anyway , one news Steven Gerrard has revealed that he had the chance to sign for Manchester United as a youngster. The Liverpool skipper discloses in his autobiography that United, the club he had always been conditioned to hate, offered him a professional contract before his beloved Reds came in for him. He stressed that he never considered penning a deal with United, but admitted that it was a great boost of confidence to be told that Sir Alex Ferguson was a fan. “I wore the red of United in two trial games,” Gerrard said in his book, published by the News of the World. “After doing well in those games United offered me a three-year pro contract. “I even met their legendary manager. A group of trialists had dinner with Mr Ferguson, as he was then. Michael Owen was meant to be at the meal, but didn’t turn up. “We sat and listened in awe to one of the managerial greats. He had heard about me and desperately wanted me to sign, but I was never going to sign for United. Your thoughts please ....

imagine him wearing the united shirt now

Fantastic start to the campaign. Rooney and Ronny looked on fire and Saha sharp. Evra really impressed me today, looked like a completely different player to the blundering fool of last season. Plus the Arsenal and Liverpool both dropped points yesterday (and Spurs)

Such a shame that Barwick's FA have robbed us of Scholesy and Wayne for the next two weeks, as well as letting Brown nearly snap Giggsy's shin in half.

Still Michael Carrick is due back for Saturday - so theres a plus.

Vintage United performance...but we tend to slow the tempo and switch off now and then. Saha ROoney Ronaldo and Evra were superb. But still our midfield looks so mediocre..against the big teams we are sure to struggle. Great start...ronaldo should have scored at least 2

Help?

5-1, now that's an opening day performance. And that was without Carrick. Haven't seen them game, but i hear it was amazing, can't wait for highlites.

How did our midfield do?

And yeah, United does tend to slow down and **** some things up for their 2nd and 3rd games over the years and the fact that we will be without Rooney and Scholes does not make it any better. At least Saha and Ronaldo are on form :rockman:

Great start and d3adly i would not start a debate against brining Mascherano to United, i would just argue that i would rather have Vieira, but Mascherano would be an amazing signing as well.

yeah i thought evra was good...just needs to cut out some of those stupid passes!
but all around very good....god damn! 2-0 chelsea

Finished 3-0. Still we're up there, maximum points from first game so thats all we can do.

Incidentally Owen Hargreaves is not in Bayern Munich's squad for the Bundesliga game today. Could be them laying down the law to him or maybe something else is going on. I know United are still pursuing him, Sir Alex said so after the game.

Well at least we'll be coming up against the likes of Charlton and Watford, and Spurs haven't really impressed AS YET. It could be worse. I think a combination of Giggs and O'Shea in the middle could take us through it, it's the same combination that won us a lot of games last season.

Giggs may be out for Wednesday, Sir Alex said he's got an injury as a result of the assault by Michael Brown - fitness test tomorrow.

god browns tackle was disgusting, yellow card? come on? he almost snapped giggs leg in two....he really lunged for him when he came sliding in

It wasn't so much a sliding tackle as an actual jumping/stamping with both feet on Giggs' leg - there was absolutely no move made towards the ball. It's similar to what Ian Wright did to Peter Schmeichel a few years ago at Highbury. I bet the FA will take no action "because the referee sanctioned Brown during the match" I just find myself wondering if Giggs had stamped on Brown's leg in the same way would he get off so lightly? And would the FA impose further sanctions?

They talk about trying to clean the game up and this is the perfect example to use - Michael Brown should be charged by the FA for what is basically an attempt to cause deliberate injury to an opponent. Ryan Giggs was lucky he could still walk after that.

I agree it's a bloody disgrace, just seen the match and the blatant foul on Giggsy unbelievable that there is no action taken.
What a game, in no time at all it was 4-0 and Rooney scoring twice promises something for this season but the ban casts a shadow on all this. I'm ashamed that our football association (KNVB) reported them to the FA after a tournament. These kind of games should be watched seperately and shouldn't have any effect on domestic games :nape: :kader:

Just watched another game on MUTV btw ;)
ManUtd vs WestBrom in 2002 with Laurent Leblanc, Keano, Becks, Butt, Phill Neville and Ruud, the whole game was broadcasted on MUTV like they do many times with games from the past.

I also watched Chelsea vs City today and they didn't impress me at all, I think if United keeps winning games that it could be a great season cause Chelsea didn't played as good as the men in red/white today (Y)
