WC 3rd Place Game Germany vs Portugal [P+R]

Just heard on the TV, Figo said that it was his last game on the NT. Thank you for everything, you carried our Nt on your back in the last decade. Since i never got to see Eusébio, it was the best portuguese player i ever saw. Put on some memorable performances, specially the one in the Euro2000 against England, one of the best individual performances i´ve ever seen from player. His career and the clubs he has represented speak for his quality.
Oh btw Pauleta also said that it was his last game for the NT. Although we appreciate your contribution in some matches, it was clear that he wasn´t the right solution for our NT. Good riddance.

That performance by Figo against England in Euro2000 was awesome, he'll be surely missed by the Portuguese NT and the International scene.

(He'll be also missed by my aunt who is obsessed by him, she likes neanderthal looking men :$)

Figo will be missed, some of my favourite Figo memories are from his Barcelona days. His skill was unbeleivably smooth back then, just amazing to watch in those days.

Pauleta I won't miss. He scored a lot of tap-ins in 5-0 games and was almost always a non-factor when it mattered.

Goodbye Olli :(

And it's pretty safe to say Klinsmann will stay. :bob:

Can't believe Figo didn't start. Unfortunate farewell for him.

Nice game by the Germans, especially Bastian :jap:

We apologize for keeping the yellow too long

I thought it was a great (not just nice) game by Germany....they have been the ONLY team that I found fun to watch. Torsten Frings makes the team complete. Pair of gems by Schweinsteiger....great effort all 'round by the players to put on a show throughout the entire tournament.....they had the guts to play with 2 strikers....some wuss-ass teams could learn from them! Italy may have beaten them, but I feel that they could have beaten the remaining 30 teams that competed. I'll call them early favourites for EURO 2008 if Klinsmann stays.

Damn. What a finish ... :)

That's what I meant when I said if Germany wins tonight the Worldcup will have two winners ;)

Did your TV show the party AFTER the game? After the team got the medals ... ? I hope so, I saw it on (German) TV ... it was ... unbelievable. No words ...
I never had a feeling like this when I saw that ... I got tears in my eyes seeing the fans celebrating in the dark stadium, fireworks exploding above, and the players celebrating, enjoying this amazing atmosphere, everybody so emotional, some great gestures (eg. Oliver Kahn with Figo, or Jens Lehmann ...), it was like they had won the Worldcup ...

Thanks Germany, thanks Jürgen Klinsmann, thanks Franz Beckenbauer for giving us this unbelievable event here in Germany, there has never been a party like that here in this Country, with people from all over the world, and tonight it has had the best finish for the host team that it could have had ...

Damn. I know why I love football. This tournament just confirmed it again in an unbelievably beautiful way :)

What a game it was. Lots of emotions too.

It was a very entertaining game, and Germany was awesome. Great crowd, great atmosphere, great hosts.

I really like Portugal. They're a pleasure to watch and they play with so much heart. Big props to them (Y) Nuno Gomes is definitly much better than Pauleta. They've wasted him since Euro 2000. He should've been their main striker.

That was my own little final today :bob:

Klansmmann should go club. I realize that NT coaching is the high-life interms of the pay/work arrangement, but he really should go club.

Neuville disturbs me mightily.......everytime I see his image on the television, he sends shivers down my spine a la Lector, man. From his facial structure to the design of the trunk of his body. He looks like a controlled lunatic who's just boiling with insane levels of anger and hatred on the inside. LIKE A ******* PSYCHOPATH in a right-minded man's clothing. The type that calls the F.B.I from the woodlands in his all-purpose shack with misleading information and stuff.

Is he by any chance part of a sadist network of some sort?

Kahn will be missed and Figo will too but ... I think it's time for the young players to take their place.
Maybe Kahn should have played in more than one game of the World Cup but that was Klinsmann's decision.
Figo should have started the game but I think that he wasn't able to start cause he was tired (played in all the games). I don't think he would have made a great change cause the Germans were decided to win the third place. Germany played in the attack almost all the time and controled the game ... like in the first game against Costa Rica (4-2). That's how they should have played in all the games.
As they played in this small final, Portugal didn't deserve to win this match.
I hope Scolari will remain the coach of the NT. :D

if this game had a purpose was to show to the entire world who is the best portuguese striker. I think the last 20 minutes of the game were clear as water.

I don't :)

Pauleta would have scored that goal. Hell, even Postiga. 99% Figo's goal, great cross

The movements by Gomes were exactly the same as Pauleta, he just had a better chance.

Portugal didn't deserve to lose this imo. But what Germany did was score with their chances. And they didn't do anti fair-play, so they are fair winners. And a third place for the host nation is good. :junior:
