Russia on the other hand, just like with CSKA before, cleared Zenit's schedule to allow them to be fresh. Rangers had no such luxury and had to play a battling Dundee United 3 days before the final.

Rangers did deserve to be there though. They had their plan and it worked until someone was able to come up with something better. If teams put bullsh*t "beautiful football" principles above being up for the fight and winning then that's their problem.
