FIFA 06 Demo - Your Impressions

Having played the demo quite intensively, with all the various patches and expanders, I can say without hesitation that in spite of the obvious improvements this year, I won't be buying the full version.

Don't get me wrong, there are lots of plus points about Fifa 06. Lots. The overall presentation and atmosphere is very very good and though I might have missed Mottie, Clive T is an improvement in many respects - the excitement is palpable. You can almost hear the sparks flying from the microphone as he wets his pants. The gameplay is much improved and I appreciate the way the opposition harry you when you attack and how your own defence is marshalled when the ball comes the other way. It's got good tactical cut and thrust - though Ronaldinho's line dancing every time he gets in space is a little tiresome. The cut scenes are superb and we know that the eventual rosters will be up to date and the bulk of the kit and stadium details accurate. On many yardsticks, you'd have to nit-pick.

BUT - the rendering, as ever, is extremely scrappy and juddery, even with Render Every A1 Frame enabled and my vid card cranked up to Performance in every respect. And, having played PES, the movement of the ball just looks ridiculous.

It's a great shame because I know that other people have reported inprovements in this regard this year - even so far as saying the graphics are "smooth as butter" (Ah - Fifa 99!). But not for me.

i repetedly played the demo and its ok the only beef i have is the shooting. Do the players have just one shooting foot ??? Many a time i have come in from the left only for the forward to make a rather pathetic shot with the opposite foot players are two footed any one else noticed this

I think its because they kick with there prefered foot foor instance if someones prefered foot is right the AI will always make him kick with his right

Tried it today. As many people around here, I won't buy the complete version. Maybe i will get borrowed from someone or...well you know lol. :lui:

The game is pretty much Fifa 2005 Version 1.5...some improvements...new faces...extras...one or two new animations...

The graphics are quite weak. The control is very much scripted. I like the soundtrack.

Once again, I'm pretty sure PES5 will win the battle. But watch out. Fifa 2005 is good. Fifa 2006 is...good Version 1.5

Why people still make this kind of posts? :boohoo: I play both games and it's really pathetic saying that people that play FIFA don't understand FOOTBALL (soccer it's the american game... i'm european)....

Easy...soccer is a European word, notion and concept. Americans historically employ it to differentiate between it and gridiron (American football), that's all.

As for FIFA 06 demo, well, it's okay in all the ways FIFA's always been okay; the ball movement and player interaction, for me, is still below PES4/WE8.

I look forward to someone I know buying FIFA 06 and comparing and contrasting it with PES5.

my impression after playing demo...

1. the player graphics is bad.....
2. can't feel the power of ball when shooting, feel weak....
3. the player's reaction slow...

hope EA improve when release the game, but from the past experience, demo's gameplay is almost similar to final product up to 90%.... :nape:

Why, when a threat happens, does the defense (vs. the PC) never just safely play the ball back to the keeper, like in real football? I get so many scoring opportunities when playin the computer (on any level) because the computer defense refuses to tap it back to the keeper, allowing for a steal and shot.

Let me start by saying I was a FIFA fan until about 8 months ago. Yes, I played FIFA 2005 all the time and I loved it. One of my friends forced me to play PES 4 on PC with the great Wolf patch. Wolf, I forever thank you as no patch comes close to yours. Once I played PES 4 for one hour, I threw away FIFA 2005, literally. With all that out of the way, I want to talk about the FIFA 06 demo as I played it for many hours so I would get a feel for it.

1) Again and like always with EA Sports games, there are many many many mnay many many (with great emphasis if you couldnt tell) generic players. I am sick of having a team with 3-5 players who look identical, and I mean IDENTICAL. When playing from a long range camera, every player looks the same, unless they are a different skin colors.

2) When will EA wake up and understand that every player on earth does not run the same. The running animation looks the same no matter who has the ball. The only difference is their ball control and speed, but even those do not make the animation look different. Only the ball is closer to their feet or they are running faster.

3) EA really needs to make a new GFX engine as the player models just look downright sad. Everyone does not have the same physique. The hair looks like ass once again. Also, it is hard to distinguish between a short player and tall player from any distance. Ballack and Ze are not even close in height, yet when running down the field they look the same. At least is PES I can tell my short players from my tall players, without a cutscene. Oh and I can tell who has the ball without the commentary or reading their name in PES, once again...........FIFA has horrid player models IMO.

4) I love how they Stole the R2 moves from PES, what was wrong with the right joystick moves. When I played FIFA 2005 I had no problem side stepping with the right joystick.

5)Sound, well thats about the only positive to any of the EA Sports FIFA games. Yes the atmosphere is very good. I have no real complaints about the sound.

6) Tackling still looks very scripted an unrealistic. Why is it so hard to make someone lose balance. It took me many times of running head on into a player to even shove them, let alone make them just fall flat on their a$$ because they lost balance in the collision, like in PES.

