yeah, Pauleta's no help to the NT anymore I'm sorry to say.. even with his experience he doesn't seem to contribute anything anymore. I wouldn't mind seeing some younger guys get their chance like Vaz Te for example.
or..what do u guys think of playing Figo and Simao on the wings, and having C. Ronaldo play in a striker position?? He definatly has all the skills and ability for it, plus some height, which is pretty rare for a Portuguese forward..

-Vince-, no one knows what's going on with him except for the people inside Porto. He seems to be having some kind of disagreement with the board about some undisclosed matter and till it is solved he won't play.
Adriaanse likes him as a player though, so he should have no problems regaining his starting place for Porto and the NT in the near future.

No doubt Ronaldo has all the skills necessary to be a dangerous player in every place of the attack, but his damage on the wings is massive and I wouldn't trade it for the eventual success he could have playing as a striker.
I can't believe how you guys are yet again bitching about Scolari's decisions. You do know this is a meaningless friendly, right? What better time to try out a few players and let others rest. The players you guys are complaining about will have an opportunity to prove their worth. I'm pulling for Moutinho and Quaresma to put in a good performance.

This is a soccer forum m8, we are supposed to discuss different points of view about the clubs/NTs we support.
Friendlies are useful to give us an idea of what the team can do, and I find it normal that after seeing some players who do not deserve to be called up present on Scolari's list over and over and playing like sh't, people get pissed over it.
Results matter the most, but everyone has his own preferences when it comes to the players that are chosen by the coach....
When we don't like them, we b'tch about it! That's the beauty of the all thing dude :sun:

The first goal he scored against Newcastle in the intertoto was amazing, especially for a central defender Massive i agree with u that the 4 CB called are better (well Meira isn't that better) but like Nuno said this is a game to try and watch new players so i think Rocha call would be a good chance to see how he plays in the NT (he don't get a call since Italy-Portugal friendly almost 2 years ago).

Ricardo Rocha? This has no relevance and is a secondary problem. What good can we possibily get from calling Ricardo Rocha? We already have a stable CB duo in Carvalho and Andrade. I personally think that Meira gives us far more guarantees than Rocha and we can adapt him to the midfield so he is a more useful and experienced player (his performance against Slovakia, where he scored, convinced me). This discussion doesnt have any importance. What we should be discussing is the criteria behind calling up Hugo Viana or the merits of having Ricardo in goal when Quim had a far better season. Or discussing why Scolari isn´t calling and testing new names for our striker position since Pauleta is no longer the player he used to be. This is our biggest problem. If we look at our team, we have two big problems. Our goalkeeper (that is a non issue since Scolari made up his mind and keeps gambling with his or our luck by playing Ricardo) and our striker position. Ronaldo is not the answer. He should stay where he is, where he has impact. He has been performing excellently scoring and assisting so why should we move him? If you want to put Simão in, just put Figo who doesn´t have the same explosion power as a winger, as an organizer, supporting our striker. I think he can enlarge his influence there. With this we would have Simão on the left, Figo in the middle and Ronaldo in the right.
About the striker discussion we can say that one year away from the Germany Wc, we are basically in a standstill and have no real prospects for our near future. Vaz Tê is too inexperienced for an WC and Hugo Almeida who will struggle in Porto yet again (unless he explodes as a player and grabs his place) aren´t ready yet. Which leaves us with Postiga (currently being used by Adriaanse in a supporter role) and Nuno Gomes (who will always be in my heart and have my utmost respect for scoring and eliminating the Spaniards but isn´t performing), who are obviously experiencing a bad phase in their respective careers (although Postiga is more motivated and appears to have Adriaanse trust). So we are stuck yet again with Pauleta, who will start in the Wc, put on some Euro2004 tm performances, miss a couple of flagrant chances and become the perfect scapegoat alongside Ricardo. This is where the real discussion lies not in what should be our 3rd or 4th string choice for our CB positions.

Heck, I also rate Carlos very high... A call up to a friendly game would be deserved IMO.
And I still don't get it... why did we get Sonkaya, with nelson just a few Km's from our stadium?
