gameplay: super
graphics: horrendous

sub animations WOOT WOOT!!!

It's normal on the demos the graphics cause they come in low res... with an expander they will become great, good at least...

Firstly, i cant give a too deep opinion because the games is very stuttery with bad graphics atm. Heres what i think:

Gameplay - havent played much but its a lot less scripted and similiar to pes. Player animation is superb and i find its fun just to pass it around the pitch.
I think its too fast but i will change the settings when i get the game.

The goalies - A whooole lot more realistic. Balls bounce off them for once. Makes shots more interesting

Animations - player animations are fantastic, havent seen many celebrations but i usually skip them anyway.

Commentary - huge improvement, not very fluent but that may just be the demo. The new commentary team is geat. Clive Tylvesly sounds just like he does on motd and andy gray is an old fav and much better than ally mcoist.

Nets - they move at last

Team thinking - probably not what i am used to on pes4 but its a lot more like football

AI - its a low difficulty so its hard to tell

referee - always been good in fifa

free kicks - a good free kick system is always going to be hard, i dont think i will get the hang of this one but its probably an improvement

corners - still prefer it when everyone is in the box (eg pro evo, sorry i keep referring to that).

Penners - aint had one

TWO problems, firstly the players all look the same again with plastic faces and hair. Secondly, at a goal kick the players are all stood like robots in fixed positions. I hate that because it reminds me its still a game/looks scripted

Started playing and the gameplay is sweet but then something happened.
CPU ran down the wing and took a cross, Eto headed it and it went well wide but the goal stood.

Well, it does appear to be an improvement on 05. Nice to see a handball feature in the game. Gameplay is a tad fast but that will be fixed no doubt. Commentary also is quite good, although I expect that things will grate after repetitive hearing. The main wory is that there will be lots of the shoot - goalkeeper fumbles - other striker taps in type of goals.

I've played a few games and certainly the game speed is too fast and it doesn't feel very realistic. The gameplay has been improved a tad but TO ME something doesn't feel right. I don't know what yet but something isn't clicking in the game. The atmosphere is good as well as the comentary, but as i said something isn't up to par in order to make the game more realistic (gameplay wise).

Looking at those shots the players are so shiny it looks like they are swimsuit models oiled up on sunny beach somewhere. I'm going to try the demo though because I trust Wolf's opinion...maybe this one is finally worth playing occasionally.

I didn't like it. I'll give it a second chance later. It almost feels like 05, but without the stupid freekick system.

Eto'o gets ready to put the boot into Ronaldo ... hehehe

Anyway, the main thing annoying me after a few plays is the ping-pong nature of the passing. But at least lobs into space are much better than 05.

Ok, played about 10 halves or so and here are my thoughts:

First the positives:
1. Improved player animations during running/ball control
2. Better goalie AI

3. Good crowd atmosphere

4. Absolutely love the nets

Now the negatives:

1. Ground passing too precise..almost scripted

2. Ball physics are similar to last year (ie: like a lump of coal..not bouncy enough)

3. Some shots on net still fly like rockets (ie. don't drop or slow down)

4. Game speed is fast (but I believe there is a speed slider that can slow it down like in 2005)

5. Keepers cannot kick the ball far enough whendropkicking (ie. can't get it past midfield)

Overall I find it more fun than 2005....but I have a feeling that there is more than 50% of the original code in this game...I'll still pick it up though

One definitely positive thing for me are the graphics, the shiny graphics are back again so my ss will look even better with 06.
The kits don't look too bad either but I'm counting on 'our' kitmakers to make them even better :ewan:
Gameplay is a bit getting use to, I just scored a brilliant goal with Rooney though a real cracker :)
Good thing there is a practisemode in the full game and you can adjust gameplay. Millennium stadium looks real good too and the graphics for the crowds are about the same as last year.
There are a few commentators in the game like this Clyde fella in the demo, John Mottson of course and Andy Gray is there again as co-commentator and so is Alley McCoist so that's promising. The commentary is mostly the same but there are new lines like 'thy shall not pass' very funny.
I hope that the game will be great once it comes out, can't wait to play with Ajax :p

PS Could someone answer some gameplay questions for me?
1. Describe the new free kick system.
2. Do Fullbacks actually make runs now?
3. Do you actually feel good when you score like in WE?
4. Anything else you want to tell me about gameplay.

