MANCHESTER UNITED have begun the search for their next manager after Alex Ferguson told the board: "One more season and I'm out."
Fergie will go in the summer of 2011, six months before his 70th birthday.

But Old Trafford sources insist his replacement has yet to be decided.

United are canvassing opinion among leading football figures about who would be the best man for the job and Fergie will also have an input.

Jose Mourinho, currently in charge of Inter Milan, is the favourite.

However, there are those at United who are not convinced that he is the right man.

On the one hand the former Chelsea boss has a proven track record for winning titles and could clinch a second Champions League this season.

However he is seen as a short-term type of boss who is always looking to the next job.

Ferguson has built a dynasty at Old Trafford stretching over 25 years.

The ideal next manager would be a man who could put in another long shift and give the club stability.

Mourinho is just about to complete his second season at Inter but has been making noises about leaving.

He wants to try his luck in Spain because it is his big ambition to win titles in the three major leagues in world football.

And he is driven to show those at Barcelona who nicknamed him "The Interpreter" from his time as Bobby Robson's assistant that he has what it takes to win La Liga.

Ironically Barca boss Pep Guardiola is one of those who will be on United's radar along with the likes of England boss Fabio Capello, Guus Hiddink, Martin O'Neill and Arsene Wenger.

Yeah, I get the feeling that he will succeed SAF. But he has a bad relationship with Rooney....

That doesn't matter, Rooney will be long gone to Madrid by then anyway.

I joke, I joke.

Seriously guys.. I would rather have berbatov than an italian gangsta in my team. Balletolli has got issues.

By the way, that is really a good point in that artice about maureenho. He is a short-term manager always 'job-hopping'. SAF is irreplaceable but that being said I would not mind maureen.

Right now, Balotelli is a stupid kid with tremendous talent and a bad attitude. The difference between the two is that his talent will not disappear, whereas with proper guidance and mentoring his poor attitude can be easily washed away.

I would take the bad attitude any day of the week if it comes with skill...he is young, he will grow out of it...even the wildest horses can be tamed, and if there is one thing that SAF does well, it is mentor young players.

With proper guidance, Balotelli will be one of the best strikers in the world within 5 years.

Berbs quite literally has next to no worth as a footballer for United anymore in my eyes. I want a striker who is a threat to score goals every time he is on the pitch and Dimitar is not that player.

Mourinho is a great manager, whom almost guarantees succes. But Moyes' managing style is almost identical to SAF's. They both have an eye for talent and know how to mold experience and youth into a team. Loyalty is another important aspect. Moyes always gets out of difficult situations, he's has had injuries all season long, but he has coped well with it.....it will be interesting to see who will take over the scepter at OT....another candidate for the job could be Laurent Blanc, he knows our club quite well and I think he could do a good job for us aswell

Ferguson has already said he wants Moyes to replace him and United will not hire a manager who is not from the United Kingdom!

I would be happy if Moyes gets the scepter....

Help?

Apparently, Madrid already made more in Ronaldo shirt sales alone than what they paid for him. Say what you will about Madrid, but at least they got a good business sense.

I'd be happy enough with Moyes. I like his approach of the game. Only problem is that he doesn't have much European experience. He hasn't been tested at a bigger club yet... Maybe it'll be his chance to prove himself on the big stage. If he comes, I see Rodwell coming to us as well :D lol

Another brilliant game in Europe for Arjen Robben today, and another important goal for him.

It is a crime that Bayern got him for only 22 million pounds last summer.

I hope SAF has been watching him this term and realizing what a moron he was for not trying to bring Robben to United.

How many times will you say that? WE GET IT! No need to say that 1000 freaking times! Who would know he would turn out to be that good after a crap spell at Madrid? Fergie or anyone else do not have any super powers to see what's in the future. Super bargain for Bayern.

And if you're gonna call Fergie "moron" time and time again, you can **** off from here. You forget all the past glory to call him moron for a player he hasn't bought? Pay some respect please.

If you think that is bad try picturing how is Florentino Perez feeling? He actually HAD Robben and let him go.

Anyone with half a brain.

I don't know why things that are so blatantly obvious to me aren't obvious to everyone else. Every time I saw Robben play with either Madrid or with Holland I could see what a valuable player he is. He is FAST, both with the ball and without it and he can use that speed to shake a defender. Since he has such a great left foot, he could be utilized on either wing, either sending in crosses from the left or going down the right and cutting in to unleash his wicked shots.

You people all seem to be concerned with what manager comes to United and I just can't understand it. A great player is FIVE TIMES more important than a great manager. You take a player like Messi or Ronaldo and he will be fantastic no matter what manager he plays for. You take a 'great' manager and hand him a bunch of average players and the team will still only be average.

SAF's worth is in his ability to mentor young players...but please stop giving him credit for all the trophies because it was the players that won them.

Dude seriously, you have no idea what you're talking about. By your logic Real Madrid should be winning everything. The manager is who gets the players playing together, for each other, and getting the best out of players. Look at Brian Clough.

Robben is a fantastic player but we all know he's not tough enough for the premiership.
