It's Official: UFC 70 to air free on SpikeTV!
Not only is it free, but it just happens to be the best UFC fight card that I can remember. It is stacked from top to bottom and some potential upsets look likely..
Main card should look like this:
Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
Assuerio Silva vs. Cheick Congo
Andre Arlovski vs. Fabricio Werdum
Michael Bisping vs. Elvis Sinosic
Ryoto Machida vs. Forrest Griffin
I'm picking Werum to beat Arlovski and Machida to beat Griffin as likely upsets. Although anyone who has followed MMA for a while knows that Werdum and Machida are top class fighters, so maybe upset is the wrong choice of word here. Looking forward to seeing Congo fight again too, always exiting.
Since it's gonna be live from the UK, it'll be at an odd time here in North America. Probably something like 4:00 pm Eastern..
You think that Werdum is an underdog to Arlovski, bro? I realize that his standup needs considerable (getting that taken care of since he's been in CroCop's camp for the past year and a halfnow) improvement, but if he takes this to the ground, it's pretty much gonna be over imo.
I only recently found out that he switched to the UFC....wow. He was a top ten in Pride and a top 5-3 now in the UFC.

Yeah, that's kinda why I backtracked a little there... I guess it could be considered an upset if only because of Arlovski's "star" staus in the UFC and Werdum being a newcomer... but yeah, definitely not based on skill, you're right.
I'm looking forward to watching Machida's progress in the UFC, I definitely think he has what it takes to beat a Chuck Liddell or Rampage somewhere down the line. I was actually a little shocked that he didn't make it onto the main card in his UFC debut especially since he has wins over Rich Franklin and Stephan Bonnar in his past..

Yeah, I beleive he has some Japanese roots..
He's one of those guys who has everything exept for the hype, maybe things will change but he's one of those guys that has spent his career under the radar despite some impressive wins on his resume. I also like the fact that he's kinda remained true to his martial art, he still claims his main weapons are pure karate (I love this being a big K-1 fan too) despite having some BJJ training also. I dunno if you've seen this footage yet, but watch what he did to one of Dana White's poster boys a few years ago..

About that KO of Franklin, just before they engage and he catches Ace with the Knee, is there a headbutt in there somewhere that staggers Rich a little do you think? Or is it the short jab? Because he seems already dazed before he's hit with the knee.

Bah, Forrest Griffin's been taken off the UFC 70 fight card due to illness..
He's been replaced with David Heath. Might still be a good match as Heath's a heavy-hitter, and he'll also be defending an unblemished record..

Yeah, I've been hearing that rumour a lot lately too, and from actual credible sources this time! I guess there's supposed to be a big announcment tomorrow and there's a lot of speculation that's the big news..
I don't know what to think right now, can't say if I'll be happy about it or not. Monopolies are bad, but as a fan I can't help but get exited at the thought of seeing Wanderlei, Hunt, Fedor, etc in the UFC octagon. We'll have to wait and see..

It’s Official: PRIDE Fighting Championships Sold
It’s official: Japanese-based PRIDE Fighting Championships has been sold to Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta, owners of Zuffa LLC (the UFC’s parent company). The organization will be operated under the direction of Zuffa.
Effective April 8 (PRIDE’s next show), Dream Stage Entertainment and PRIDE CEO Nobuyuki Sakakibara will resign.
The Fertittas, with UFC president Dana White and matchmaker Joe Silva, made the announcement today at Tokyo’s Roppongi Hills Arena.
Lorenzo Fertitta promised that MMA fans will see the fights everyone wants, essentially promising that cross-promotion fights between UFC and PRIDE fighters will happen.
As previous reports stated, the purchase price for the fight organization was in the $65 million range. The company took a financial hit when Fuji Television Inc. dropped PRIDE from its broadcast schedule. (Tabloid news reported that PRIDE had connections to the Japanese mob, and though PRIDE denied the accusation, the damage was done.)
Well folks, this appears to be great news for UFC fans for no other reason that the promise of superfights between the UFC’s and PRIDE’s top stars.
Additionally, PRIDE fans should take solace in knowing the Fertittas have pledged to pump more money into the organization so that it can continue to grow internationally.

Also, it appears that Brandon Vera will stay with the UFC after all.. This is great news as I'm a big fan of his and think he's got a great future in MMA.

Im gonna laugh my ass off if Sinosic beats Bisping... this match is clearly a case of the UFC trying to feed Bisping a tomato can in front of his own fans. 6 years ago Sinosic might have had a chance, but I dunno, he does have some submission skills so who knows..
btw, UFC 69 is tomorrow and is anyone even pumped for it? GSP-Serra is such an anti-climax of a main event but you never know (still feel GSP deserved a true contender for an opponent). Sanchez-Koscheck should be a war, and I sincerely hope Kos gets owned... I don't care if Joe Rogan likes to talk about how much he's improved his stand-up and submissions, he's still borring-as-f*ck IMO. Okami-Swick should be entertaining too...but overall it's a pretty so-so card for a PPV.

Yeah, Sakuraba is still around. He's fighting with K-1 HERO'S these days..
He had A LOT of great matches in his career, he was the winner of some epic battles and also on the receiving end of some of the worst beatdowns ever in MMA (his first match against Wanderlei Silva comes to mind)
