well ive been saying that C.Ronaldo will be the MVP of this cup for months now
realistically hes not going to score many goals but hes gona get the ball to Pauleta which is all that matters
also look out for Dirk Kuyt to have a late coming out party
you English are hillarious when you think that Lennon and Walcot are good at the world class level....
Please never compare or mention Walcot and C.Ronaldo in the same sentence again!!

Pauleta eh? in euro 2004 he was one of the favorites to be the top scorer, but what happened? he scored...umm... no goal
lets hope he could be luckier this time

I always hate to take people to task when they're sitting on 3 posts, but C.Ronaldo is NOT going to be the MVP of the World Cup. Not only does Portugal look painfully average in this tournament, but also C.R. has not exactly been a world beater for the past year and a half or so. There's just something missing, like he stalled in his development.

I generally agree with your assesment of CR, but what makes you think Portugal is looking so painfully average atm? I'm just curious as to what gives you that impression since we did qualify with one of the most impressive records in Europe and were one of the highest scorring teams in qualifying (if not the highest). I realize England, Holland, Italy, etc. probably all look like stronger squads on paper, but we all know that means Carlos-squat on the field...

Personally, I don't think this is the best football I've ever seen Portugal play either and Scolari is definitely out of touch, but then again I'm making that judgment after having watched pretty much every single game they've played, both qualifying and friendlies for the past 2 years.

I don't expect any Portuguese player to become MVP of the upcoming WC tournament. I'm not overly confident with our squad, and the choices for some players to have a cap on our national squad have indeed been controverserial. But to say that C.Ronaldo won't shine is just plain naive. Ronaldo isn't stupid, he knows this where the world will be watching, and just like 2004 he'll put on a display. Just like he did when Ferguson's scouts went to watch him at Sporting, and just like he did in his first Premier league match against Bolton.

I don't mean breathtaking, but at least it will be entertaining football; I can't say so much for other players mentioned in this thread.

Sh1t yeah.

^ yeah, he always seems a different player to me with the Portugal shirt on. I don't know if it's how he's been used on the NT but he's always been more reliable and renders more than at Man Utd. I don't know though, Portugal is always a Dr. Jeykl/Mr. Hyde situation, I think we'll either do amazing like get to the semis, or go out in a first round disaster. I think we'll beat Angola because we're familiar with them and frankly a lot stronger, we'll underestimate Iran and lose, then we could beat Mexico since we seem to step-up when against more highly regarded opposition. Who knows, looking forward to it anyhow...

I actually think we will draw against Iran and Mexico :x.

Portugal average? Well, they are not the level of Brazil, Argentina, Italy, etc...but you can't call a team that finished the qualify with more points than many favourites like France, Italy and that got to the final of Euro 2004, practicing the best football of it along the Czechs an average team. I would say we have a team to go to the quarters. After that...only god knows...

And C.Ronaldo? MVP? Might win the young player of the tournament, but I don't think MVP.

Portugal is by far not average, and you guys are right, Ronaldo has started playing average ball for United but when he puts on that Portugal uniform hes a totally different player. Thats why i think hes going to be the best. And as for their squad, they should have added Quaresma and Rui Costa (even though he doesnt fit the formation, he can bring some experience). Everybody is forgetting about Thiago who has had a great season at Lyon. Look for him to shine as well.

Ah... it's that guy that says that Brasil are the hot favourites: "actually is because they are the most experienced and have a good defense."

Ok...

I think Akale is going to have a good tournament, as well as that massive Serbian striker...Zigic?
As for CR being MVP of the tournament, its not that he's not good - he's certainyl got potential. but there will be soo many other players in much better form than him at the tournament. Being a fulham fan i think Boa Morte might upstage him; but i can't believe BM got picked over Quaresma

C. Ronaldo won't be the MVP. However, I think this tournament will be the biggest sign of what he can do. He's always shoen potential, but never realised it.
