I can't wait to see the words "Rooney signs for United". Please don't make any jokes that the content says "Newcastle United".

Really. I can't wait.

We don't need any more strikers IMO...We need to concentrate more on our midfield. I Reluctantly have to say that, when Becks was at United our strikers were getting plenty of quality balls being passed to them. Not just from Becks, but from other midfielders too. We lost that last season, and it showed in our scoring performances. Other teams perform just as well, or better with less striking talent. Just look at last year's Monaco or Porto teams.

First of all, congratulations on stating the bloody obvious that has been said by many before you.

Second of all, Monaco had those two guys...I think their names were Giuly and MORIENTES...they were sort of like strikers I think...

SAF knows better than anyone here what he needs.

Would Beckham add to United's goal count? Hell yes. Would van der Vaart? Not to the same amount. Would Rooney? Absolutely!

Giuly is a midfielder...

I don't see where you're going with this.

quit being a **** dude.

beckham assisted van nistelrooy 30 times in one season. why don't you look at some of your match tapes that have united with beckham and you see how many plays go through that right flank + cross. Try 95%+.

no doubt beckham is one of the most important player for us in previous time, with his crossing, i believe no other players in this world can giving such accurate cross like him. but beckham already went real madrid and thats the fact. is it we need to change our tactic so that we not playing under beckham shadow?

with the arrival of ronaldo, saha, smith. those are different players. i still believe the combination of van nistelrooy with beckham are simply great. beckham was departure, ronaldo are different from beckham. he can sprint pass defender in a second, he have pace, he have skills and he just 18. we cannot expect he can cross like beckham but we do see him attract defenders go for him when he get the ball and open space for other players. we can see he did a couple step over and the defend fall on ground like a baby and after a season the major thing we see is he is learning and growing up.

i think is the time to make change on our tactic to suit our new generation team. believe or not we now are no more the team 2 or 3 years ago. look the the average age in our team, may be you can say manchester united have no class player like barthez, veron, beckham few seasons ago. but i belive in the next few years, we have more class and decent young players than any other team have. we have ronaldo, kleberson, bellion, saha, rio, o'shea, miller, djemba, pique, spector, and etc. when they grow up as a class player. imagine how strong manchester united can be.

Yeh its a very promising team for the future.

One major thing i like about having Ronald compared to Beckham is that it is like having another Giggs on the right flank.

At least if we have to play Real in the CL then Roberto carlos will have his work cut out for him.

Eugene, my point went over your head. Monaco and Porto got to the final with what they had. They had teams that were not filled with star players, but they still worked effectively as a unit. Adding another star to our squad just means another 50 thousand pounds a week we spend on just their salary alone. Rooney might be young and talented but he's deffinately not worth 30 mill. The market has become very inflated lately and it is a bad thing. You can have 5 strikers like Ronaldo, but when they are not getting the ball they don't do ****. Look at RVN, he's a quality forward and on his ****ty season he scored 30 goals. Does that show a team that needs another forward?....No it shows a team that needs to become stronger in other parts of the game. Namely defense. We have people that can put the ball in the back of the net, now we need people who can serve the ball to the forwards constantly. Oh yea, and just because your identity is hidden behind a computer, that doesn't give you a right to be a d!ck to someone for no reason.

ngyc, you just said what i want to say. :D
"...and after a season the major thing we see is he is learning and growing up."
this is so true. Cant imagine how great Ronaldo will be when he keeps on learning and growing up. how great he will be when he improves the timing for his passing. Great player to United's future. (H)

Ferguson excited by Rooney

Sir Alex Ferguson insists Manchester United would be as good as his Treble winning side of 1999 if they can clinch the signing of Wayne Rooney.
"If we do sign him I will be very happy with the squad we have got," he said.

"I believe it will be just as strong as we had in 1999. Both squads have really good talent, although it is difficult to compare players.

"But what I will have again is four top strikers to chose from. It will give us strength and a lot of options."

United claimed a famous last-gasp victory in the final of the 1999 Champions League when they scored two late goals to break Bayern Munich hearts.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Teddy Sheringham scored on the night with Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke making up the rest of United's striking quartet during a campaign which also saw them claim the Premiership title and FA Cup.

If Rooney does sign for United from Everton he will join Ruud van Nistelrooy, Louis Saha and Alan Smith at Old Trafford.

And ex-United midfielder David Beckham believes his England team-mate Rooney should choose United ahead of Newcastle who are battling the Old Trafford outfit for the 18-year-old's signature.

Beckham, now at Real Madrid, says Ferguson would give Rooney the guidance he needs while Magpies boss Bobby Robson would also help the teenager's career.

He said: "You have two great managers who can look after any player.

"They don't come any better than the two managers who are at those teams, so he'll be in good hands wherever he goes.

"(Alex Ferguson) brought me into the team and gave me the chance when others wouldn't have done so, when he just put all the youngsters in and had faith in us.

"We think we helped the club win trophies and without Alex Ferguson's guidance, we wouldn't have grown up as we have done."

He added: "I think when players go through a tough time, he is very strong and believes that players at his team are looked after by the manager.

"When you have played badly, he will criticise you to your face, but never to the media, that is what he is like. "

United's squad has been depleted because of injuries, players away on international duty and Rio Ferdinand still serving a suspension for missing a drugs test.

But Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says United will be a bigger danger the Highbury club's title ambitions if rival Ferguson lands Rooney and key players return to the side.

"If United get Rio Ferdinand back, Rooney in, Gabriel Heinze back, suddely they look a lot stronger on paper.

"But I am not worried about United trying to sign Rooney.

"I do not expect my opponents to sit relaxing, looking at us cruise through the league."

Rooney war nears endgame

Manchester United and Newcastle have until 1200 BST on Tuesday to secure a deal with Everton over Wayne Rooney.
Everton, who play at Old Trafford in a lunchtime game on Monday, are sitting on a reputed £25m offer from the former Premiership champions.

United chief executive David Gill is expected to continue talks with Everton chairman Bill Kenwright on Monday.

But Newcastle are said to be preparing a bigger bid than the £23.5m that was rejected by Everton last week.

The clubs have until the transfer deadline at 1200 BST on Tuesday to seal Rooney's signature, which means any negotiations would realistically have to be concluded on Monday.

Rooney has made it clear he wants to leave Goodison Park
