I'll admit I watch that for reality show purposes, real UFC card fights are waaay better.

BTW the last UFC (78) really sucked. I'm glad to see Houston Alexandre finally be tested, but other than that it was long boring wrestling fights.

^^hurhurhur....I hope you took that line in jest, bro, because i didn't mean anything by it. It's just a rude introduction for all MMA fans who are perceived to have latched onto the show after being exposed to the Ultimate Fighter.

I didn't get to see 78, and to be honest, I haven't watched much MMA in full-length ever since Pride was swallowed up, but I have been checking into TUF from time to time.

Who's your favorite fighter from the show? Don't say Mac, or I swear I'll cut you, man.

Well I first got into UFC through the 1hr fight show they had on Spike, then go into TUF, its the other way around. Are you one of the Sherdogers?

Favorite from the show is in this order

Shifty (crazy Barrera) - I like his relentless work ethic
George - I like his confidence, serious attitude and skill
Mac - He's one of the cooler guys on the show. No problem with his views on food/animals. And I believe the camera just focused on him alot and he had a problem with non-serious fighters which I agree with.

Most of the rest are jokes. Pussies.

The coaches are douches pretty much (like Serra more), I downloaded TUF5 to see it again and Penn/Pulver were awesome. Many more cool fighters in there too. This season is pretty lame.

1)Cool, bro, cool. I haven't been an active member of Sherdog for quite a while now, maybe like 2-3yrs. It just became a ******* hassle and over-run with intolerable ****heads after a while, but it's still alright to a degree, I suppose. I tune into the radio broadcasts whenever it comes to my mind or when some huge fight has occurred.

2) I pretty much agree with your sentiments and assessment of the series/fighters. I think that I'm only up to ep 6, or 7...maybe 8??...I can't remember. I'll try to make the time for the other two (10 being the last?) this weekend so that I can be fully caught up with the show.

peep this....

You seem very enthusiastic about the sport of MMA, so I'm gonna recommend to you (maybe you already know about it, my bad if that's the case) one of my favorite sites in all of internetdom......http://genghiscon.wordpress.com/

As the name suggests, it's by a dude who calls himself GenghisCon (clever?) Anyway, this ****er probably makes the best compilations of anyone or any sport that I've ever come across, man. I don't know if he's a professional, but his work is just masterful. You could despise the sport and still be enthralled and captivated by his pieces, man. And also, it's an excellent way to familiarize yourself with the sport's not to distant past if you're just getting into it, you know?

Anyway, give those links a peep, bro.

oh btw, if you can get a hold of this doc.........http://www.docurama.com/productdetail.html?productid=NV-NVG-5606-NVG-9544, do it, bro.

nice post yoss, i'm definitly going to check out that ghenghis con website, it seems packed with good videos.

yeah I'm really into it, its debatebly my favorite sport... i'm signing up for boxing soon too at my local gym (already doing cardio and weight training for a year).

Do you have any favorite fighters? I like Sean Seark just because of his massive work ethic, he's the best at muscle AND cardio which is a rare combination, I watched him training on a show and he's insane... you should download it via torrent. Apparently he takes steroids tho, and I think he's temporarly banned. I also like Houston Alexander (altough he is pretty new) for his awesome stand up. Nick Diaz and Diego Sanchez are pretty good. I only recently saw videos of Fedor and he's amazing (but everyone hypes him up so much). Oh and I forgot the best I've seen, Anderson Silva, just pure negro dynatism as you say. Skinny ****ed but has the most accurate knees I've ever seen... straight to the head. Great accuracy in his strikes too. His 2 Franklin fights were really entertaining and a demolition.

Sherdog is alright, it contains alot of dumbasses but I full whole-heartly accept that on the internet these days. I think its due to the many posts/minute.

I hate Sherk and all fighters like him... you know, the roided up mid-western American wrestler who's borring as f*ck to watch.

I like Houston Alexander too, but I wouldn't say he's got great stand-up at all, just a lot of overwhelming power. The first time I ever saw him fight in his UFC debut he totally reminded me of the early days of MMA. He fights kinda like how Tank Abbott used to when he was younger, just relentless all-out power. Too bad Alexander's non-existant ground game was exposed recently, I had high hopes for him but after his last fight I came to the realization that he would probably be killed by guys like Wanderlei and Shogun. Not to mention the fact that even someone like Tito Ortiz would be able to hold him down with ease.

Anderson Silva's one of my faves too, the guy is a walking highlight reel. Not only does he KO motherf*ckers, but always does it in spectacular style. Look for a video of Anderson Silva vs. Tony Fryklund from a Cage Rage show, he KO's him with a really weird elbow strike. Another guy you should check out is Cung Le from the Strikeforce org, he's got some insane stand-up too.

I stopped posting at Sherdog too like 2 years ago, it's still a good spot to go for MMA news and rumours. I just kinda lurk there now. MMAjunkie.com and MMAweekly.com are always good for the latest news too.

