ShiftyPowers said:I don't know man, I rate Ballack, Podolski, and Klose higher than anyone on Portugal except for CR. And Borowski is going to blow up at the Cup if he starts, the way he's playing right now I'd rate him above anyone on Portugal as well. However, I do admit an attacking bias. Richardo Carvallo is without a doubt the best defender on either of the two teams.

-Vince- said:ShiftyPowers, stop taking games against Luxembourg too seriously, man. I'd give Portugal the edge - on paper - because of their superior defense which is the most important requirement for a successful campaign. We'll see if the homeground advantage will play a major role like in the past tournaments.
I'd rank Brazil, Argentina, Italy, England and Holland above or respectively slightly above Portugal as the top favourites. The Spaniards don't seem to have the mentality to perform as a team when it matters. The French are way past it. They struggled in the qualifying round to leave the likes of Switzerland, Ireland or Israel behind them.
The way I see it:
Ger..............Por
GK: >
DEF: <
MID: =
ATT: >
Defense > offense as long as you don't have the likes of Ronaldinho, Adrinao, Ronaldo etc. up front. Like I stated earlier, a strong defense is the key to a successful campaign. We're not gonna win anything if the CBs don't improve or not stay injured (Huuuth). It might be enough for Costa Rica or Ecuador but not against a more balanced team.ShiftyPowers said:I'm not taking games against Luxembourg too seriously, Klose and Borowski were basically the two best players in Germany this past year and if it weren't for Weise's blunder they would have eliminated Juventus. Klose is probably the best arial forward at the WC including Koller and McBride. And we all know what Poldi is capable of.
But do I really have to argue that much? Look at your own rankings! You give Germany 2 pluses, Portugal 1 plus, and an even midfield. I don't know, maybe my american match is shoddy, but I always thought 2 > 1.
They first have to prove themselves against tougher opposition in the later stages of the tournament. Until then, let's not get ahead of ourselves here. There will be a lot pressure on them and the whole team.To me Klose and Podolski might be the best striking tandem in the cup, and that includes Ronaldo and Adriano.
