i agree about the mars bars Carlos*ie, maybe they should only change the name in england i particularly hate the english having a wank over 1966 everytime the world cup comes around, for example i was reading my mates daily mail yesterday and they decided to rebrand their magazine in a 1966 setting with articles about 1966. go on the bbc site and you will find that the clips are only available from world cup 1966, apparently footballers were **** before this era. honestly they need to come out of this year because living in the past is not a good thing, also i think the 1966 team apart from probably a few (bobby c, m, banks) must be one of the most overrated teams of all time, they probably only won because of home advantage.

You dont mean the ENGLISH, you mean the English media. Anyway thats what you get for reading a right wing comic like the Mail, all gung ho and rule brittania. Believe me mate, plenty of English people are sick and tired of hearing about 1966 as well.
There may have been some home advantage too, as you say, but if you ever bother watch to watch the tournament, you will see that England deserved the trophy. I think everyone has always been aware of the shortcomings of those individual players, but the sum of the parts equalled a very difficult team to beat. West Germany, at the time were a very powerful force in World football. To beat them 4-2 was no mean feat.

Sure its all history now, and should be laid to rest. The trouble is this. Human nature as it is, coupled with patriotism and national pride, tends to wheel these achievements out time and time again until the apperarance of these victories become predictable and a little boring. And if you agree with that, then you must agree that ALL historical achievements should be put to rest and never see the light of day. Anything else would be hypocritical wouldn't it?

So lets never hear again a Liverpool fan celebrate last years Champions League triumph, or indeed the 4 previous times that they won it. Lets never hear again Brazil reminding us how many times they have won the World Cup. Lets never again hear about National heroes such as Ghandi, Mother Theresa and William Wallace. Lets forget about various countries like the USA, India and Scotland gaining their independence. Lets never again celebrate these things, because by your way of thinking, history is irrelevant and meaningless, and there is absolutely no reason whatsoever why we need to drag these old achievements out time and time again.

Nations celebrate their history. Thats the way it is. Its something that will never stop. Its also something that we cannot pretend did not happen. So, I suggest that you try to be a little less narrow minded and realise this one thing. If you do not consider yourself to be English, then any of Englands history has nothing whatsoever to do with you. So why not just mind your own business and just worry about your own country, wherever that may be. If you dont like the way the English are, then go and live somewhere else. Its that simple.

Were you born in England? Were you educated in England? Do you work and make a living in England? If the answer is yes, then it proves that you are just a hypocrite who takes whatever England can give you. And in return you give back nothing not even the respect to allow English people to celebrate English history. Get a life mate please.

CapaJr....thanks man and welcome aboard. Like you ,I just intend to enjoy the whole World Cup and watch every game I can. Of Course I'm behind England, but its also a chance to celebrate the best game in the World too.

Defoe is on the stand by list for the squad. Many people wonder why he never made the squad but Walcott did. Its beyond me too mate. :)

For your sake I hope Turkey make it next time...... (Y)

yes, I apologise mate, I meant the english media, not the english. I was born in India, brought up and educated in Scotland and ridiculed in England. I am proud to be british but also scottish and not english. and NO I don't earn a living here but my parents give back much more to england than what they recieve (most of their earnings and their life). I think you are being a bit harsh here mate, I did not say that England should not celebrate their 1966 win, but the overexaggeration of the whole event every so often is really not good. Even when I was living in Scotland, before the world cup, every publication sought to focus on the exploits on the 1966 team, giving hardly any coverage of the scots. Celebrating one's history is great, but shoving it down the throats of others is different :nape: .

That was stupid and I think you know it. Throughout history, many terrible mistakes have been made by all Nations. Some Nations are still causing misery and death even as we speak. I dont know where you live mate but, I hope you never have to experience your hometown being blown to pieces along with your family and friends.

London was bombed flat during the Second World war. Britain and its allies, did the same to German cities. It was a war but even so, the mentality that dictated those tactics disgust me. I do not harbour any hate towards Germany for that. Man, I wasn't even born. Even when the IRA were blowing up London and indiscriminately killing people, although i disagreed with the methods used, I did actually sympathise with their cause. I do not bear the Irish any makice because of that either.

Over the last year, London has been targeted by the so called " muslim brigades". Once again many innocent people have been killed or maimed for life. I was caught up in one of those explosions and will be scarred for life because of it. Even so, I do not bear any malice towards the perpertrators. As misguided as their actions were/are, I can understand where the hatred is coming from.

I find that its better for me personally to understand why people do things like this. Once I can understand why, then its easier to forgive and FORGET.

i have nothing against english people BUT the hype is always way over the top.

England and the English media in particular, should remember that they haven't been an independent nation since 1707 and when they overdo the hype, particularly on TV, 3 other countries have it rammed down their throats.

