its played in Europe. Set up one division and if there are enough teams a relegation/promotion system.

If they had a team in Hamilton I would also get season tickets, and I would support it no matter how crappy it is.

you obviously don't watch, the #1 draft pick of the 2001 MLS draft play for Rochester, a player who played in the Portuguese SuperLiga plays for Rochester, the arguably the best goalie in the MLS (Pat Onstad you're starting goalie for your NT) became famous in the A-league in Rochester. Top D1 college kids play here. I'm sure there are many other great players. why don't you try out for an A-league team if they're so bad.

(sigh).......you misunderstood my post.
i didnt mean it as a way of bashing the A-League's credibility. I know that they have many class players there. But what i meant is that the way its organized it will never help grow Canada at the rate that they want to be. (Ie: Not participating in some continental championships, the way its organized).

Never meant to insult the a-league's players (if you managed to see it that way).

No, we definatly DO NOT need a Canadian league, as much as we all would like to see a flourishing Canadian first division, it would fail. We've had leagues before, and they've always gone under, places outside of Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto just don't have the fan base to support a professional soccer team. The Montreal Impact and Toronto Lynx do pretty well in the A-League, so I think in our best interest we need to try to eventually get these franchises in the MLS, and get more Canadians playing in the MLS in general.

This couldn't be further from the truth. The Canadian NT doesn't get the same loyalty in Toronto tha it does elsewhere (I can't remember the last time the NT played in Manitoba, btw..) Vancouver and especially Edmonton are where the Canadian NT gets the most support, been that way for years. Although, Vancouver isn't as good as it used to be, as we all saw in a couple of our WC qualifying games

Why don't the CSA buy a Belgium team and create a squad full of Canadian players on that team?

Beveren is filled with Ivory Coast players from the Asec Mimosas academy and I'm just wondering why the CSA doesn't do the same thing.

do you even live in toronto? I hope you know soccer is as big here (prob even bigger) than any part of canada. You need proof? Highest number of ppl went to the skydome in 10 years (unless u count wrestlemania in 2001) in the last 2 games this summer (Liverpool/porto.......roma/celtic). In Roma/Celtic (which I went). There were not only celts and Italians but....Canadians, Argentinians, Spanish, British, Portuguese, Japanese.

Even if people here might not seem fanatics of the national team....Toronto is soccer crazy and people all over (especially Brits I know) would love to see Canada play just to support them.

Like Im baffled by your "Edmonton" (trying not to laugh) comment. Hope you know that last summer's games were so successful that there are going to be (atleast) 2 more games this summer if not more.

I grew up here most of my life man. I could have counted thousands of conversations where people are saying "Why the hell dont they play in toronto?". Especially Toronto that its so pro sport. (Hockey/B-ball/even LAcross....always packed.)

Atleast Toronto is getting the York University Stadium. (which is too bad since my university originally had the plans for it but blew it). In Canadasoccer.com.....it even says that its going to be the new official home for NT. (So CSA wants Toronto now and are convinced of its fanbase.....Little hole in your argument there bud)

farther from the truth? right.

avg. attendances last year for canadian teams:

Calgary - 1,258
Edmonton - 1,478
Montreal - 9,279
Toronto - 2,444
Vancouver - 4,833

League Average - 3,879

If i lived in Toronto, id go to A-League games, but i live 40 min away, so thats why i dont go.

For MLS, id make the trip every couple weeks.

I agree with the guy that said it earlier, if there were NT WCQ held in Toronto, id be at every one with all my friends.

The games held in Vancouver are always attended by more people from Guatemala/honduras etc...

You see how difficult it is to maintain a professional soccer league in the United States, where there's a lot more people and a lot more money (sponsorships). If a Canadian league was to exist, it would have to pay A-League-level salaries to its players, which means talented Canadian players are going to choose MLS or Europe instead. The best option for Canada is to get two or three expansion teams into MLS. It would also help to have more Canadians choose MLS instead of third-rate European clubs. It's difficult to have a national team when the players are scattered all over the world.