1. only got 1 free kick and i blasted it away. not sure how the new system works

2. i think so. defenders did push up rather than stay back all the time

3. no

4. overall is good but a little bit too fast. AI is better, shoting is more realistic now. no more 300 km/h shot. the only thing is the cpu keep doing fancy move by dragging the ball around and make some turn over here and there which not help. i just sit back and watch what they doing and then make tackle, plain easy

Seems to be getting better and better every time I play.

Full backs definately mave forward runs. I was coming in from the left wing with giggs and then stopped and looked to pass and all of a sudden I see Heinze running down the wing and that looked really good!

Also, players like c.ronaldo and giggs get in the box when crosses come in. E.g. rooney was on the ball and crossed in from the left....ronaldo came into the box before the cross and headed just wide. Once again seeing ronaldo running into the box from the wing was good!

And once I was playing the ball about on the right of midfield between ruud, c.ronaldo and keane and I gave the ball to ruud and then ronaldo and then back to ruud and keane made a great forward run through the middle without me telling him to make a forward run and I put him through!

Gotta say the more you play the more improvements you see in the gameplay.
Dont know if it beats pro evo or not but this sure is fun and the best to come out of EA!

ALSO: I know its nothing new espceially if you've been playing pro evo but this year EA have included it. The noise when you hit the post or the bar.....sounds excellent!!!

It's already been asked, but not answered:

Does anyone know what the two/three dots by the score mean?

Anyways, this took some getting used to because I haven't play a FIFA PC game since 03, and then I had a controller. Once I was used to the keyboard, I thought it was a great demo.

Obviously the graphics will improve in the full version.

As has been mentioned, I like how it's hard to just run right through the defense with a quick counter, you actually have to build up play with a lot of passing and movement, rather than having the keeper roll to a defender, play a through ball to the winger, and play a through ball to the striker and score. Much more realistic in this sense.

One thing that I noticed is that keepers have a lot of balls that float at them very slowly, and they drop them a lot, which results in a goal. (Oh, and Van der Sar is better than an 86!)

The crossing/heading system are much better, in 05 it was WAY too easy to send in a cross and score, regardless of how your players were positioned they would almost always get over the defenders. Now you actually have to muscle your way around in the box while the cross is coming in. I scored an excellent goal with Rooney where Ronaldo sent in a cross to the far post, and Rooney kind of pushed off his man to make space, and then put in the header.

I also like how keepers are still good, but they don't save the impossible shots like they did in 05.

Also, the nets are excellent. :rockman:

EA have improved.

This game has been a 2 year project by the looks of it, in comparison to games of the past which have only taken small steps to improve.

There are more positives in Fifa 06 this year than of the last.

I can't see the gameplay being tweaked much more by Fifa because it's meant to represent a fast, exciting, free flowing pace.

The player motions are improved, slightly. One on one against a player don't have a 90% chance of winning the ball back, its more like 30-40%. They run about, play games with you, and are a challenge.

Shooting on goal is improved. Big positive is winning the ball back off a fumbled save, and embarrassing the opposition. Rooney from long range is good, the keeper doesn't just run at the ball and catch it, I liked that.

I also liked the fact that you can be played onside, and the opposition defence doesn't automatically chase you down. They're about even pace so you have about a few seconds to decide on your option.

However, the annoying part I found was when a keeper saves, can't hold the ball, and the opposition striker slides a kick in and scores. Something for EA to consider. Instead, why doesn't the opposition player dribble past my keeper, score, and make me feel worse for defending incompetently :).

The crowd seems more realistic, however I think it'll be more telling in the full version. Whistles and boos in the ECL and UEFA Cup?

In conclusion:

The graphics are always something EA has prided itself on, and generally used to win over Fifa fans. However, the gameplay is improving and that is what ultimately counts. Fifa 06 seems to be the biggest positive step EA has taken in sometime, and I congratulate them for that. Doesn't mean they've made it in soccer gaming, just means they're beginning to do things right.

I've managed to put the game in world class trough config.dat, the game was on semi pro, that's the reason to get to easy and stupid CPU, in World Class it get's much more realistic... :)
