That freekick that Gerrard took recently against Man City was sweet. Gerrard has a great kick but nowhere near as good as Becks.

Van Hooijdonk... Look at the last 2 matches: 3 times he has hitted the bar and the post, once he has scored... And he'd taken 4 free kicks at all in the last two matches!!

Also, he'd taken one from almost the corner flag... It came off the bar.... :(

Roberto Carlos is the best free kick tacker, for sure
don't u think there's no player who would like to be a wall on his free kick (or goalkeeper)?
every time he goes to a free kick, there's always that expectative....
ok, sometimes he misses, but is there a human being who doesn't?
and if the balls goes in the direction of the goal, there's like 99% of chance to be GOAL...
he is the free kick man; in the world if u think about free kick, u think about Roberto Carlos....:rockman:

btw, has beckham already scored from a free kick in the world cup?

No way...

Yes, Roberto Carlos hits them, they go in...But he hits about 1 in 100  A good free kick taker isnt someone that does sometihng unbelievable 1 shot in 100, but someone that scores from the majority of their free kicks...

Beckham and Hooijdonk are the men when it comes to freekicks..no doubt.

If you're implying that Carlos has, I don't think he has either. Don't think one was actually scored last WC, because they used those "new" Adidas balls which everyone said were crap anyway, they certainly looked retarded soaring thru the air. Although Beckham did have the ability to plant the ball in the net in the last minute against Greece to take England there, something i doubt Carlos could manage..... Most players wouldn't mind taking a wee knock to stop him scoring a free kick. But most of the players don't have a say whether becks'll score one, as it's over their head or around it!

Beckham is most known for his freekicks largely so hes gonna be the one picked the most.....i dunno if he is the best b/c i always read about Hooijdonk scoring from freekicks are well.....i dunno who the best is but Beckham and Hooijdonk are known most for their freekicks....but i will see Beckham b/c ive seen him the most ...cant go wrong with a lot of people though

But i want say that it's way easier so Beckham is better. I will only see that after i see van Hooijdunk take free-kicks in England but for now they are both the best and world class! And why isn't Pierre not starting for Holland with Ruud? He always scores so many goals or atleast creates lots of chances, plus he is fecking tall!!!

I agree with Tottiiii

I don't think that the keepers in England are so much better...in Holland we have a lot of good goalkeepers...it doesn't matter how good a keeper is...a gk doesn't have a chance if the freekick is good/perfect...

But i think van Hooijdonk is better then Beckham...van Hooijdonk has scored way more freekicks in his carreer...

Also somebody said that his freekicks were standard and that many players could take a freekick as he does..but that's not true...did someone see the freekick against Freiburg 1,5 year ago...that one was one of the best freekicks all time!!

David Beckham.:rockman: I know everybody saw his freekick against Real Madrid, that was top class. Roberto Carlos doesn't score many goals. If you want to see his best freekick just tell me your email adress. As for the others I havn't seen them play.(H) :crazyboy:

Anyway, Van Hooijdonk is awesome but let's not foget that we're talking c-quality goalies here in the sutch competition. Not all of 'em of course, but the majority yes. Beckham faces much better opposition. But both of them are awesome. :hump:

My favorite would have to be Marcelinho from Vasco da Gama in the Brazilian league. He has real good control and placement when taking a freekick. Not bad power either as he's not afraid to shoot once he's near the 18 yard line. Peace.

Yes. It was against Columbia.

Van Hooijdonk is still better. :)

Carlos just pelts them, over 65% of them hit the wall or miss the target completely.

Carlos has wicked shot, but he's not really a freekick specialist or such. So many times you expect him to put away a freekick, but it goes wide or into the wall. That's then only thing I don't like about him as a player. I've always wondered why Ronaldo never takes freekicks with such a great shot.
