Holland losing to Italy in the semi-finals of Euro 2000. :(

Holland was hosting the match. Italy received a red card in the 30th minute. Holland received TWO penalty kicks in the first 90 minutes, one which they missed and one which was blocked. Italy held the score at 0-0, with one man down, through two depressing overtimes. Until finally, when it was time to take penalties, Holland missed 3 of their 4. Two of them were blocked, giving Toldo a total of three blocked penalties in one game.

:( :( :( :( :( I have never been as depressed as I was then, in my whole life. Of course, when Holland failed to qualify for the WC 2002 because of a fluke Ireland goal, or when they got defeated in the semis of 98 (penalties AGAIN!), I came close. I must say, being a Holland supporter is a sad, sad role.

Doesnt sound like REAL mexican fans. (H) j/k

It's got to be the World Cup 2002, England 1 - 0 Argentina. Beating those cheating, arrogant bastards was one of the best feelings that football can bring you.

A win in the World Cup against a team whose "greatest ever player" had to use his hand to score a header (although, granted, his next goal was damn good). A win in the World Cup against a nation who are still proud of their "greatest ever player" after being a druglord. A win in the World Cup against a scumful rabble that swore at our players in the coach after the 1998 loss. Sweet.

Even the 5-1 against Germany didn't live up to this, although it was great seeing their faces after that match compared to the arrogant celebrations at the English fans by that ugly chap who scored the winning penalty for them in Euro 1996.

Nigeria's Loss to Italy in stoppage time after they had they game pretty much wraped up almost made me cry, that ruined my week. (WC94)
And Bulgaria's Loss to Italyin the semis in the WC94 too, since then i have lost any love I had of Italian football :(

Although Nigeria's win over spain in WC 98 was delighting.

I started watchin' football because of the 2002 World Cup..
So not too many emotional moments here.

The Happiest Moments

1) When Ahn Jung Hwan scored his golden goal against Italy ^_^
2) Ronaldinho scorin' his "fluke kick" against England, which sent them home..

The Saddest

1) Argentina losing to England and going home too soon.. Almost made me cry.. :(
2) Batistuta retiring from the international team
3) Inter Milan not going to the finals in the CL..

I forgot to add that I was so happy that we beat Argentina because of Gabriel Batistuta. At the start of the match he went and tried to break 2 of the England players' legs from the kick off. It was sweet seeing him lose.

B)Watching Ronadhino score gainst england in the world cup, i was in my biology class and boy did we celebrate! I was gettin hugged and kissed from all the fit lassies. The power of football!

As an Ayr United supporter:
A)This is a big one - seeing Sir eddie annand put that penelty past colgan at the cis semi final to put us in our first ever final. It brought a tear to my eye. I was crying with joy
B)Seeing the team walk out at the final. I can still remeber the chanting, the feel of the summer sun. Needless to say we lost 4-0 to the huns. but we played well!
C)Beating Killmarnock (our unwashed neighbours from the north) for the 4th time. in the same comp we got to the final in.

I did mention this earlier but only briefly

Newcastle 2-2 Inter

The only match i didnt know whether to come out happy or sad. We just drew with one of the best teams in europe at probley the most daunting ground in the world. We didnt just draw, we whooped there arses. I even had my mate, who is a mackem, saying we should've won it. Not only that, he was sending me message's during the match saying 'Come on the Toon' :o Our fans had been a credit to us. We hadnt caused any violence and were much better behaved then the Inter fans. But, ultimatly, this ended our Champs League dream. I still dunno whether to be happy or sad about this but i know I was and I still am, very proud of my club after this and probably always will be.

hmmmm.....mine would have to be my first game of soccer. i was 7 and i got home and was blistered and tired and sore, but content. professionally.....i went to a game once in buccaramunga, columbia. it was quito, equador versus buccaramunga. late in the game a quito player kicked the ref. he's probably pumping gas somewhere. banned for life. i'm from the states, and was 10 or so at the time, so i wasnt really sure what had happened. all i remember is that all of the water vendors sold out and everyone was flinging bags of water at this poor bastard. guys were trying to get on the field. riot squads were called in. it was great. buca won 2-1 i think. as i was leaving i saw a full roasted pig on a spit. that was cool too. great game, great atmosphere....my only professional outdoor match :(

Same here... (H) ;)

Italy cheated too... one of their players clearly intercepted a dangerous cross in the penalty box with his hand. No call by the ref though, cause it was ITALY vs. bulgaria. Oh well... they got theirs in World Cup 2002, they know what it feels like. :)

I just watched that. I found the tape.

Nobody was gonna take that game away from Roberto Baggio. Italy definately dominated.

Top 10 good moments

1 - Steve Watkin scoring THAT goal against Arsenal from 6 yards that ensured that my team created the biggest FA Cup shock in the 1990's...

2 - Mickey Thomas' freekick in the same match... if the net wasn't there the ball would still be travelling now!

3 - Craig Bellamy getting a brilliant throughball from Hartson, rounding Buffon and tucking it into the back of the net to give Wales a 2-1 lead over Italy and secure a famous victory.

4 - Ronaldinho's freekick against the Sais in the World Cup... sorry, I seem to be picking on Seaman again (H)

5 - Ian Rush scoring the only goal against Germany at Cardiff Arms Park in 1991 to let us top our Euro 92 group.

6 - Kevin Russell's wonder goal in the last minute of the 3rd Round replay at Upton Park to send West Ham out! (H)

7 - Mark Hughes scoring a wonder goal with a bicycle kick against Spain at the Racecourse in 1985... I was only a kid when I saw it but it was one hell of a goal!

8 - Getting promotion from Division 3 last season in such style - 19 games unbeaten, and finished the campaign with 8 wins in a row.

9 - Beating Porto on aggregate in the Cup Winners' Cup in 1984, at a time when we were in such dire financial crisis.

10 - Gareth Jellyman's 25 yarder for Peterborough which sent Chester City to the Conference in front of their own fans at the Deva Bus Stand... and guess what, he's Welsh!

Top 10 sad moments

1 - Getting relegated two seasons ago because of the previous manager and the power struggle in the boardroom.

2 - Missing out on USA 94 after losing to Romania 2-1 at home, when we could have, and should have won. If only Paul Bodin would have put that penalty away...

3 - The Sais beating the Germans 5-1 to start bragging with their typical bigoted chants...

4 - 26th May 1999... you know the rest!

5 - Losing 5-0 to Georgia in Tbilisi, which was the worst performance by a Welsh international side ever!

6 - Bobby Gould taking the job as Wales manager - I hate that monobrowed Max Clifford lookalike!

7 - Losing to Cardiff City in the Welsh derby in the 01/02 season which opened up the relegation trap door.

8 - That game against Scotland in 1985 where the French referee gave them a penalty for a foul that occured outside the box. They scored and went to qualify for the World Cup.

9 - Losing 1-0 to Chesterfield in the quarter finals of the FA Cup in 1997. Very stupid goal as well... Had we won, we could have played Boro at Old Trafford in the semi.

10 - Bellamy scoring the third against Italy, only for the fussy French referee to disallow it because of a foul on Delaney. Ever heard of playing an advantage FFS?
