I haven't written it, but that's what I'm giving it. That is, if Matt will let me post it at the website since it's not really promoting FIFA 2003.

Graphics: 10/10 - Always good looking.
Sound 9/10 - Sounds awesome.
Gameplay 6/10 - Many game play bugs (will be mentioned)
CONTROLS: 0/10 - You basically have little control while playing this game. It was the same in FIFA 2002, and they even made it worse (with the heading business). No excuses or slack, they've had a year to fix it.

i think the controls should be at least a 6 or 7, i dont have problems with controlling my team, or heading or anything..

Maybe so, but it is not up to par in other games. I mean, sometimes it will do things you didn't ask to, or it will take forever for a response. This is a PS2 version keep in mind, so perhaps it has something to do with the controller, I'm not sure. It just seems like I have no control over the ball. Even though, most of the time I have control, it is just completely awful when the player does something you don't want to do. Or your player will just stand there (yes, it happens SOMETIMES, not all the time, but sometimes) as the ball passes by him. Unacceptable, and it's bizarre that no other EA Sports game has this problem.

Is this review about the PC version, the Ps2 version or the X-Box version, apparently going by some of the posts in here, the game seems to have slightly different glitches on each format, and it can be very confusing when people post problems about the game and forget to mention which or what format that they are talking about. == :)

I'll give it

Graphics: 7/10 -buggy engine, textures too small (kit's back and long sleeve)

Sound: 8/10 -Great improvement. Crowds jeer and sometimes cheer at home team whenever they passes the ball. However, commentators sometimes talk rubbish as usual.

Gameplay: 5/10 -pretty good except for heading. They prolly forgot to put in heading until the last min. Reasons are: headers not mentioned in manual, didn't see headers in early movies, nobody would actually put headers seperately and they combined keeper rushing with header (you have to use pass or shoot with the ea assistant when defending corners/crosses or keeper will rush out instead)

I totally agree with you Joe, but i'm now talking about the PC version. Everybody who thinks this game is great, obviously doesn't know anything about football!!!!! How people can say this game is so good without curling and the messed up headering is a joke.

These people obviously like it as the computer controls most of the game itself, leaving less playability for us gamers.

The headings crap
the passing is crap
the shooting is crap

When i first played this, i thought it was amazing, but then after afew games, all the moves got a bit samey. You just don't seem to be able to control anything as much. 2002 is better than this in terms of gameplay and playability.

Graphics wise, this game rules. but i have that problem with the squares on the shirts, can anyone tell me how to sort this out?

(edited).....Let me just say, i find this game boring, yet i am still playing it. I am giving it a chance, have played it a lot now. Every now and then i enjoy it, but the same problem keeps cropping up....It's just the same moves, the same goals, the same 1 touch passing, and the same attacking midfielder running all the way to the box without being challenged and either slotting it past the post or straight down the keepers throat..

dood

god, dood ur either a stupid person or a newbie... or both. probably both. but anyway.
controls take forever to actually come up?!?!?!?

well maybe coz ur sprinting, remember the ball is separated so the player needs to run and actually tap the ball. the ball doesn't suddenley turn in midair or suddenley come to ur feet like a magnet.

Hey Mr so called PRO

The reason why we're complaining about curl is because there is NO CURL IN OPEN PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ONLY TIME YOU CAN CURL is when taking a free kick.

Obviously YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. what are you talking about redjoey?
you've lost me with that post!

OB1 before saying people don' t know **** about soccer, you'd better think a bit before (and may be grow up a little...), flaming around will get you nowhere.
Learn to master the game before saying control suxx as I agree totally with Redjoey...
Ps: you really look like you're lost

Have practically mastered the game, considering like i said, the computer controls a lot more in 2003.

For example, crossing the ball in, results in the computer enabling your striker to head or volley it in. Countless times i have crossed, not touched a button, just to see my striker flick it in with his bonce. Where's the gameplay in this?

Also, when the computer crosses in, i don't even bother pressing anything as the computer controls my player again to clear the ball. again, where is the gameplay in this.

I don't know about you, but I like to control my players myself. And it's got nothing to do with the assistant, as i've turned it off, and it still happens.

When i head the ball, the computer seems to head it in whatever direction it feels fit, as i try to header back towards the goal from their goal kick, some how the ball gets flicked on by my defender.

Please explain to me what you mean by lost. These seem to be fair criticisms of the game IMO.

Nicely said Jozef

I totally agree with everything you said!!!!

Apart from....it was easy to score in the top corners in Fifa 2002.

Well I didn't like your flaming attitude ... and you can definitely not say that other people know **** about soccer as you are only 22 years old and others around were watching soccer as you were not even born yet!
I respect your opinion on the gameplay but you should begin to respect others ...
Anyway ... Cheers!

If Joe decides to give FIFA 2003 a 5/10 I won't post it.

Not because I'm out to give FIFA 2003 uneccesary credit, but simply because as the editor of Soccer Gaming it is my job to assure that everything that appears on my site is 100% factual and correct. And I strongly feel that giving FIFA 2003 a 5/10 overall is not correct.

I'll talk to Joe about this, though, cos I certainly want to post his review.

What I'll suggest to Joe though is that we give FIFA 2003 two ratings. As a FIFA site, we are obviously incredibly "picky" in our reviews. So I think we should give the game a "FIFA rating" which is low (perhaps not as low as 5/10) which gives a representation of how we feel FIFA is coming along and how much improvement EA need to put in before we have the perfect game.

Overall though, as a video game, I feel FIFA 2003 doesn't deserve anything worse than a 7.5/10. I personally would give it a 8/10, but 5/10 is just not correct as it is still a very enjoyable and well made video game.

BTW, I'm not saying that controls are good. I agree, they need a lot of improvement and on their own, the controls should get a very low score.

Basically what I'm meaning is that we (the FIFA community) are incredibly secptical and expect the absolute best each year. So to the FIFA community, FIFA might get a low score. But to the other millions of people who play on a more casual basis than us die hard fans, it deserves a much better score as an overall video game.

Joe, are you sure you didn't just lose in World Cup mode and felt like taking your frustration out on the game?

Grassy, Joe isn't anti-FIFA, he just likes making controversy. He knows perfectly well that I wouldn't post a review that gave FIFA 2003 5/10, he just wanted to start something.
