very nice play M8. :rockman:

i wish that i had a digicam, cuz i scored a sweet goal with Mendieta today. off of a goal kick from the opposition, i won a header at midfield with Overmars, who headed the ball to Enrique, then he passed it to Saviola (who was running toward him), and i passed a perfect through ball between 2 defenders to Mendieta, who recieved the pass at about 20 yards from goal. Mendieta was in the center of the pitch, recieved the ball on his left heel, bounced it ahead of him a bit, there was a defender on his left ahead of him. he then cut hard to the right, and immediately after, did a sweet spin move and lost the defender. by the time the spin move was completed, he was already in the process of shooting with his right foot, i landed the ball in the top right corner. it's a shame i can't post the play and the goal here, because it was beautiful! w00t!

touch sensitive

I just wanted to know if anyone has been able to control lob pass heights/speeds,sometimes it seems when you turn quickly and shoot off a lob pass that it is harder+lower.......

I assume you are playing on PS2 or you wouldnt post here. So to answer your inquiry...

Quite simply our pads are touch sensitive as your probably know. So as tested by myself... If you want to do a high lob pass, tap the square button. If you want to do a low chip pass, TAP the button FIRMLY. Its really hard to get the hang of, but if you practice it on amateur, you will see i am speaking the truth. You can also Hold in the square button hard or gently, to create a high or low long kick up the pitch.

Same applies to shooting if you wana do a wee tap in gently tap the shoot button, if you wana hit it hard and low, firmly tap the shoot button,
If you want to smack it into the middle of the net, hold in the shoot firmly (not too long or you will miss obviously) and it you wana draft it into the top corner, gently hold the shoot button in.

Hope this helps everyone- You need a black ps2 controller btw! Not the white ps1.

Any one hit top corner in a penalty yet? its starting to bug me.

I've been fooling around with the controls, still seems that at times the pressure sensitives do not work...but I'll keep at it......

Butterfingers Vs. Bullet

That never happened, but something else that was wierd that
had to do with the goal keeper was when I had the ball one on
one and I did I move, the goalie put out his hands and tripped
me. A foul was called and the goalie got a red card! and i got a
penalty shot. But, the same goalie was still in net, no one
got ejected.

Hey this is a great thread... I haven't played FIFA2003 as much as I would have liked yet but I have to say its a major improvement despite the usual details that EA always screws up... It has some features from 99 (like stadiums, European Superleague, rest of the world teams etc.) which I liked a lot.

I'm finally getting the hang of this new gameplay and I'll have to try some of the stuff mentioned here!

I always have trouble trying to make long runs down the sideline... the player always loses control of the ball or runs out of bounds, anybody experience this?

And what is with the defensive players going AWOL when the AI moves toward your goal... the marking is terrible and they always want to run away from the bal instead of towards it to close down the attack! This is a frustrating thing as it seems sometimes you don't have a lot of control over your own players.

Anymore stuff to unlock? Do you have to win the tournaments on a specific level to unlock the stadiums?

other than the 2 stadiums, there is nothin' else to unlock,so there is no need to torture yourself with the tournaments!

I run out of bounds sometimes too, nothing to do about it! The best is to stop sometimes and turn the opposite direction to prevent the defender from taking the ball from you

Gripe list

OK... here is my PS2 gripe list, much of which is mentioned in this thread (thanks for the tips guys):

- Noone really seems to know how to use the freestyle feature- yes, you can shimmy and move the ball ahead, an occational (random?) special move for some players, but none of this is very good at faking-out an opponent (especially at higher levels, you don't have time anyhoo- the computer players have vacuum cleaners on their feet).

- No spin. It was mentioned here that scoring would be too high with spin. But so what, make the goalie smarter or something. I never shot or passed without spin in FIFA2002, it added alot to the game. Now my fingers still reach for the L2/R2 buttons, and it doesn't do anything.... grrrr.

- Shooting. I agree, it's almost totally random... you have to just shoot towards the goal and the computer does the rest it seems... yes, you can dink it and shoot hard, but that's it. If anyone remembers the FIFA for the 3DO, you used to be able to hit the shoot button, then, say, press down-right for the lower-right corner of the net. Combined with the spin (above) and the power meter, and so long as you didn't overpower or the shot wasn't too hard- you could ACTUALLY PLACE the ball exactly where you wanted it to go... very satisfying...
Instead, if you were left of the goal and you pressed left (meaning left side of the net) when shooting the kicker will shoot away from the goal... that's just retarded! Noone shooting would miss that bad!

If they fixed these things I'd kiss EA...

PS. BTW, this is a great game, great improvement. As mentioned by someone earlier, this is a great engine/base to build on... now all that EA has to do is properly FINISH the next version, taking the best from all other versions (aaaall the way back, every platform), and they'd have the best soccer game ever (well, they still do)...

One last thing...

- The freecam replay. Where did the freecam zoom in/out, spinout, etc replay feature go... major step backwards. How can I see my awesome moves in detail slow-motion without it...

Dang that sucks...

I'm done bitchin', back to playin'