On another note, the UFC has signed Thierry Rameau Sokoujou! ..and he's shceduled to fight Machida at UFC 79! It's such an intrigueing match on paper, can't wait to see it.

EDIT: I almost forgot, this is probably my fave MMA site out there right now. TONS of videos there, basically you just have to click on a fighter on the right and you'll get at least a couple of his fights to watch. http://mmafightvideos.blogspot.com/

enjoy..

It's cool that you're taking up Boxing, bro, because it's an awesome discipline from which to start off with and then branch out of. It's ******* intense cardio-wise, and you'll start to sprout some muscle in places that you'd never imagine. You'll really do well and find it fun if you don't go in there with any ulterior motives other than just learning how to strike (trying to learn some moves to beat up some dude who's been hasslin' you, or to impress the bitches with your moves and **** would be silly and counterintuitive) Just go int there with a blank slate and no ego, bro, and learn.

Anyway. As far as favorite fighters go...hmm....****. Well, I don't know if I have a fixed top 5/10 or whatever, but I'll try to list some of 'em.

Bas Rutten- calling 'em a ******* legend would be an absolute understatement, man. Bas was a ******* menacing God in his day. One of the most punishing (if you're impressed with Silva's standup, check out Bas) fighters to ever enter the ring, man. He was versatile, he was intelligent and most of all, he was entertaining and highly charismatic. They don't come any tougher than Bas, man.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=UuC6Wj6ewiY

Sakuraba-another legend....the 'Gracie Killer" as he's known, for his famous and epic bouts with the Gracie clan. I love his demeanor, his all around skill both on the ground and standing up, and also his heart. Pride wasted this poor bastard and almost killed 'em by feeding him to guys a weight class or two bigger than him, but he never backed down from any fight or ducked anyone. The ****er just has no quit in 'em, he epitomizes the Bushido Code to the fullest.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V84_6McLQ3Y

^^ definitive example of Saku's never-say-die spirit...I hope that he calls it quits soon, though.

Genki Sudo- one of the funniest, most entertaining and amiable humans around, man. Aside from his renowned and elaborate entrances and heartfelt banner of the world that reads "We are all one", he's a very imaginative and flair-filled fighter. He could be phenomenally text-book on the ground, but he just laid it out there in the ring with his improvisational sense and combined so many disciplines effortlessly. He's like a Ronaldinho out there with his style and flash, man. It saddens me greatly that he's chosen to retire, man, because I really, really love 'em.

http://www.livevideo.com/media/playvideo_fs.aspx?fs=1&cid=48645101330946CB92636C184961F238

^^ That vid always chokes (NO HOMO) me up, man.

So, those are probably my three favorite fighters of all time, but Big Nog (another legend with a heart of a lion), Frank Shamrock, Igor Vochanchyn, Mark Hunt, Overeem (looks like a character straight out of Street Fighter), and Gilbert 'Nofriendtotheref" Yvel are all fighters that I really love.

Oh yeah, Ricardo Arona and Shogun aswell......if you want to see someone who gave Fedor all that he could handle, someone who made him look almost human, then try to 'tube his fight with Arona. The fight was a long time ago when they were just starting out and the rules were different and restricting, but it's still a wicked match.....and trust me, Fedor is worthy of all the hype that he receives.

Ever since Pride was bought out, a ton of material on the net has been removed, but if you search hard enough, you'll still find a lot of gold **** that'll help you become more intimate with the sport, bro.

well, well. It looks like the increase in activity in the MMA thread has gotten Shinji out of his cocoon and lurking status...hurhur.

Good to have you back posting regularly (i hope), and thnx for that site, it's a ******* treasure trove of material, bro.

Ahh a true PRIDE fan in the house! I swear your favourite fighters list is pretty much identical to mine with maybe an exeption or two.. Bas, Sak, Sudo...man, I could watch those guys all day, every day. Legends..

If I had to make a list of faves, in no order here I'd have to include:

Takanori Gomi
Anderson Silva
Joachim Hansen
Mark Hunt
Wanderlei Silva
Shogun
Akihiro Gono
Big Nog
Cro Cop
both Emilianenko's

sh!t I used to even love guys like Gary Goodridge and Heath Herring!

I like a lot of K-1 guys too... Mighty Mo, Kaoklai, Massato, LeBanner..

nice list, bro. Lebanner....whenever I try to imagine what a Legionnaire might really be like, he's the first thing that pops into my head, man. What a devastatingly destructive war machine....that left....WOOF! His left could trigger earthquakes, this I'm sure of. I didn't enjoy watchin' 'em KO Hoost, though, as Hoost is also one of my favs.

Good pickin' with Gono and Gomi, bro. Gono is a masterful submission artist so I don't know if the UFC is gonna handle him with the care and sensitivity necessary to make him a star over here. They really need to build him up to the general fan because relegating him to just the Prelims will be an absolute travesty. Also, let the ****er wear his technicolor pants, man....wtf? All these NSAC rules, man....they're just dumb.

