The Kop Kid

Senior Squad
Full Name: Luis Javier García Sanz
Place of Birth: Badalona (Barcelona - Spain)
Date of Birth: 24 June 1978
Height: 177 cm (5-10)
Weight: 67 kg (148)
Debut: 18 August 1998

Biography

Luis came up through the FC Barcelona youth teams but has had a tough path back to the Club. After two seasons with the reserves, 1997-98 and 1998-99, he was transferred with a buy-back clause to Valladolid who loaned him on to Toledo, then in Second A. There followed another deal (2000-01) to Tenerife, where he made a vital contribution to their promotion campaign, playing 40 games and scoring 16 goals. Returning to Valladolid he played 27 games and scored 8 goals.

In the summer of 2002 he returned to FC Barcelona who sold him to Atlético de Madrid, but again with a buy-back option. He played 25 games, 22 of them in the starting line-up, totalling 1.523 minutes and 6 goals.

After his fine season with Atlético de Madrid, the Club decided to exercise the buy-back clause.

Other Stuff

He is mainly a left footer, but can be played on the right side where he is apparently good at cutting in etc.

He is reasonably quick

He has played under Benitez for a season before, whilst on loan!

Michael Owen to Real Madrid Shock Move Shocker Shock...

The long-running saga involving Michael Owen's protracted move to Real Madrid's Geriatrico's could be finally sorted and a deal agreed as early as Saturday... the 14th of August 2005.

Reports eminating from Spain's two most popular newspapers 'The Bullfight' and 'The Undercooked Squid Gazzette' claim that an offer of around £20'000m plus Steven Gerrard and Sami Hyypia has tempted Rafael Benitez into selling. This comes, even though a deal is yet to be agreed for Steven Gerrard, they want to sell him back to Arsenal.

Real Madrid's President Rosie Perez who is personally responsible for the ongoing talks has screeched: "Owen is a player I am interested in, and who I want to buy. He wants to come to Madrid, 'cos every player does, 'cos we're great, even though we haven't won anything for a while, innit..."

An initial offer of £100 for Owen was rebuffed by the Merseysiders, as they called Madrid's bluff and asked for it up front. Sadly, the Spanish, silverwareless giants asked if they could pay it in installments over 20 weeks, claiming: "...that's what our catalogue people do for our kits..."

One or two 'minor details' still need to be ironed out such as Liverpool don't want to sell Owen and he doesn't want a move away from Anfield, and Real Madrid can't afford him, but this is expected to sorted in the following 11 and a half months...

Liverpool Football Club's Manager, Sir Rafael Benitez said: "I have done all I can, I am sick and tired [of this] I want it sorted by Saturday the 14th of August 2005, before next season starts..."

Zinedine Zidane said: "It's nothing to do with me..." and David Beckham said: "er... you know, if he wants to come, then er... you know, thats er... great..." and Ryan Giggs said: "liverpool are rubbish, man united are best!"

Watch this space... or not.

Liverpool striker Michael Owen will join Real Madrid in an £8m plus player deal according to a source close to the club, BBC Five Live has reported.
As well as the fee, it is believed Liverpool will also receive right-sided midfielder Carlos Nunez.

So far there has no been no official confirmation from either club.

Owen was expected to move to Real after being left on the bench for Liverpool's Champions League game against Graz AK on Tuesday so as not to be cup-tied.

With just one year left on his Liverpool contract, Owen would be able to leave the club he has been at since he was 11-years-old for free at the end of the season.

While the 24-year-old striker has always insisted he would not allow that to happen, it appears the Anfield bosses have decided to ensure they cash in.

And if Owen does unite with England captain David Beckham at Real, the transfer fee could help fund Liverpool's interest in midfielder Xabi Alonso.

The Real Sociedad player is valued at around £10.7m and is viewed as a replacement for Danny Murphy, who has joined Charlton.

i agree Juanfran looks real good you should take him instead of Nuñez. Juanfran just led Spain U-19 to an European Championship.

Oh boy... first it was 10M plus Morientes or Eto'o, now 8M + Nunez (who I've never heard of)
Owen is one of my fav players, and if he does go I wish him well at Madrid, though I think he's not better than the strikers they already have and will be benched....

Carlos Nunez?? who the hell is he?!?!
if Owen goes;we have to find another striker then;i think Mellor has been loaned isn't it;so we need to buy another one :(.

Nuñez is not that bad. I actually think he is ok. Juanfran is all media hype after playing with the national under-something team, but he has done zero with Real Madrid first team.
I read somewhere you needed a right wing, Nuñez can be fine.

BENITEZ: OWEN IS MADRID BOUND
Paul Eaton 13 August 2004
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has conceded defeat in his bid to keep Michael Owen at Anfield.
Owen looks set to sign for Spanish giants Real Madrid after the Reds failed to persuade him to sign a new contract.

Liverpool expect to receive a cash sum plus Madrid's right sided midfielder Antonio Nunez as part of the deal.

"Contracts have not yet been finalised. Michael will have a medical with Madrid before the deal is completed and the same with Nunez. It should be concluded soon," said Benitez.

"I was very happy with Michael and I wanted him to stay. The problem was he only had a year left on his contract. Real Madrid started talking with his agent and in the end it was an impossible situation to control.

"The money from his sale will be used to balance the team. We still have good forwards here and a good team. We did our best to keep him but, as I say, in the end it was a difficult situation for us.

"The most important thing for us now is tomorrow's match and I hope the supporters will be happy with the team come the end of the season."

25 year old midfielder Antonio Nunez is expected to arrive at Anfield as part of the deal after he completes a medical.

His agent, Martin Perton, said: "Yes, it's true, we are talking to Liverpool. It's going really well and we hope to have the deal closed in a few hours.

"Even if Owen hadn't happened we were pushing for a move. We have been talking with Benitez for quite a long time, for around a month.

"The inclusion in the deal for Michael Owen has only just come in now."
=====

So it's Owen who wanted to go.

8 ******* million. Ridiculous. I wanted Owen to leave, but not for 8 ******* milion. Brummy paid 6.5m for HESKEY. What the ****.

And then we get some random Real wanted to force out. I trusted Rafa with all the Spanish players (Josemi, reported Luis Garcia, Angel, etc.) but this? :| I so hope I'm wrong but I don't see this guy making more impact then Traore

Owen is a twat for holding us out for so long. We could have gone for Kezman before. Perhaps we could have had Morientes as a part of this deal. But no. ****in wanker :sb9:

One week out and look at this. 8 million for Owen? You've gotta be kidding me. What a **** deal. We should sell him for 10-15 million, not 8. Plus who the hell is Nunez anyway...

On the other hand i'm pleased to see we signed (or almost) Luis Garcia, he's a good player, can play on both sides, just what we need atm.

so he's definetly gone... damn... I wish we could go and sign Rooney for half the amount they paid for Owen, and tell Madrid to stick Owen up their arses, but it won't happen...
I'm still gonna cry when I play FM'05 and don't see his name on the squad.....

YELLOW CARD - Sarcasm
Hes needed something to get his carear going, his past fews seasons have been lacklustre for someone of his quality. Good luck to him, wish we would have had more money for him though.

Seriously though, who the fuck is Nunez? I know someone said about him being the next Figo, but at 25 and hes still playing in the reserves at Real he can't be that good.

Starting XI
If Liverpool don't offer a great contract to Luis Garcia he's staying because he's happy at Barcelona. ATM he has said to Txiki that he won't leave.

btw: why isn't a new Liverpool 2004/2005 thread?
