Probably because you have been supporting Arsenal for a long time, nea ge footballers will just see them against man utd for trophys and presume that as the rivalryOriginally posted by AFC Evolution
I don't think the Arsenal / Man United rivalry is very big at all. Some people perceive it to be bigger than it actually is because of the way recent seasons have finished.
Arsenal winning the league by winning at Old Trafford in 01/02 for example. The personal thing between Keown and Van Nistelrooy, the comparisons made between Patrick Vieira and the Roy Keane of old.
I would still much rather see Tottenham get stuffed than Man United, though. Man United are our main rivals in terms of trophy-winning chances now ... but if Arsenal don't win things, I don't care who does as long as it isn't Tottenham!

put me under an UNTRUE fan list, because I don't give a ratsy about matches vs Tottenham.
Tottenham don't even talk smack. They just show up and take their ass-whupping.
At least ManU run their mouths before they come for their beating.

Wrong! Teddy Sheringham :
Precisely mate. If Arsenal were not title rivals they would not be rivals at all, but it doesn't matter where Liverpool or City are in the league beating them is more important than just 3pts.Originally posted by man united forever
Arsenal return to mid-table mediocrity, it almost certainly will not be that great a rivalry.

Man, you just can`t compare the intensity between Man U - Liverpool rivalry, with Man U - Arsenal rivalry. The rivalry with Liverpool has been goin` on for decades, while Arsenal gives us lots of troubles only for the last five or six years. Manchester and Liverpool are the football capitals of England, where the great history happens, where the legends born. The rivalry is as classic as Madrid - Barca, Boca _ River Plate, etc. Liverpool is our true and eternal rival without a doubt.Originally posted by antithesis
maybe you can now tell us why Liverpool and ManU are rivals.
I hope you don't say because they WERE title rivals in the past because that would make your Arsenal argument a whole heap of .....
good job on saying thatOriginally posted by antithesis
try answering the question next time
First of all, Anfield is a lot closer to Old Trafford than you might think. But that's not the main reason behind it. Unless I am very much mistaken, Liverpool relegated us in the playoffs at the end of the 1893/94 season. That sowed the seeds for a rivalry which has continued to grow. However, my analysis could be incorrect and I invite any other United fan to correct itOriginally posted by antithesis