Gomi is atypical to your standard Asian fighter, eh? The dude is out of this world cocky. He's got a snarl and a swagger to 'em, and you know what, most of the time, he backs it up. The kid is a true brawler, man. I really love his tenacity and ferociousness....a true badass!

Yeah I have to admit, I'm not expecting much from the UFC on their handling/marketing of Gono. It just doesn't seem like they have much interest in promoting Asian fighters, I just don't think the American audience really gets the showmanship of a guy like Gono. Even the couple times Sudo fought in the UFC, it seemed like his grand entrances and unorthodox style went unapprieciated.

I even read a rumour recently that they had offered Jon Fitch a fight with Gono which apparently Fitch's people declined, saying that they preffered a fight with Karo I think it was. I kinda interpret this as the UFC not thinking highly of Gono and already wanting to "feed" him to a contender. I dunno, I'm just speculating here..

Yeah, about Gomi... if you don't already own the Pride Bushido 9 DVD set, I highly recommend it! Some amazing fights on those discs and you definitely see Gomi at his best. I really think the UFC made a big mistake not even trying to sign Gomi, he'd be the guy American audiences would love to hate, yet they wouldn't be able to resist watching him fight. Apparently Dana White was even quoted at a press conference saying something like "We don't need Gomi, nobody knows who the f*ck he is" ...it's a shame man, I only hope he signs with K-1, EliteXC or something so we can see him fight again soon.

btw, you happen to catch Kimbo's MMA debut? haha what a farce, but I admit it.. I'm counting the minutes till his next bout!

EDIT: dunno if you guys got The Fight Network, but don't forget on Dec. 8 they're showing the 2007 K-1 World Grand Prix live, all the big names are gonna be there. Should be a hell of a tourney!

Indeed. As much as I despise some of the way the UFC handles its fighters and events, my gripes and complaints don't really mean **** if they continue to make money hand over fist as they're currently doing. Their dominance of the North American MMA scene is akin to that of the NFL's over other sports, man. This is why I really hope that K1-Heroes, or some other type of outfit starst making a stronger push in this market soon, or aleast develops something remotely akin to Pride back in Japan, man, because you're gonna start seeing a lot more fighters being marginalized, misused or even being completely ostracized. These bantam organizations that are currently operating don't impress me much both interms of roster and financial backing. I hope that they unite, or do something to put forth a respectable challenge against the UFC's strangle-hold on the industry, man.

Yeah, I don't own Bushido 9, or any MMA DVD for that matter, but I have seen it. That tournament was stacked from top to bottom and lived up to its hype, man. It's arguably the greatest (well, except for the open weights and Grand Prix 2000, I suppose) MMA event. It just sucked that Filho got injured. I don't know how that ****er made weight anyway, since I hear that his normal everyday weight is like 200, or slightly over. The Hansen/Yves fight was an epic match. Btw, where the **** is Yves these days? Another misused fighter of immense talent, man. Anyway, yeah, bro. All the Bushido tourneys are worth purchasing from my recollection.

thnx for the headsup, man. The Badr/Remy fight looks very intriguing. I'm surprised that Manhoef isn't repping. Is he solely concentrating on his MMA career now?

one more thing....nice link. It's much more celebratory and electrifying than the one I shared. That other tribute vid is more sombre and emotional....both awesome in their own right, though.

Hey, I forgot to respond to your Kimbo comment. I did see that fight, and as you've so aptly put it, it was a complete and utter farce. But I can't really blame EliteXC. They're just trying to milk this street fighting legend for all that he's worth, so they've gotta feed 'em a few jobbers before they put 'em up against legitimate fighters.

Saturday, 4:00 pm, The Fight Network. Does LeBanner look ripped or what, I think this might be his year... although, I would not complain over a Semmy-Techno Goliath match in the semis!

Apparently, Mighty Mo is also fighting in one of the reserve matches (hopefully it gets televised). The biggest, most devastating right-hand in all fight sports...I think yes.

I've just recently read that Mighty Mo's also scheduled to fight Kharitonov at the K-1 HERO's show on New Years Eve! The fight's gonna be under HERO's MMA rules too, should be a slugfest like no other.

I think Melvin's committed to the HERO's show on new years, although an opponent hasn't been named as far as I know.. yeah, that was a weird knock-down, in slo-mo it almost looked like Sefo's elbow caught him in the top of the head on one of those last couple punches.

I just love those Japanese ring announcers, no matter who they're introducing it always sounds like "HHHEEEYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHAAAAAAAHHHHH AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"

^^hurhur....too true! They must be paying a tribute to the Japanese God of the Scream, or something. Either way, it's ******* hilarious and electrifying, man.

anyway, regarding the Sefo knockout win...yeah, it doesn't look like a Kosher strike, most likely accidental, but nonetheless, it looks like a foul of some sort. See how he goes up to 'em in an apologetic wmanner after he's deemed the victor?
