Yeah he won both in the 2002-2003 season BUT lost in the....SEMI-FINALS of THAT OTHER COMPETITION....with Raul and Ronaldo injured...and as a result, ineffective in the time that they played! What a pathetic joke that decision was! It was supposed to be drowned out with Posh Spice' s arrival but that decision turned out to be nothing like what was expected.

United :nape: and Real Madrid :nape: Never thought the day would get here so soon. There is one solution for Real....however unlikely it may be....and that is to inject some youth into the lineup from their farm system.....I'm sure they have one....get rid of some old guys.....and then 2 to 3 years down the road (during which the Galactico signing policy gets re-thought), get Ronaldinho from Barca.

Why the hell did the board fire Del Bosque (sp?)? Because the board thinks you could win every cup. You cant manage a team with 32, 33 year olds, whos best years are behind him. Seriously, Del Bosque won the leage that season, and if I recall, also the spanish cup.
Yup. At that time it was unthinkable for Real Madrid to get knocked out in the CL semifinals, so they fired him. Now they would kill to win the league and reach the CL semis.

Newbie Original, you bring up a very good point. That transfer seemed to shoot both teams in the foot at first glance. I guess with retrospect we can now see that it was just the decisions that preceeded it which screwed Madrid over: im still convinced that selling Beckham was ManYoo's mistake, though. Sir Alex on a power trip

I remember that year in the Champions League, they fought an amazing tie in which Mr. Beckham's exclusion, substitution in and individual performance in the second leg was the headlining story.

Madrid have a good farm system, but the fact remains they have alot of egos and stars still on their roster. They would do well to get Del Bosque back and see if he can fix their terrible state, but I doubt if the board would crawl back to him, if he would say yes, or if Ronaldinho would ever be such a traitor to join the rabble they have become.

Fixing manchester united, on the other hand, might be a bit more of a difficult venture.

By the way, Newbie, nothing against you personally, but is your sig Mantle, Ruth, Gehrig and DiMaggio layered on top of a girls yabos? :| Im not sure I get it man.

Forget about acquiring any new players , get Luciano Moggi and Roberto Bettega to run your lame club instead :mrpimp:

Its really sad to see the team with the history of Real playing so bad.

I think its very clear that the problem of Madrid is the president.

The biggest mistakes of Florentino are the signings.

Madrid fans love these ''big'' signings, with all the media behind, and the ''he will look good in the Real shirt''.

And i have to say i like when overhyped and over rated players play like sh*t.

To be honest, I'm getting really angry now, at the stupid, pathetic, "we have to buy atleast one megastar EVERY SEASON!" transfer policy. I don't care about a players reputation, I just want a hard working player that will give 100% everytime he puts a Real Madrid shirt on. We don't have enough of them, and it's showing now.

Real Madrid may lie in 5th but as the name of the thread suggests I also think it's a crisis. Even though I didn't always agree with the tactics of Lux, I still think sacking him was definately the wrong decision to make. Sure if there was a good replacement then perhaps I wouldn't be writing this, but there really isn't. This crisis is more then the coach, or the players, but the club itself has been on a downfall ever since they made the stupid decision of not paying Makelele enough money and also firing Del Bosque, who should have never been let go.

What to actually do though? A well qualified coach has to be brought. No quick pick like Caro will be able to get the job done. I just read on Goal.com that Radomir Antic might be brought in to try to stop the bleeding. While I don't think he is the man for the job (he did do well with turning Barca's fortunes around though) I definately think he's a better option than Caro.

If I was Antic and I was brought in, the very first thing I would do is change the teams formation to a 4-4-2 with 2 attack-minded wingers and 2 deep midfielders. I think such a formation will provide better stability to the squad. A new DM would be the #1 priority. I'd sell Diogo (to accomodate Cicinho, who I don't think is the best option for this team, a more defensive minded RB would have been a better option), and either Gravenson and/or Pablo Garcia would also be axed.

One possible idea could be to put Helguera back into his former DM spot and sign a new CB if a good DM isn't easily accessible. But other then that a youth revolution could be the best thing for the squad. During the Santander game where Soldado and Balboa brought some life to the squad I sorta think over the next few years more such players should be implemented to the system, because this whole "sign a Galactico" scheme definately didn't work.

Or better yet, someone should just take Perez "out of commission" if you know what I mean. Now that would definately help. :jambo:

I think it all went downhill when they got rid of the Mac factor , Steve McManaman and Claude Makelele and brought in galaticos. The club lacks the hard working players who create balance in the side. They need to get rid of Perez and start rebuilding the team.
