The linesman should have dragged him back off and the ref should have give him a red card for what he did. I won't try and defend what Reyes did, because it was cheap, but Real could have been sportsmen and put the ball out of play. Off the field or not, he still may have been injured. And it's not like Madrid didn't bitch or whine or push or shove themselves. In fact, Reyes got the shit kicked out of him for most of the game, because Cicinho simply couldn't handle him.
Now, about the match. I'm incredibly proud of every one who played in an Arsenal shirt tonight. Eboue and Reyes were men of the match for me. Reyes absolutley owned the right back and Eboue rendered the left side of Madrid's attack essentially useless (with some help from Toure). Freddie put in a great performance, Thierry scored when we needed him to most, Gilberto didn't look quite so crap, and Hleb played pretty well, too. All around, a great showing by the Gunners, and today I am truly proud to call myself an Arsenal fan. For now, I'm just going to enjoy this, and I'll start worrying about the second leg in about 10 days.
And as a final note, to those who said Arsenal had no chance...

the only danger from real was Beckham. toure and eboue were unbelievable. reyes owned ciccino, fabregas was brilliant. reyes should be banned for his antics. i couldn't believe the cheek of the arsenal players wanting real to kick the ball out of play when he went down injured, realising they wouldnt, reyes crawls back on to the pitch.

It's not cheek. To me at least, it's an accepted practice in football to put the ball out of play, whenever and wherever a player is injured. I hate it whenever teams play on when a man is down, even when it's their own. Again, I am not excusing Reyes for crawling back onto the field.Seán Denny said:

This is stupid to keep arguing about. You guys have differing opinions, and that's fine. I just think play should be stopped, whenever a player goes down injured, even if he's off the field. I guess, to me, it's a sign of respect to the player that is injured to stop play to treat him.
he left the field of play, what was stopping the physio going around to him? why waste minutes of play? and when the ball did go out, reyes got straight up and started crying at the madrid players. even when Arse got the ball back the didn't intentionally kick it out. im all for kicking the ball out for injuries, but if the player lands off the pitch and rolls back on to stop an attack, that is cheating and he should be sent off. if arsenal were on the attack he'd be straight up and looking for the ball.bjmenge said:
