Im sure most ppl would disagree but do you think MLS Clubs should be playing in the Libertadores? I think they will at some point in the future, after all, Mexican clubs play in it, so why not US clubs if they ever begin to reach the level of talent as good as the other clubs playing in the competition?

Yeah, gladly the 8 groups of 4 formula is back. Last year's was really weird. But to hold the 36 teams there will be a qualifying, the Pre-Libertadores.

The MLS teams aren't in the Libertadores cuz they don't want to. They were invited twice I guess and they refused (at least that's what I heard).

EDIT: Yeah, it would be nice if Libertadores matches were aired in english language channels.

My thoughts on Copa Liberadores:

Arent they going to have some kind of playoff for the spots in Mexico?

They did that last year, i rememebr cause they showed the games on FSW

On another note, I wish FSW would show libertadores games
Fox Sports en Espanyol shows them, why no a Fox channel in English

First off, yes, there will be a playoff between 8 Mexican clubs early in January called the Interliga to determine the two other clubs who will play in the Libertadores. Second, yes, the returned to the format of 8 groups of four (look at the first post ;) ). And about MLS teams playing in the Libertadores, I really doubt it will ever happen and if it does happen, it will be very complicated due to travel times and so on.

I don't think so. For a team that goes from Uruguay to Mexico to play, it doesn't make much of a difference to go a little further.

But lets say that Boca or River have to play the Metrostars or the Revolution, traveling from Buenos Aires all the way to the Northeast is a pretty lengthy trip. I'm just saying that it would make traveling difficult, that's probably the only problem. They would find a way to deal with it though.

Anyways, it'd be really hard to get them a spot now. What country would agree to lose a spot? Besides, there's no way to increase the number of teams.

I believe some southamericans (almost all southamerican friends of mine) are already mad enough, at having just the mexican teams. I couldn't predict what would happen if MLS teams we're allowed....:o

Then, there's the competition issue. Are MLS teams ready to take on this type of championship yet? Mexican squads have alot of reserves(some from 2nd division teams), and even with that they actually borrow players from other teams when playing libertadores, so they can atleast manage to be competitive to the southamericans.

I'm no saying they're aren't good enough, just give them alittle time, let the MLS develope a little more.

;)

Well , Pachuca will be Mexico 1, and will play its first game against Boca Juniors.

Damn, the CBF will name the brazilian teams for the spots randomly (the qualifyed teams of course) . It's not fair, Brasil 1 should be the spot for the champions...

Unfortunately, money talks, $hit walks.
Brazilians should be used to this by now when it comes to their futbol. It's a shame, but thats the sad reality.

Wow, and Brazil will send a team from the lower divisions, its name is Sao Andre ... i guess :p ... but well they deserve those 5 teams, because they are BRASIL, u know.

And about Pachuca, its cool because another mexican team would be harder than Pachuca :D

This new formula about previous matches before the Cup seems like a copy of the Champions League formula ... :p

The CBF indicated Santo André as Brasil 1... The champions will be Brasil 2, the runners-up Brasil 3 and so on.

I heard they indicated the teams like that to avoid 2 big teams in the same group. :o

Yeah, it sucks to have a Série B team in the Libertadores, but well, they won the Copa do Brasil, they earned their spot.

by this logic the Copa do Brasil is most important than the League? always strange things in brazilian football

in europe the cup winner even get a CL spot. they play in uefa cup

Yeah. That's why I thought Brasil 1 would be the spot for the champions.

Maybe if there wasn't the possibility of 2 big teams in the same group they'd do things right.

I don't like this new rule, Id rather have the old penalty system.

Chivas Guadalajara (MEX) vs. Cienciano (PER)

I am really looking forward to this match. I heard Chivas wanted to pay Cienciano to not play their home game in Cuzco but in Los Angelas.
