I've recently gotten into cooking (haven't cooked ever previously), it's become something of an obsession, and I have a lot of ground to cover since I was, and am still am, a picky eater and there's a lot I won't eat, but I'm now trying to taste everything once, so I alteast know the flavors.

So, here's a thread to discuss food and cooking. And Top Chef, because it rules.

First off, I want to share one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten in. It's in Spanish, but a picture is worth a thousand words, and here's what the food looks like: http://www.samsha.es/galeria.php?mn=plato

For those not able to click a link, here's some samples (I can vouch for this food's tastiness):

Anyone coming to Valencia, contact me and I'll let you treat me to a dinner here.

Now, I might be put in charge of the Seder this year, which is basically a big dinner in the Jewish calendar. I'll be in charge of 3 desserts, 1 meat, 1 fish and 1 vegetarian dish. I was thinking about doing a ceviche for the fish, stuffed eggplant for the vegetarian and I dunno what for the meat. Any ideas/tips?

Note that I can't use any chametz or leavening because of the holiday, so from what I was told, I can't use pasta, rice, bread, etc.

I'm a much more functional cooker than an artist, but I have always enjoyed a lot of the shows on the Food Network. Sadly it's responsible for the repulsive fatness of Rachel Ray who used to be cute, and the Medusaesque Paula Deen.

Always loved cooking. I don't really cook any artsy stuff, either, but I really like playing with flavors and coming up with new things (well, new for me). As I'm a student, a lot of my cooking is noodles and pasta.

I love cooking Italian and Thai dishes. A well as really homely British/German/American sorts of foods.

But I really love making fresh pasta, and a ragu (or carbonara) to go with it. Home made pizza (base and all) and Thai soups, Curries and noodle dishes. Love experimenting too. My girlfriend loves my chilli mince (for burritos or tacos) and chilli chicken too.

I didn't think any of it looked particularly appetising either

I was showing it because I thought it looked nice, not because it looks tasty (although they're all very tasty). Feel free to check out the link, there's lots of other dishes which might be more appealing. In general, the chef tries to make the food look as artistic as possible.

And the tower of stones is 4 different, rare chocolates, with the richest one at the top and the smoothest at the bottom, on, if I recall correctly, toffee and pineapple sand. He has much better desserts, but I just thought that looks cool.

That doesn't look cool, it looks like a turd. If it's tasty or not is something I have no idea, although I'm sure it is.

I dunno, I've eaten it twice, and that's the first time I've heard it likened to a turd. Maybe because my first impression of seeing it in person makes the difference.

Pizza, kebab, makkaraperunat (Finnish classic from the hot dog stand, french fries, fried sausage pieces, condiments). Obviously steaks etc also taste great wasted, but you rarely go for that sort of stuff in that state. Barbeque is also nice. Like last summer, 2 days at a summer cottage. Grilling sausages, chicken, pork, etc, some salads, and drinking for 2 days. Going to the sauna, swimming in the sea, drinking, having fun, and grilling some more whenever we got hungry again.
