I don't think LA should change anything. Maybe their logo, but their uniforms were some of the best in MLS. Colorado should just go back to being green, but keep their current logo. The Wizards and Crew I think are OK, except they could improve their logos. As far as team names go, the really bad ones are now gone (Clash, Earthquakes, Burn, Wiz, Fusion, Mutiny).

What's funny is last year MLS had the "Embrace the Colors" ads with Landon Donovan (LA) and Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado) wearing green-and-gold/blue-and-black face paint, and now both of those teams will be getting new colors.

I agree, why would they change their colours? It's actually the 1 unique jersey in the MLS (with Real Salt lake <lol , always laugh when i hear that name>)

well, I did say some teams needed work "to varying degrees", I agree the LA kit is argueably the best in MLS, but that logo is awful. Reminds me of the corny logos you see in like Arena football or something..

Houston Dynamo doesnt sound half as bad as: Red Bull new york or Real Salt Lake + their design is class. (good logo. + fan base too)

Real Salt Lake's logo is gross, much like the name. Might as well make a Freddy Adu facial caricature for the team logo.

RSL will stay in Utah :)

here are some renderings of their future stadium:

At 3pm the Rapids are holding a news conference probably to announce their new name/colors etc...

mlsnet.com says that they will "announce an international soccer partnership," it's pretty clear to me that they will announce a partnership with Arsenal and their name will be Colorado Arsenal FC or some combination of that. Shame...

well, if the name change does actually have to do with a partnership then it might be a bit easier to swallow than just biting a name off a famous club..

still though.. (:/)

THEY KEPT THEIR NAME!!

just the logo and the colors changed, great decision (Y)

btw, that is definitely an improvement over what they had but I'm wondering how their kits will look in those colors (yucky...)

edit: i just saw the kits in the press conference although the quality wasn't too great. one is all white (what a boring trend) with colorado written across the chest and the other is that burgundy color with rapids written across the chest. there is no hint of the baby blue anywhere on the kits. i hope they get a shirt sponsor too cause' they look cheesy with the team names on them. very simple design though from what i could tell.

Their kits are actually pretty nice when you look at them in better definition (www.coloradorapids.com). The one that I thought was white is actually a baby blue/grayish color. The other one just looks like a kit that Aston Villa or West Ham would have.

From what I have been told this is why they didnt change their name. Apparently the Rapids orchestrated this deal with Arsenal and thought they were all clear to change their name when Nike, which sponsors Arsenal, stepped in and said 'No way, Jose'. Nike claims it owns rights to Arsenal's name and logo and will not let a team from MLS, which is sponsored by Adidas, have them. So either the Rapids will be stuck as the Rapids (which they should be) or Colorado and/or Adidas is going to have to pay up for use of the name.

Is there any serious source for this or is this some bulls*it that a BigSoccer idiot pulled out of his ass

If it's serious than it is sad that it took something like that to keep the name...

I'd also highly doubt that Nike owns the rights to Arsenal's badge. I'm pretty sure that Arsenal would own those, and license them to Nike.

Confirmation that that story about Nike is bullshit:

Initial reports surfaced that the team planned to change its name to Arsenal Colorado. The Rapids trademarked both Arsenal Colorado and Colorado Arsenal.

Major League Soccer requires 18 months notice before allowing a team to change their name, but a fee can be paid to expedite the process.

However, additional legal barriers were encountered by the club which could not be overcome and it was these impediments which caused the Rapids to no longer pursue the name change. There are no plans at this point to change the name in the future.