7) The goal nets are somewhat better, but not really. They do not move enough to make it look realistic. Hell IMO, most of the time they look the same as last year, the ball hits the brick wall that doesnt move.

8) Corners are just like in UEFA CL 2005. They are not bad and totally scripted like in FIFA 2005, but they need some work. I am just happy that FIFA people are allowed to take a short corner now.

9) Freekicks are about the same as in PES, I have no complaints here.

10) Shooting and goal scoring. Yes the crazy super fast shots still happen, and oh how I love it when my 3rd string defender can shoot a bullet. EA needs serious work on the ball physics. Don't they understand that if they made the ball physics more realistic, the game would play more realistic and they wouldnt have to keep editing the game. All the shots once again look the same. It does not vary at all. There are like not even a handful of different shots and after one game, you have seen it all. Headers still love to fly in that straight line. Every now and then it wont, but those are few. The heading is still more accurate than it should be. Just because I am very good at heading, does not mean I should MAKE almost every header I attempt. Let me point out that, NO It is still not satisfying to score like in PES. I have zero desire to watch the replay. I just want to skip them as fast as I can. In PES I have over 100 great shots saved...............because you feel great when you make that sweet sweet goal.

11) The goalie animations are still **** IMO, but at least every block doesnt result in a corner anymore, Thank god.

12) EA has improved itself this year, but they still have a very long way to go before I will ever buy their crap again. I am sick of how they feel it is ok to monopolize the sports genre. :lui:

13) Remember, this is just my opinion. :mrpimp:

which must make PES perfect in every department already. Not!

Why are PES fans who have already posted negatives on this game then monitoring any positive posts so they can counteract with a negative. Go play your game, go on shoo!
I switched between Fifa 2005 and PES4 and was playing PES more but still frustrated with its many faults as I was with Fifas faults. I have the Fifa 2006 demo and I expand the time so I can play longer. I thouroughly enjoy this game and when it is released I think it will be my all time favourite computer football game if not my all time favourite computer game (and I have had SWOS, Kick Off, Fifa from early years, PES3-4 and WE and some other pretender shyte footie games. Tried them all and they have all fell short in some way or other). I'm not going to say its the best as I will get a arguments that will need its own thread. I'm saying this is the one I am enjoying the most, so it is my favourite.
I am loving this game and cannot wait for the full release. If only you could switch to exactly any player you wanted, but all computer football games fall down here. But I love it! Complain about ball physics, faces, shooting, tackling, nets, freekicks, goalies, animation, running all you like. I am certain I will not be playing PES4 again when this is released. Looking at some of the complaints about PES5 demo I wont be playing that either.

Now I respect that, but what I'm saying is some people and also you must be too, have tried Fifa 2006 and may or may not have posted your opinion on the game. But keep monitoring till you see a positive response about the game, then you counter with your negative and it usually involves talking up PES. Why not talk up in the PES forums if you have no constructive to post here. Do you need us to see the light that you have been divinely graced with?

What ever happened to freedom of speech?

I think I, like everybody else just want the closest thing to football, and at this moment in time pes is that game!
So what f*cking else are we supposed to compare it? Real Football? Give me a break, fifa since 99 has been getting farther away from real footie it's untrue.
For gameplay sensible soccer is lightyears ahead of Fifa06 and you muppets that get sucked in by it year by year are just showing how little you know about football simulation. :kader:
If PES had all the licenses you'd drop fifa like a shot, which just proves the point that your just interested in licenses and whether it's official or not!

The fact that pes5 got 10/10 proves whats the best footie game of our time

so you absolutely agree with every review and rating you have ever seen, or are you just selective?

It just means its the reviewers opinion and you know if you get 10 people to review one item your likely to get 10 different opinions. But some plonkers like yourself try to pass off your opinion as fact as you did in that qoute above because someone elses opinion agrees with yours. Freedom of speech is totally acceptable to me, but I dont think it is to you. As I said before, you and some people need to keep subtly belittle other peoples opinion when they post a positive about their ideas which differs from yours, but you want the whole world to agree with yours. If not, go post in the PES forum about how you prefer that. Why are you watching so you can influence the opinions that dont agree with yours? This forum isnt about whether this is better then PES.

I gave my impression of the FIFA demo, but when someone gets excited about handballs which is something another game has already done and it IS a part of that thing called real football, yes I will point out that the other game has already had it. :)

Also a review doesnt mean ****, but lest use your example. The funny thing in this situation is that you would be very hard pressed to find a review of FIFA 2005 that is higher than PES 4 and it will be the same with PES 5 and FIFA 06. FIFA has made wonderful strides this year, there is no denying that, but they are still far behind.

Here will this make you happy. So what FIFA 06 has handballs, UEFA CL 2004-2005 already has handballs.

I'm bored with this.
I still have my opinions though and always will as you will always yours, but I respect them and never feel that mine is superior or fact. Hows that!
