It's as if he saw those positions as "disposable" and just brought on some players. You should never do that, especially under a tournament as important as the World Cup. Any player can shock.

Maybe I'm stupid, but anyone think England can play like Arsenal? Lamps could do that free role attacking midfielder role with no defensive responsibilities, Rooney can play the false 9 role brilliantly, Walcott is on England, left wing you could use Gerrard/Cole/Johnson, central mid you have Wilshire and Barry (or Huddlestone or whoever), and the defense and keeper would be an improvement. Am I crazy? Maybe some feelings get hurt if you leave out Gerrard or Barry, but I don't think anyone disputes that it's time for a changing of the guard. Gerrard could also play AMC without defensive responsibilities as that was the position he played when he was at the peak of his career for Liverpool.
I'd like to see us try something different. I wouldn't mind seeing us try out a 4-2-3-1 formation since it would be easier to pass our way to victory, which we don't usually do.
Also, when on form, Rooney can play that lone striker role excellently.
It could maybe look something like this:
Hart
Richards - Ferdinand - Cahill/Terry/etc. - A. Cole
Wilshere - Barry
Walcott/Lennon - Gerrard - A. Johnson
Rooney
In the next few years, you can also implement players such as Smalling, Huddlestone, Bent, Rodwell, Carroll etc.
I'm also quite sure that Shelvey will be a good player for England some time.

Well, even when Rooney isn't scoring, the lone striker role can be more about positioning and movement than actually finishing, which Rooney is great at. He can also press the defense.

What do you guys think of Carroll? I think he looks like a great prospect. Talents are rare to find in England but right now A. Johnson, Carroll, Rodwell and Wilshere look like brilliant prospects. I'm pretty sure Johnson, Rodwell and Wilshere will play some major part in the WC 2014. There are players like Walcott (Still 21), Henderson, Smalling, Welbeck who have great potential as well.
He's got great potential. I haven't watched him enough though to be sure whether he can become a real world class player. I'd just like to see Bent have a run of 5-6 games in the team to see how he does on the international stage. He's done enough to deserve it. I'd also like to see A. Young and Agbonlahor play more of a role. I find it unbelievable that they haven't been involved at all, so far.
Well........ it hurts saying this :P but u got a point. It did really have a negative effect. I do hate JT but he puts his body on the line for his team theres no doubt about it and he has also improved technically to suit the modern game this season and is a born leader and can take responsibility and authority. Pure Captain Material: JT and Gerrard. Lamps is no captain. When he was handed the CA his words were enough for me to predict he was gonna flop so he did.
In my opinion the armband is not too much of an issue. The british media makes it like that and the players arent kids so everyone must take their responsibility. The main issue is to make all of them understand it doesnt matter who is wearing the armband and make them feel comfortable with each other without putting too much pressure on them.
Yes its arguable that if Ballack was in that Germany squad would they have beaten Spain or not. I think yes they could have because he could have helped them to concentrate on playing other than thinking "IF I FAIL". Schweini had that look on his face through out the match. And who made the difference in the match Puyol(Captain and its clear why he doesnt have the armband as Iker plays for Real and he is the C their).

You guys are masters at ruining young talent. You need to cool the **** out about Wilshere or he's going to end up like Gazza.
No i guess not because Wilshere seems very matured he doesnt comment on other people say about him just does it on the pitch. And Rooney to be honest is victim of undeserved criticism from the press. the British press all the time pressurize players which is not a big deal in other successful nations. People have freedom to do what they want to so privacy is going to be exploited but why is given so much priority as all players have to do is play well on the field. Podolski still plays for Germany despite slapping Ballack. Brazilian players continue playing despite controversial stuff always going around them.
