Am I the only one noticing Tiago (from Chelsea) wasn't called? Wonder why...

Hey, I'd take H. Almeida over Portiga any day. And I'd take Derlei over the both of them any day too, but only when either Nuno Gomes or Pauleta were injured or out-of-form (which is most of the time anyway).

an on form Derlei sh*ts all over Pauleta, Nuno Gomes, Postiga, Hugo Almeida and whoever.

He hasn't been on form since the beginning of last season though, and he's getting old.

But he'd offer to the team something that we don't have at all in the attack, fighting spirit and power.

btw I think Tiago wasn't called because he pretty much has been sh*te in the national team. I don't know if It's Mourinho instructions to preserve himself but he doesn't put much effort when he's playing for the NT unlike when playing for Chelsea.

Even if Maniche is recovered I still think that Manuel Fernandes should be kept in the squad. He's the best portuguese holding midfielder at the moment and he's only 19.

Ricardo over and over again on the squad.
He must be sucking Scolari's d'ck on a daily basis, why can't the old man just realize he doesn't belong there :f***:

And this Postiga call...
OMFG, I have no words to describe the depth of Scolari's lack of talent to coach our NT.

Manuel Fernandes has been deserving a chance for some time now...
About João Tomás being talented enough to play for the NT..allow me laugh out loud :p, he is such a sh't player...
And I would not call Derlei as I don't think he could solve our attacking problems.
I think the solution there would come through calling the youth (yeah, H. Almeida would be fine by me) as soon as possible, giving them a chance to settle down in the squad instead of waiting for some good striker to come out of nowhere when he's 28 years old, or giving a chance to a kid and never call him up again in the near future if he happens not to perform well enough on that game.
That is just stupid IMO, they need chanceS, not a single chance to prove what they are worth.

Scolari sucks :(

Soon or late, Mourinho will be in charge for Portugal NT. It's very likely this will happen. My only reason is that Mourinho has success European history with FC Porto & now with Chelsea in EPL.

Apart from Mourinho, I don't think anyone could do this job better than Scolari has been doing... Who would you prefer? António Oliveira? Toni? Fernando Santos? José Romão? Manuel José? HELL NO, thanks!

I think many people are being extremely unfair with him. Yeah, he sucks at choosing the players (as Punkt said, he seems to always call the same, regardless of form), but he's almost unique at motivating the players and making them work hard, something I don't remember ANY former Portuguese NT coach doing.

And about Scolari going to the office for 3 hours a day, the truth is that he doesn't need to do that! He can perfectly do the job at home, so I don't criticize him at all for that. And, like he mentioned, if you criticize him for going there for a small amount of time, what to say about our previous coaches???

Now that Porto team is destroyed (i mean that midfield of last year that dominated the Champs league and the Euro 2004), let's just see what Scolari can do with a team on his own.
Now he really has to instruct players on his own and not rely on what they do on their teams.

I think you all understand my point here...

I liked Humberto Coelho very much, he did a great job and put us playing the best football I ever seen from a portuguese team even if we lost in the semis to France. If you compare the french and the portuguese teams of 2000 in terms of player quality you see they had a much better team than us especially in the defence. Even so that game was one of the closest and best games I've ever saw in terms of footballing quality.

That's why I'd like Humberto Coelho back to the NT

Humberto Coelho is a very mediocre coach. The reason why we played so well in the Euro 2000 had few to do with him and a lot to do with our players, our "golden generation" that was at their top back then and was highly routined in playing together.

I think Humberto Coelho's career as a coach speaks for itself, both before and after coaching the Portuguese NT. Before, he only coached small teams and with no success. After, he coached 2 (I think) NT's, Morocco and Korea, and he totally failed with both...

Don't know how anyone can compare a coach like him (or most of the Portuguese ones) to Scolari... Scolari is a man with loads and loads of experience and trophies, mostly with teams that hadn't many stars but rather relied on their combativity and team play. While I know it's true that it is quite different training the Portuguese NT or a Brazilian club or NT, it seems ridiculous doubting of his competence, even more after the great job that he did in Euro 2004.

And while it's also true that Mourinho had also a part in our success in Euro 2004 because of Porto's midifield routine (but it's also hilarious saying that the tactics and instructions were only Mourinho's, cause I don't think Miguel, Jorge Andrade, Figo, Ronaldo or Pauleta/Nuno Gomes were from Porto and I also don't remember Porto playing with wingers...), I don't think he had anything at all to do with recent games like the one against Russia... Or did he?
