No. Read what I wrote. I wanted to play but couldn't find a place.

Playing on a school team is fun, but at the same time it is serious. You have to be conditioned....they don't just let any herb join the team if they are not able to play the whole or at least most of the 90 minutes. Running 5 miles straight isn't that hard, you could get to that level in a few months of training on your own. Maybe you should have done that all summer instead of complaining. If you are frightened about doing laps, then you have no place on a team...

Everyday I worked 6-7 hours at a hospital. I had to take a 2 hour one way commute. When I came home I would go to to the field to find someone to play with.

No. I obviously don't want to do work.

It's how it is in the U.S.

Physical fitness over actual football skills. Strength, stamina, speed (probably not always, but I'm speaking from my experience) Many of the people on my school team don't even play soccer, but they made the team because they can run 2 miles in less than 12 minutes or they work out and have strength. I can honestly say my ball skills are better than some of the people who are on the team, but it's just how it is. I could have been training my fitness and run those damn miles everyday but I chose not to, so really I can only blame myself, I'm not gonna cry about not being on the team.

Kader is right. The other players on the team always tell me I'm not fast enough even though I'm far more technical than the other players. I don't like to make a run unless it's really necessary. I like quick and deep passes. The others usually make a run as soon as they have a bit of space.

If we're equal or behind the the coach usually takes me out to save me for the last 10 minutes.. I get in, I make the winning goal (H) Always feels good :mrpimp:

I think someone just got cut.....:$

btw, I think it was Eugene.

Really though, I can sort of see where you are coming from. 2+ hours a day is nothing. We practice 2 times a day, each practice is 2 and a half-hours long, yes, 5 hours! Tons of running, lots of crappy drills. 90% of the time the drills dont help at all, they just dont make sense, and are never going to happen in any game. :kader: But its how everything is done here, nothing where you can just put on some boots and have fun.

btw, you cant give up man, let me tell you a little something, I have always loved soccer, watched it my entire life, but I never really played it, never thought about getting a ball to play. That is until the 2002 world cup came along, and just like everyone else I was filled with thoughts of scoring game winning goals, and cash, and hoes. So last season I thought, hey, why not try-out for the team? Well, I made the team! Now let me tell you why you cant give up. Last season(my first season playing organized soccer EVER!) i was 5'6 and about 200 pounds, and that may be me being kind to myself. I, just like you thought, "no ******* way man" when I saw all those lean, fast, skilled, guys running laps around the big pitch. I too thought I was getting the, "what the **** is he doing here look". I too thought I would not be able to do it. But I was wrong. I bit the bullet, I lost a lot of sweat, my grades dropped just a bit(just a very tiny bit), I came home from practice tired, and everyday when he would tell us to get ready to run the mile, I would look over to my bag and thoughts of sitting at home eating a Big Mac burger, and watching porn ran through my head. And I would say to myself, "Why am I doing this to myself, this isnt going to amount to anything", and everyday I would finish the mile dead last, yet the next day I would show up again. On a side note, guys would later tell me this is why I became such a popular guy on the team, apprarently they admired my will. Anyway the season ended with a total of something around 20 minutes the entire season...on the JV team, not even the A team.

As soon as the season ended, I played with my team mates after class, I joined all the summer leagues, tryed out for all the u/17 teams, and made them all(this could have been because they wanted more bench warmers, I dont know, but I got a lot of minutes for each team). I worked hard and I came back this season. I am now somewhere around 5'7 or 5'8, and now weigh 220 pounds, again, maybe im being nice, I have not checked. But not im conditioned just as well as the lean guys, and have gone from playing 20 minutes for the B team, to getting a very good spot on the Varsity(the A) team. I cant ask for a starting spot beause there are guys faster and more skilled and myself, but im important to the team, or so they say. But at least I can tell my kids that I played varsity soccer, I tried and I had some measure of success, I made a ton of friends, and now I can run 5 miles if I want to, this season, my last before uni, has just started so who knows, maybe I will make a thread like yours if I give up on the college level. And that kids is why the chicken crossed the road. :(

If you run a mile in 10 minutes then how can you even function on a football pitch?...Even as a defender you would be out of breath in 15 minutes.

Hey ahmed your post was inspirational. I went to training today and was the last person to finish every run and by the end I was just walking. Because of my schedule (of my 7 classes I am taking 7 APs) and other things I wanted to do (math team, chess club) I was going to quit tommorow as I didn't even get to play today. The kids were mean to me as by the end we were playing pig in the middle and I had to be in the middle and I couldn't be ****ed to run anymore because I had run so much...so when I finally got the damn ball they told me to stay in there because I wasn't running enough. I tried really hard but I can't put more into it. I'm having a lot of trouble taking deep breaths as well. My thighs are absolutely killing me from rubbing together so much. I've never run that much in my life.

However now that I have read your post I will come back to practice tommorow.

class post. you could learn some from this post.

nice post from you there too Ahmed.

Eugene, the thing to remember is to just do whatever the coach wants. if he says it helps, it probably does.

excellent post, I feel the same way, if you get cut from a team don't feel bad for yourself, instead think of what you didn't do to get on the team;) or maybe even use it as motivation to train and become better:p
