HAHA. Anothor disillusioned Montrealer. You guys are such losers. I found montreal to be the gloomiest most depressing city other than Washington that I have ever been too. Montreal's big, but Toronto's bigger.

Anyway, I might have supported a Canadian league If I hadn't started following soccer sooner.

You see, I have already ascended to die-hardendom in terms of my support of Manchester City, and I could never just abandon them for a Team full of not-so-great players in an untelivised and unnattended league.

The best option for Canada is to get two or three expansion teams into MLS. It would also help to have more Canadians choose MLS instead of third-rate European clubs.

Very true.

This isn't Europe or a part of the world where soccer is firmly established. The only way I can see soccer cementing its place is NA is by bringing the MLS to Canada. The US could get soccer going by itself, but if our two countries were to go together with it I believe there would be better results, and they'd happen quicker.

If the MLS can get big enough in both countries, that will help both NT's as salaries will rise and keep talent close to home while aiding in bringing up younger talent.

If Canada were to make the World Cup, how many of you would support them over your team of heritage?

Nope. I would still support my two teams of heritage before I would support Canada

I'd love to see 2-3 MLS expansion teams move into Canada along with some more in the US and get to around 20 teams and move toward a multi-level league with promotion/relagation and all that. Would be good for all of us by bringing up the level of play in North America, salaries, and competition and maybe we would get something nice like a North American cup. Short of an absolute explosion in popularity something like a full independent league that rivals the MLS is a loooong way off. You have a great opportunity right now if you can bring in some MLS teams and support them. Good to luck to you guys, I hope you get a team(s) soon.

Id support both Italy and Canada. If they faced eachother, id go for team that needed win more (if it was group stage), and would be neutral otherwise.

Hopefully at 2010 Ill be placed in this situation.

Portugal vs. Canada ...would be hard to celebrate either way. When they played a friendly not so long ago, I was just glad to see that Canada made an honourable showing and that the Benfica players played well.

Damn, we really need to get back to the WC :( It's frustrating to see teams like Panama, Trinidad, etc move ahead of us in qualifying when we most definately have a better team. :nape: We just really need that special coach that can inspire confidence in our players.. Staltieri, Iain Hume, De Rosario, De Guzman, are all as good as anyone on the US team IMO, it's a shame they're being wasted at the international level..

soccer in this country will never advance.

Soccer in USA sucks also, MLS is a joke, and so is their national team. USA thinks they're the best at everything, so they don't bring in foreign coaches. Look at korea and japan they are advancing because they accept the fact that they need to bring in european influence to be successful.

In a country where baseball is the national "sport" if you can call it that, soccer will never advance.

You my friend are a joke. :ewan: And a very funny one at that :funny:

FYI almost half the teams in MLS have foreign coaches.

im both an italian citizen and a canadian citizen.....

so, split down the middle, neutral. just say italy vs canada world cup final, italy wins i run through the streets cheering and yelling in joy, canada wins, i do the exact same thing, it's win win when both of your countries are put in that situation

I already do support Canada, so that question doesn't mean much to me. World Cup or no World Cup, I watched every qualifying game that was aired, even if it meant getting up in the wee hours. I refuse to support another country's football NT (England/Scotland/Germany...my heritage), becuase..why? Canada is my country.

Do they have a foreign coach for their international team also?

for Christ sake, the US national team has even had players on the squad who don't even speak English.. The fact that their coaches until now how been American means absolutly nothing. Besides, Carlos Queiroz was very close to signing on as the US coach several years ago.

Like Turkey is even a blip in the history of World Football.

Soccer in USA and Canada is exactly how it was in Japan PRE-J-League. It was/is of the most (if not the most) popular sports for regular people/schools/universities at a non pro level.

Just because Canada doesnt have a Pro-League doesnt mean ****. I'm tired of people linking a Sport with the league

FOR example: "Hockey will die if NHL dies......its the end of Hockey in Canada"
HELL NO.......It's the end of the NHL (which is just a league of pros....not the sport itself)...people will still play hockey and there will be another league sooner or later. The sport will live on.

Like how some ppl say that "Scottish football could die if the league doesnt fix its problems" ........again wrong. If the league folds, they would start a new one. But the popularity of the game will still exist.

And I think that its great to be of more than 1 nation. You can belong to both wether your Italian/scottish/...etc and Canadian. I for one would cheer for Uruguay in the final. It would hurt.....but I love the Uruguay NT way too much to ever go against it. I hope it would never happen....It's like having a mother and father fight eachother or something.

after watching Canada at WYC slump against Syria

Actually I think they did pretty well except that they couldn't score another goal. I think Ryan Giaki and David Edgar will be good players for us in the future. And there's Jonathan De Guzman (Julien's bro) who is captain of Feyenoord's U17 team who might play for us (if he doesn't choose to play for Holland).

And count me out of the Jaime Peters hype camp. I think he's overrated.

Great News for Canadian Soccer!

It's official, Julian De Guzman will play for Deportivo La Coruna for the next 4 seasons! Awesome to see a Canadian playing for one of the top teams in argueably the best league in the world. Hopefully there will be more to follow.. :rockman:

Here's the article in Portuguese, basically just states what I mentioned above..
.......................................................................................................

PS - I think it's time I made this the "official" Canadian Soccer thread.. :D
