CVS Stilton
Youth Team
Having played the demo quite intensively, with all the various patches and expanders, I can say without hesitation that in spite of the obvious improvements this year, I won't be buying the full version.
Don't get me wrong, there are lots of plus points about Fifa 06. Lots. The overall presentation and atmosphere is very very good and though I might have missed Mottie, Clive T is an improvement in many respects - the excitement is palpable. You can almost hear the sparks flying from the microphone as he wets his pants. The gameplay is much improved and I appreciate the way the opposition harry you when you attack and how your own defence is marshalled when the ball comes the other way. It's got good tactical cut and thrust - though Ronaldinho's line dancing every time he gets in space is a little tiresome. The cut scenes are superb and we know that the eventual rosters will be up to date and the bulk of the kit and stadium details accurate. On many yardsticks, you'd have to nit-pick.
BUT - the rendering, as ever, is extremely scrappy and juddery, even with Render Every A1 Frame enabled and my vid card cranked up to Performance in every respect. And, having played PES, the movement of the ball just looks ridiculous.
It's a great shame because I know that other people have reported inprovements in this regard this year - even so far as saying the graphics are "smooth as butter" (Ah - Fifa 99!). But not for me.
