So I was right then Shifty*ieritz. You do fail to understand the clearest of points. You might well have had a better education than me, although reading your posts, I very much doubt it mate. That does not make you intelligent, it simply means you have been educated. Two very different things.

"Then you ask if I hate Japan. Uh.... no, are you freakin kidding me? I could care less."
Then why assume that I would care about anything Germany ever did?

"Germany rivalry, where would I ever come up with something like that?"
Then you prove my point by reproducing an article from an English newspaper. You mug. Still dont get my point? Are you implying that the media reflect the opinions of the man on the street? Maybe in your part of the World but not here I'm glad to say.

A Monarch that is a toothless powerless parasite who's days are numbered, beats hands down a meglamaniacal dictator who wants to rule the planet by fear and war.

I do not hve any blind American hatred, thats just your paranoia kicking in mate. I actually said that, YOU are the steroetypical yank that people base their steryotypical opinions on. I never said I was one of those people. Dont you understand anything that is said?

And then you go on to tell CapaJr what an imbecile he is. Contrary to what you might believe about yourself, You are rude and loud. Laid back is not a term i would use to describe you. That and your groundless superior attitude points to one thing. You are a big mouth. Like all big mouths, you too seem to have very little going for you upstairs. If you know what I mean. You dont?.......Well those traits mentioned COULD, just COULD, lead someone who thinks in a stereotypical way, not me of course, to think that you might just be another big mouth American know it all who actually has nothing of interest to say at all.

You're not exactly a college graduate are you? Your associates degree in plumbing doesn't count, sorry.
That is a stereotypical statement from a snob. So the lack of a college degree renders anyone unable to have an opinion does it? Is that what they teach you in the USA? Thats almost a facist statement. Its certainly an ignorant one, and a sure sign that you do not have the intelligence to actually form a lucid argument. When you resort to insults, that is a sure sign you have nothing useful to say.

Just a seperate point there, but the media DOES reflect public opinion. It does because the media are trying to sell. What is going to make more money, agreeing with public opinion or disagreeing? The first one of course. It's a weird system, and sometimes the media isn't all that reliable, witholding certain facts to give off a certain image of someone/thing. A newspaper does generally reflect the opinion of it's readers in order to sell the papers and make a profit. It'd be pointless if they disagreed with public opinion, they simply wouldn't make any money. Of course though, I'm refering to tabloids. Decent papers like The Times, The Telegraph, The Scotsman etc are far better and do give a better impression of the facts.

Not arguing with what your saying though Pede, I just thought that that point may be of some interest to the argument.

I think that the 2 World Wars should not be brought into football, even if they already have. They have been used to fuel the rivalry alot by the media and SOME fans on both sides probably ( Certainly in the English media, not sure about the German media though....they might do the same). The Scottish/English rivalry is different though. The wars of independence are used by us, primarily to wind the English up, as a 'get it up ye, yer massive army couldn't beat an outnumbered and totally shafted army of missfits'. It's also probably alot to do with the resentment us Scots feel towards how some of the English view Scotland and it's not fair that we tar everyone with the same brush. We do take pleasure in seeing you get beaten as it only makes you look foolish after bigging yourselves up so much. To me, and many other Scots, there is nothing more to it.

Some of that is true to be sure Carson, but the media, particularly newspapers, like to think they can also DICTATE public opinion. This they can do sometimes, but here it is, as you say, mainly the tabloids. Plenty of other newspapers sell very well without any slant one way or the other. I know that and you know that. The trouble is though is that those tabloids are always over the top and usually read by cretins who let the likes of the Sun or Mail influence the way they think.

What kills me though is someone who purports to be an intelligent person, forming his opinions about a race of people, from what he gleans from gung ho headlines from an English newspaper on the internet. Talk about stupid.

As you know i was raised in Scotland. I know better than most Englishmen how it is between the Scots and the English. You know i could never ever defend anything that was inflicted on Scotland by England. Man, that was one of the reasons that I grew up so rebellious and unpatriotic towards England. Sure I'm English, and I support the England football team, but thats where it begins and ends. The rest of it can go to f.u.ck mate.

For anyone else thats interested......
For a good insight into the psyche of the typical England fan, go to the England National team thread. In there you will not find any Gung ho " We are the greatest" bulls.h.it. You will not find ANY references to the war or indeed the Germans at all. Or any bellitlement of the Scots either. To base ones opinions of a race of people on a small minority of thicko's ( that includes the tabloids), is ignorant and narrow minded and an "educated " person should know better.

As you get older Callum, you too might develop opinions and wish to air them. That is actually what forums were designed for. I dont expect you to understand yet because you are still a kid. One day, hopefully you might have something interesting to say apart from quick one liners that say nothing. Just because something might be beyond your comprehension, does not mean that there is not a good reason for writing it. OK?

Yup......I'm all for democracy but tabloids with their extreme and shallow politiking ought to be banned forever. Then maybe we might begin to chill out more as nations. Papers like that survive to divide.
I want a newspaper to give me the news. I dont want to hear Murdoch screaming at me from the front page, how I should be thinking.

Well even though I'm only 16, I read the Scotsman if I'm buying a paper. The sport part is well informed with a good review of the lower leagues and Scottish rugby. In the news section, there's always a seperate section for 'comment'. Doesn't really try to influence, same with the other papers. The Sun, Mirror etc are just sh!t but by far the worst has to be the Daily Record. Prints rubish about people, lies and stuff that no one care about. The sport section is dire. Concentrates on the Old Firm, Hearts and Hibs, no other team in the SPL or any where else really. Also, jumped on the bandwagon after Scotland's success in the 6 Nations which I really resent. So basically, don't but The Mirror, The Sun or The Daily Record.

Oh joy, so when I get to be 50 years old, like you claim to be, I get to come online and post all day with a bunch of teenagers? Yay.

I'm not a teenager, Callum.

Snob? Yeah, maybe a little bit. Of course what does something like "Wisconsin... the center of the universe" show me? A little bit of geographical snobbery? Because you live in London you somehow just know a little bit more right?

I'm a big mouth? You've seen me argue on an internet forum and you come to this conclusion. In fact you draw quite a bit of conclusions. All of them are completely false, but I have no desire to prove anything to you anymore. You've clearly formed an opinion about me here that you won't let go, so there's nothing that I could say or do to change it. Any rational person can see that the World Wars, even if they should be left entirely out of the debate, have been used by some people to stir up the rivalry. I don't know why you just assume that you and other English members of this forum are somehow the "average man on the street" when likely you are all wealthier and more educated than the man on the street. Not everbody is rational all the time, and certainly the average man on the street isn't.

Just a friendly reminder, when the topic of racism has been brought up in this forum, you and I were both loud mouthed (you give off the same impression as you say I do), opinionated, and completely correct and on the right side. All of a sudden I say correctly that the World Wars have been used to stir up nationalism ahead of football games and I'm a big mouthed, idiotic, snob and an embarassment to my "race". Whatever. Oh, and this is a little late, but thanks for using punctuation and capitalization and seperate paragraphs now. The all lower case, only use elipses, all in one big text block that you used to do was a real eye sore.

The English media gets annoying with the 1966 stuff, but I don't hate the English. There is a rivalry though but some people take it too far.

I must admit, the 1966 stuff does get a bit tedious after a while and every World Cup is the same with our media - even the most patriotic englishman surely gets a littled pissed off with it all let alone you scots so it is understandable.

As for the rivalry, it is a good thing and helps build a better atmosphere in our games against eachother.