In a nutshell, if England win it then ok, if they don't I'll be laughing my head off at the English media.

Are you kidding me? What, some tough guy 15 year old is trying to intimidate me? How dumb are you "CapaJr"? Look at the quote, he says that the English are above the Scottish because they don't harbor grudges from historical conflicts. I was simply pointing out that the English despise the Germans on the field largely because of historical conflict. That's inappropriate? Blow me.

Pede you completely dodged it. I know you don't hate the German people, but you're not going to cheer for Germany EVER in your life. And you will absolutely love it, along with your fellow countrymen, if Germany crashes out early. Brutal invasion and occupation of Scotland vs. Battle of Britain. Seems quite similar to me.

Shifty*eritz....you are a dumbass who understands NOTHING at all .You ask me if i have forgiven the Germans for bombing London and then you say i DODGED the issue????

I thank God that we are NOT educated in the good ol' USA way pal. Who the hell taught you that the English despise the Germans? Obviously you in particular have not been enlightened to the fact that not everyone harbours grudges in this life. For your information, Germany actually have some support and respect from the English. In football terms, they have always been similar to us and believe it or not there is NO animosity towards them from us. Thats not counting the deadbeat English thicko's, people like yourself actually, who still think in terms of hate. You have no idea at all how most Europeans think. You have been locked inside that psuedo democracy of a country all your life and brainwashed with whatever your sick governments want you to believe. I suppose you still hate the Japanese you sad bastard.

You are the stereotypical yank that everybody bases their stereotypical opinions on. You do your race no favours at all .

I'm going to take the unusual step of sticking up for our neighbours, England.

England has NEVER occupied the whole of scotland and the country was
NEVER annexed to England, although they might have got the chance if we hadn't won at Bannockburn in 1314. The two countries became a single kingdom in 1603 when King James the 6th of Scotland took the English throne. Then in 1707 the two parliaments merged into one. Scotland is in fact one of the few countries in the world to Never have been conquered completely. Not by England, the Vikings & not even the Roman Empire could completely over-run Scotland

P.S. Braveheart was mostly made up.

I love this. If I cared about an internet forum in fact I would print this out, frame it, and put it on the wall above my bed; it's THAT hilarious. No, there's no English vs. Germany rivalry, where would I ever come up with something like that?

http://observer.guardian.co.uk/englandfootball/story/0,,541528,00.html

Here's a quote "Germany have inflicted thirty-five years of hurt of English football. But football's greatest rivalry was dominated by England for just as long." Thanks for playing.

I never said you hated the Germans, I said that some historical vindication is felt by England when you beat them, or they fail. 5-1 was EVERYWHERE for like a year! You know exactly what game I'm talking about just based on the score (something I couldn't do for any other game, this score is the most famous score in the world because England was so happy). Some of this has to do with a rivalry that historically has stretched beyond the football field. I didn't just dream this up today and decide I wanted to rewrite history at Soccer Gaming.

And then my absolute favorite part is when you lump me in with everyone else who "still thinks in terms of hate." Yeah, that's me. I'm just about the most laid back, forgiving person on the planet. Then you attribute my attitudes to my pseudo democracy (hey, at least we don't have a monarch!), assuming that I believe everything my government crams down my throat. Again, that's wonderful. Yeah, it just must be this two bit American education. Of course that MUST be it because I'm very likely more educated than you, so in order to even make that argument work at ALL you have to undermine the credibility of my education. Which of course you used stereotypes and blind american hatred (something which you said you despise and accused me of posessing) to try and accomplish. Pede: Tremendous hypocrite. I'm the stereotypical ugly american that causes everyone's stereotypes? Oh really? Who actually posesses these beliefs, YOU!? Hypocrite.

Then you ask if I hate Japan. Uh.... no, are you freakin kidding me? I could care less.

CapaJr, you imbecile, I WAS talking about football. I was saying how an off the field rivalry culminated into an on the field rivalry. And your argument, or better yet ignorant assumption, is completely baseless. EVERY SINGLE POST in this forum has to be about something football related? Yeah, ok sure. Because football NEVER effects things in the real world like politics, economics, and history. And that's completely beside the point since what I said was not just tangentially related to the game of football, but was DIRECTLY RELATED. So Carlos*ie can talk about Scotland not being part of England in parts of the history (not football related), but for some reason if I talk about an off the field rivalry between England and Germany since around the turn of the century and most clearly visible in the Second World War and how that is seen in an intense on the field football rivalry, that is out of bounds?! You're not exactly a college graduate are you? Your associates degree in plumbing doesn't count, sorry. I bet you're a great person in real life, just think before you write.
