WC Matchday 13: [SVN v ENG] + [USA v ALG] + [AUS v SRB] + [GHA v GER]

I'm on the biggest high of my life right now. This team is just amazing. They put themselves in impossible situations and then they pull themselves right out of them. All the f*cking time.

Despite our horrid finishing, we deserved the win. The way Algeria played (especially in the second half) basically said "we acknowledge that we are inferior to you, and the only way we could ever score is on a counter-attack." Even in the last 15 minutes it seemed like they were (inexplicably) playing for a draw. When they finally made a push to score in stoppage time, we caught them on the counter.

Well they tried. Rooney's ball off the post, Gerrard's attempt almost going in and Defoe's blunder. Its not like they sat back after scoring. However, bringing on Heskey at the end as lone striker is the most stupid move ever. At that point it was clear that England wasn't going to score. Seriously, whats special with HESKEY and his 3 goals in 31 EPL games? I'd rather have Marlon Harewood, Bobby Zamora or Jason Roberts than him. I can name 50 more useful English strikers than him.

And btw USA and England were tied on points with the same goal difference. Not that big of an achievement ending up 1st. I don't think USA were the better team. They were very lucky with the Green blunder. Could've gone 1-0 to England on another day.

Oh yeah, you're right. They tried. But reportedly Cole and Milner thought for some reason that the opposition's goal was somewhere near the corner flag.

We were also robbed of a game-winner v. Slovenia and created 5 times as many scoring opportunities v. Algeria as England did.

Actually wait, 5 times 0 would be 0, wouldn't it? My bad.

If we were fortunate with anything, it's that England didn't put away more of their chances v. Slovenia and win the group. That could end up having HUGE implications, not only for the Round of 16 (avoiding Germany), but also for the quarterfinals (avoiding Argentina).

Thats the truth TBH. USA drew 1-1 against England thanks to a gifted goal, isn't that true? Why do you need to get inflamed when something is said about your beloved country?

I'm not really supporting either team btw, was just giving a more or less neutral opinion. It wasn't a big deal with USA finishing 1st IMO because I always thought England are very overrated as well.

Agreed and England have themselves to blame. Defoe really should've scored that blunder. It was a frustrating game for England. I tried watching both games at the same time. England on TV and USA on my PC.

Because why are you saying anything at all? You're just being an asshole and trying to **** on our parade for god knows what reason.

haha. I understand. Sorry to "spoil" the fun then. I can imagine how ecstatic you guys are after snatching a win in the 91st minute.

amazing to consider that if Germany win their group (as I really really really hope they do with a 1 goal win), and Ghana finish second (a low-scoring draw in the other match will ensure that), then it will be USA/Ghana v Uruguay/Korea for a spot in the semis [potentially against Holland]!

We won the game in the first half. FIFA played their part once again.

Yeah, in the last 10 minutes they started to show some of that legendary discipline. As an Egyptian you must have been thinking "ahhh, now there's the real Algeria!"

Actually, I know the Algerian team very well. They are VERY WEAK team, but because all the teams do not give them enough respect, they turn to be hard to beat.

Algeria have the worst strikers in the world. In the last 8 matches they scored only 1 goal against UAE from a penalty kick.

Africa Cup of Nations:
Egypt 4-0 Algeria
Nigeria 1-0 Algeria

Friendlies:
Ireland 3-0 Algeria
Algeria 0-3 Slovakia
UAE 0-1 Algeria

World Cup:
Slovenia 1-0 Algeria
England 0-0 Algeria
USA 1-0 Algeria

a team that can't score is never a strong team. That's why there's no real strong Algeria. USA and England suffered against them because you didn't play them the right way.

Egypt beat Algeria 4-0 & Malawi beat them 3-0... would you ever compare Malawi to USA or England ?!!

but they beat Algeria 3-0 .. because they played them the right way.

to beat Algeria easily you gotta start with 3 central midfielders because they press hard & to beat that pressure, you gotta pass fast & move faster, so you need more players in the midfield to keep the ball with your side.

The problem England & USA faced was that they were very slow & tried to reach the penalty area before making a cross or creating a chance from the middle. Most of the chances were wasted because you have 11 players in the penalty area .. no matter what you do Algerians are everywhere in front of their goal.

but Malawi & Egypt did it the right way .. they put more central midfielders & started attacking from the midfield .. long fast balls to put the strikers one on one with the GK. whenever you score the first goal against Algeria .. they turn to be THE REAL ALGERIA ... you find them rushing to your goal .. forget all the tactics .. after they were defending with 11 players .. they defend with 2 or 3 .. they start losing temper & get cards.

by then you can keep scoring as many goals as you can.

In the last 10 minutes USA were much better than the 1st 80 minutes that's because you got the idea you need to pass & move very fast .. watch the goal you scored .. the ball moved from the defence to the Algerian goal in few seconds .. your fastest attack in the match .. thats why you scored because you could reach the Algerian goal before the 11 Algerian players could go back & position in front of their goal.

At the end congrats .. it seems like your way to the quarter final is easier than the group stage.

One last thing to mention:

after USA v Algeria match was finished .. Ali ben Arabia (I think he's an algerian former player) was asked : A win against Egypt was more important than going to the world cup, is that right ?

He answered: Yes, beating Egypt is more important than reaching the world cup...

what do you call that ?!!

Yes, of course... didn't deserve it.

Did you actually watch the Algeria - Egypt playoff game? Egypt played better but that Algerian keeper made some outstanding saves. It finished 1-0. I'm pretty sure Egypt would do a better job than Algeria in the WC. They play very well as a team.

God damn it, Germany doesn't look too good right now

I wonder whether they deliberately play bad, so they do not become first in the group, which would mean having to play England in the second round. (H)

EDIT: Never mind, as I write that Germany just scored.
